Chapter 14

Chapter 14

August 15th is the Mid-Autumn Festival, a day for enjoying lanterns and the moon, but unexpectedly it happened to be hit by a sudden and severe rainstorm.

Deafening thunder roared one after another, and suddenly, a strong white light flashed from the sky, detaching the entire general's mansion from the darkness.

The light was unstoppable, like a sharp arrow piercing through the thin and tough window paper, and quickly passed by the man in black sitting at the head of the bed, with a face like that of an Asura.

"It's just a superficial wound, it'll take a little longer to recover. The worst part is that the mulberry seeds splashed into his eyes." Who could be so vicious? He'll be punished by God sooner or later. Doctor Liu sighed, "Master Xin's eyes are..."

He paused, as if feeling uneasy, and found a slightly more euphemistic way to put it. "In the future, during winter and summer, you may experience an unbearable burning sensation. Remember not to scratch or shed tears."

Lu Shenxing listened in silence. He was at home on sick leave and did not go to the palace to attend the banquet. His mood was complicated and inexplicable.

The bloody clothes beside the bed still gave off a fishy smell. Xin Liang's body was covered with many crisscrossing whip marks, overlapping and stained with blood. His entire back was covered with skin and flesh, and his chest was bloody and blurred, but a very deep brand could be discerned.

"What a good child..." Doctor Liu applied ointment to the wound bit by bit, and couldn't help sighing, "What a damn thing..."

Listening to Doctor Liu's chatter, Lu Shenxing glanced down, a dark cold light flashed across his eyes, and he was calculating something.

Xin Liang didn't cry out from beginning to end. Even when the pain was severe, he just frowned, his shoulders trembled slightly, and blood seeped from his tightly pursed lips.

"Mr. Xin, if it hurts, scream." Doctor Liu removed the bloody cloth, "so I can control the severity of the pain."

Xin Liang opened his mouth, his voice hoarse, "It's over."

After the pain, you will become numb.

Lu Shenxing's eyes were filled with tears, and he looked up. Even if that damn Dayang was destroyed, it had nothing to do with him. But when he saw Xin Liang covered in injuries and the first thing he said after waking up was to ask if he was okay, he felt very uncomfortable.

He is not a young and naive boy. He has had serious relationships and even talked about marriage, so he knows clearly how he feels.

It's not pity, it's heartache.

There is a world of difference between these two words, which makes Lu Shenxing unconsciously resist, escape and deny.

The smell in his nostrils was a mixture of medicine and blood. A thunderclap exploded in his ears, and all of Lu Shenxing's thoughts rushed back to their original place in an instant. He despised himself and thought, "What's the point of worrying about this? I'm just a big idiot."

Lu Shenxing accidentally said what he was thinking.

Doctor Liu wanted to find something to break the heavy atmosphere, so he asked, "What is a big idiot?"

"...handsome, elegant, and suave." Lu Shenxing remained calm.

"The general is indeed a complete idiot." Doctor Liu nodded in agreement, then asked another person present, "Master Xin, don't you agree?"

Lu Shenxing looked away and rolled his eyes.

Fine beads of sweat rolled down Xin Liang's pale face. Hearing this, he wanted to find Lu Shenxing's direction and moved his neck with effort, but it was in vain.

Catching his movement, Lu Shen walked over and stood next to Xin Liang, "I'm here."

Only then did Xin Liang calm down.

"Master Xin, please stop shaking. It's not easy to apply the medicine like this."

Seeing Doctor Liu putting his head close to Xin Liang's legs, Lu Shenxing looked so obscene. He rolled up his sleeves and said in a deep voice, "I'll do it."

After he finished speaking, he snatched the ointment from Doctor Liu's hand, picked out a piece and smeared it on Xin Liang's leg.

The place that was touched felt cold, but Xin Liang didn't even groan despite the pain. His embarrassed body trembled slightly, "Let... let Doctor Liu..."

When Doctor Liu saw that the wound was about to split, he rushed over.

"Don't move!" Lu Shenxing grabbed Xin Liang's ankle, his temples throbbing. "Doctor Liu, please move aside. I have to take care of this."

He really wanted to ask why. Doctor Liu noticed that the tip of Xin Liang's ears was red. He touched his nose and knew something he shouldn't know. Since he already knew it, he might as well pretend that he didn't know.

Not knowing where Lu Shenxing touched, Xin Liang's back arched and he took a deep breath.

Doctor Liu, standing nearby, picked up the paper and blew away the wet ink. "General, everyone has their sensitive spots."

Lu Shenxing raised his arm to wipe the sweat that dripped into his eyes, glanced at Xin Liang, then looked at the place he had just touched, and spread the ointment evenly with his fingertips. He couldn't help but hear Xin Liang's gasp again.

After treating all the wounds, big and small, all over Xin Liang's body and wrapping him up like a big dumpling, Lu Shenxing was sweating profusely from exhaustion.

"This is for scar removal." Doctor Liu handed over the prescription. "Soak once every two weeks, but don't use boiling hot water."

"He can't even get into the boiling water." Lu Shenxing interjected, "It's not like shaving a pig."

Doctor Liu coughed and said, "General, please follow me."

Lu Shenxing raised his eyebrows and followed him behind the screen. "Tell me, what's the matter?"

Doctor Liu coughed twice before saying, "Mr. Xin has a weak constitution. He might not be able to handle such intense action. General, please take it easy."

"..." Lu Shenxing muttered, his tone unclear but with a hint of gnashing teeth. "Do I look like someone with a homosexual fetish?"

Doctor Liu looked at her with an expression that said, "You kid can really pretend." "Isn't it?"

Lu Shenxing's face darkened. He turned and shouted towards the door, "Old Wu, send Doctor Liu back!"

As the two passed each other, Doctor Liu handed over a small bottle and said in a low voice, "Use it sparingly."

Lu Shenxing took it and put it in his arms. By the time he reacted, Doctor Liu had already walked out the door and got on the carriage.

Returning to the bedside, Lu Shenxing spread medicine on the cloth strip and stared at Xin Liang's eyes. They clearly had beautiful lines and shapes, but they were lifeless and dull.

After a long time, he covered it with a piece of cloth.

Xin Liang tilted his neck and asked, "Dr. Liu is gone?"

"Um."

Lu Shenxing touched Xin Liang’s drooping hair and said, “I will avenge you.”

A warm current gathered in his heart and then flooded to his hands and feet. Xin Liang lowered his head, buried it in the pillow, and the corners of his lips curved up.

What surprised Lu Shenxing was that although Xin Liang was seriously injured, he did not feel any despair or pain. Instead, his world became brighter.

In the second half of the night, a strong wind blew, the sky was torn, the windows were clanging, the candlesticks in the room shook, and the candlelight flickered wildly, and finally went out with a snap.

Lu Shenxing groped his way up, but before he reached Xin Liang, there was a loud knock on the door.

The old butler at the door had tears in his eyes, and Lu Shenxing had already guessed it.

Lu Shenxing didn't bother to put on shoes and socks, and rushed into the rain barefoot, then quickly ran into the west room. He wiped the rain off his face, his wet underwear sticking to his limbs, and he shivered suddenly.

The woman on the bed lay quietly, her hands hanging at her sides, her face peaceful, her chest calm.

Lu Shenxing tucked a strand of the woman's scattered white hair behind her ear and smoothed out the wrinkles on her collar.

After doing all this, Lu Shenxing took two steps back. A maid behind him suddenly burst into tears, bringing the grief of death to everyone's attention.

The old butler knelt down, his thin, sunken face full of tears, "General, the old lady is gone——"

After him, the room was filled with people kneeling. Some were sad that the person they had served for all these years had suddenly passed away, while others were crying to vent their worries about their future.

Lu Shenxing buried Wang in Hubao Mountain, her hometown. From her memories of Changzhou, he knew that she missed that place very much.

Fallen leaves return to their roots and finally find rest.

A few days later, the sky cleared up and Lu Shenxing received a secret order from the emperor. Ku Hai was afraid of unusual movements, so he ordered him to set off and return to Xilang City that day.

Xin Hongyuan, who had never asked a single question since Xin Liang's accident, got the news from somewhere and came unexpectedly, saying goodbye to his son and bringing Xin Xiaoran with him.

"General Chang, I...I..." Xin Xiaoran blushed and whispered, "I want to go to West Wolf City. Can you take me with you?"

She originally thought that this man was rough and ugly, but when she met him, she found that he was strong and tall, and spoke in a calm and composed manner, which was completely different from what she had imagined.

After just one glance, she was attracted to him.

Lu Shenxing glanced around inquiringly and understood.

"Miss Xin, the place is covered in yellow sand, it's dry all year round, and there are many snakes, insects, rats and ants. It's not a place you can live in."

Xin Xiaoran immediately said, "I can adapt."

Lu Shenxing reached out and rubbed his forehead. They were both members of the Xin family, but how come Xin Xiaoran wasn't even half as smart as Xin Liang?

I don't like those who are too thin, I don't like oval faces, and I don't like big eyes. He thought of them one by one and rejected them one by one, and directly chose the one that would eliminate the problem forever.

"I don't like women."

As expected, Xin Xiaoran's face changed drastically. She staggered away and cried alone for a while. After calming down, she went to find Xin Liang.

"Second brother, General Chang said he doesn't like women."

Xin Liang's body shook, and the wounds were pulled, and he frowned in pain.

"He must have said that on purpose. Second brother, please help me." Xin Xiaoran grabbed Xin Liang's hand, as if he couldn't see his injury. "You've always been by the general's side. If you ask, he'll agree. As long as I go to West Wolf City, there will be no shortage of opportunities."

Tapping the edge of the bed with his fingers, Xin Liang pursed his lips and said, "Go tell Dad and ask him to find another family for you."

"Why?" Xin Xiaoran's eyes widened in disbelief. "Second brother, why don't you want to help me?"

Xin Liang said calmly, but with a cold warning, "Because he is mine."
