Chapter 341. Su Lu Arrives Home

Su Yun's eyes lit up with delight. "Delicious!"

Qin Xiaoxiao chuckled and playfully pinched her nose, "Just like Su Yu, both are foodies."

Su Yun glared at Qin Xiaoxiao with dissatisfaction, grabbed another piece of cake, and ran out of the house.

Qin Xiaoxiao pouted, "When there's something delicious to eat, you only think about your husband and don't even think about giving your best friend a piece."

Grandma Qin patted her arm with a smile, "Your own cooking is still lacking this. Isn't it for them to eat that you brought it here?"

As she spoke, she pinched a piece and put it in her mouth, saying, "It's too sweet; only you young girls like to eat this."

He handed a piece to Qin Yue and then gave one to Ma Dahua, saying, "Try it too, it's delicious. Don't be stingy with your food and only think about others."

Ma Dahua took the cake and laughed, "Your son is someone else, but if he can't have it, you'll be more anxious than anyone else."

Grandma Qin patted Ma Dahua with a smile again, "You're so good with words. I've been thinking about you too, why didn't you say so?"

Ma Dahua turned around and said shyly, "I know my mother cares about me, even more than my own mother."

Meeting her mother-in-law in this lifetime is something she must have earned through ten lifetimes of good deeds. If she had to choose between her husband and her mother-in-law, she would probably choose her mother-in-law.

Sigh, I wonder if my husband will be heartbroken if he finds out?

Grandma Qin smiled and squinted her eyes, "Keep the rest. When the eldest son comes back, give him a piece. You can eat the rest slowly."

Ma Dahua smiled and pushed the cake in front of Old Mrs. Qin, "Mom, you should keep it. I don't really like sweets. You can keep it and Dad to enjoy slowly."

Old Mrs. Qin put on a stern face, "Just take it. After all these years as a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, I know you well enough. When you first came in, you were always staring at the sugar jar in the kitchen. Your eyes were glued to it."

Ma Dahua turned away embarrassedly, "Mom, how could you say that in front of the children? It's so embarrassing!"

After saying that, Ma Dahua quickly ran out, without taking the cake, obviously wanting to save it for Grandma Qin.

Qin Xiaoxiao looked around and then glanced down at the cake on the kang (a heated brick bed).

Sigh! It's all because of poverty. The Qin family is relatively well-off, and they are so humble and apologetic when making a cake. If it were another family, they probably wouldn't even be willing to eat a piece of this cake if it were left to the long-haired people. The whole family would have to cut it into pieces and divide it up, and only the children could eat a piece or two. The adults would be reluctant to eat any.

In the end, the cake was kept by Grandma Qin. Qin Xiaoxiao specifically emphasized that it shouldn't be left for too long, otherwise it would spoil. Also, the cake was sweet and would attract mice and insects. She didn't want it to end up in the mice's bellies because no one wanted to eat it.

Upon hearing this, Old Mrs. Qin quickly took out more money, giving five yuan to Su Yun, five yuan to Ma Dahua, and finally two yuan to Qin Yue.

Qin Xiaoxiao didn't mind that she didn't get any; she knew how to cook anyway, and she could just make more whenever she wanted.

The honey and walnuts given to the Qin family were also put away by Old Mrs. Qin. The walnuts definitely need to be dried some more, but not much. Qin Ye will go up the mountain to collect some more in a few days and eat them in winter.

For dinner, we had steamed rice cakes made by Ma Dahua. They were quite sweet because they contained saccharin, and the cornmeal was finely ground. This time, Qin Xiao ate three whole pieces before she was satisfied and left the table. Before leaving, she asked Ma Dahua to pack a few more pieces for Su Lu to eat that night.

When Su Lu returned home that evening, Qin Yue didn't go home with Qin Xiaoxiao. After arriving home, she boiled three or four pots of water and stored them in her spatial dimension. Then she kneaded dough and continued making dumplings and wontons.

Wontons are convenient to eat, and they're served hot with the broth, making them the perfect choice for breakfast in winter.

Qin Xiaoxiao used a soymilk maker in her space to make a large bowl of fresh soymilk, intending to drink it slowly. There wasn't much soymilk powder left in her space, so she had to save some so that she wouldn't miss out on it when she was too lazy to cook.

Seeing that there was still time, Qin Xiaoxiao made some yogurt with milk, but she couldn't drink it for the time being and would have to wait until tomorrow.

After leaving the space and tidying up the house, it was 11 p.m. when noises came from inside and outside the yard.

Qin Xiaoxiao was startled. She took out a stun gun from her spatial storage and stood behind the door without making a sound.

Soon there was a knock on the door. The sound wasn't loud, but it could be heard clearly in the night.

Qin Xiaoxiao didn't answer. She waited a while longer, and when the door was knocked on again, she whispered, "Who is it?"

Su Lu's voice rang out from outside the door, "Wife, it's me back. Open the door."

Qin Xiaoxiao felt relieved when she heard that Su Lu had returned. She put the stun gun into her spatial storage and got up to open the door.

Upon opening the door and seeing that it was Su Lu, Qin Xiaoxiao rushed over, "Why are you only coming back now? It's so late."

Su Lu hugged Qin Xiaoxiao and kissed her. "This is still early. When I came back, the convoy hadn't dispersed yet. They needed to get some goods, so I came back first."

Su Lu threw the large bag on the ground, carried Qin Xiaoxiao through the gate, kicked the gate shut with his foot, locked the gate with one hand, and then carried Qin Xiaoxiao into the house.

He put Qin Xiaoxiao on the kang (a heated brick bed) and kissed her lips again. "Did you miss me?"

Qin Xiaoxiao nodded and clung to him, refusing to get up. "Thinking about it, it feels like two years have passed since you left two days ago."

Hearing this, Su Lu felt a surge of relief. He hugged Qin Xiaoxiao and kissed her hard on the lips. "I miss you too. My heart aches with longing. Wife, I don't want to work anymore. I want to stay with you and never leave you."

These past two days have felt like two years to Qin Xiaoxiao, and even more so to him.

To be honest, he regretted it the moment he stepped out the door, or rather, he regretted it from the day he started working. Wouldn't it have been better to stay home with his wife and live a peaceful life? Why did he have to make such a fuss?

He was quite proud of the money he had earned before; not to mention the village, there were few people in the whole county who were richer than him. But when he thought about the money his wife had, he felt ashamed.

He even considered living off his wife, but he also wanted to give her a better life so she could live a carefree life.

Therefore, no matter how reluctant he was to leave his wife, he had to go out and earn money so that his wife could spend the extra money he earned.

Thinking of his wife's squinting fox-like eyes and greedy little gaze when she counted money, Su Lu suddenly felt less tired and made up his mind to earn more money for his wife.

The two embraced and whispered their longing for each other after their separation; anyone who didn't know better would think they had actually been apart for two years.

After talking for a full half hour, Qin Xiaoxiao finally got up from Su Lu. "Honey, you must be exhausted. Go wash your hands. I got you some steamed cake from the Qin family. It's delicious. I'll make some soup too. There are some pickled vegetables in my space. Just make do with these for now. Tomorrow morning we'll have dumplings or wontons."

Su Lu stretched and said, "Okay, you can do whatever you want. Oh, wait a minute, I'll get you something."

After saying that, Su Lu ran into the yard, picked up the bag that was thrown on the ground, brought it into the house, put it on the kang (a heated brick bed), unzipped it, and started taking things out one by one.

After taking everything out, Su Lu pulled open the seam at the bottom of the bag, opened the lining, and took out a bunch of ten-yuan notes.
