The little gray wolf meets the little white rabbit

The little gray wolf meets the little white rabbit

Jiyuan Road No.1 Primary School.

The school bell had rung, but strangely, the teacher hadn't arrived yet. Fu Jia and a few other children were playing cards on the ground in front of the teacher's desk, making a lot of noise in the classroom.

"I won, this one is mine." A handsome young boy with rosy lips and white teeth unilaterally declared his victory and took the opponent's face card.

"No way! Fu Jia, you cheated! Give me back my flower cards!" Another skinny, dark-skinned child shouted in protest.

"I cheated? Did you see me cheat?" Fu Jia raised her head, glanced around at her friends, her eyes bright and sparkling. The people around hesitated for a moment, then shook their heads. Fu Jia was very satisfied with this result. She tilted her head, slightly raised her chin, and looked disdainfully at the child opposite her who was glaring at her: "Did you hear that?"

Another child nearby, eager to try, shoved aside the skinny, dark-skinned boy who looked like a defeated rooster: "It's my turn! It's my turn! Monkey, if you're not playing anymore, hurry up and get off!"

The boy called "monkey" was still unwilling to give up and tried to snatch it. Fu Jia, however, seemed to have discovered something new, pointing curiously to the classroom door: "Huh? Who's that?"

While everyone's attention was drawn to the door, the handsome boy quietly slipped the flower card into his pocket. Then he led the group toward the door. Fu Jia would never know how much sweet torment this action, done just to obtain such a small flower card, would bring him for the next ten years, or even longer.

And there really was a little girl standing at the door, or rather, a pretty little girl. She wore a floral dress, white socks, and black leather shoes, her hair carefully tied into two little pigtails. Her chubby, white face and large, dark, grape-like eyes looked timidly at the many people watching her. Up close, she was truly a delicate, exquisitely beautiful little doll.

"Who are you?" Fu Jia was closest to her and asked first.

The little girl thought for a long time, but still couldn't figure out how to introduce herself. "I-don't know-"

"Which class are you in?" Fu Jia asked impatiently, her reaction was really slow.

"I...I don't know either." The little girl said timidly. Her mother had spent a long time getting ready early this morning and brought her here to find a strange aunt. The aunt told her to go in first and said that her mother would come back to pick her up later, and then the two of them left. But when she saw that the room was full of unfamiliar children, she was frightened and didn't know what to do, and didn't dare to step in rashly.

"You don't even know which class you're in? Are you stupid?" Fu Jia stared at her suspiciously.

A group of children nearby were also quite interested in this silly-looking little girl. After observing her for a long time, they all agreed: "Yeah, she must be silly."

"Yes, look at her, she doesn't know anything."

"Looks a bit clumsy, huh?"

The little girl blushed and shook her head repeatedly: "I'm not—I'm not stupid."

"You are, little fool." Fu Jia finally came to a conclusion beside her, as certain as experts announcing the results of years of research. After saying that, she tugged at the hair flower on her braid and said to the person next to her, "Look, the little fool even has a strawberry on her head."

"Ugh, don't—don't pull my hair!" The girl whose braid was being pulled immediately covered her head, trying to stop the scoundrel from pulling.

The other little boys also came over to get a better look, and some even touched and tugged at the objects.

"You guys say strawberries can grow on her hair, does that mean she has strawberry seeds in her head?" Fu Jia asked curiously while tugging at her braid.

Another child glanced at it and scoffed, "How can you be so stupid? That's a hair tie for girls. Doesn't our class monitor, Jiang Linlin, have one in her hair?"

Fu Jia, who was being rebuked, had no idea what the girls in her class had tied in their hair. She was a little embarrassed and angry: "Her hair is different from Jiang Linlin's! Jiang Linlin's hair is tied up, but this little fool's hair just grew on its own!" In her anxiety, she pulled hard on her braid.

The little girl burst into tears as the hand was pulled. Those nearby, seeing Fu Jia's anger, didn't dare say anything more. Children are often bullies who prey on the weak, and Fu Jia was a notorious bully in the class; they generally didn't dare offend him. Even the child who had complained about him smiled sheepishly, scratching his head: "It seems so, I didn't notice just now."

Seeing the little girl under his command crying, Fu Jia was quite annoyed: Why is she so fragile? So he said stiffly, "I won't pull your pigtails anymore, so stop crying."

The little girl ignored him, covering her eyes and crying bitterly, sobbing, "You—you're bullying me, I'm going to tell my mom."

A group of boys were struggling to deal with the little girl who wouldn't stop crying when suddenly someone shouted, "The teacher is coming!"

A group of boys scattered in fright and ran into the classroom. Fu Jia saw the teacher walking this way with another woman, and in a panic, she quickly pulled her into the classroom. She dragged her to her seat and threatened, "Don't cry anymore, or I'll pull out all your hair."

The little girl finally lowered her arm, her eyes red from crying, and looked at Fu Jia. She bit her lip, afraid to cry any longer. Fu Jia looked at her own hands, which were dirty and looked like chicken claws, and bent down to wipe away the little girl's tears with the cuff of her sleeve: "Don't talk nonsense when the teacher comes, understand?"

The little girl nodded, seemingly understanding but not quite.

Just then, the teacher and a woman entered the classroom. The teacher glanced around the class and saw the newly enrolled little girl sitting in Fu Jia's seat, while Fu Jia stood to the side, occasionally leaning down to talk to the little girl. The teacher smiled with satisfaction: "Hey, Fu Jia, you're very gentlemanly today! Giving up your seat for a new classmate, not bad, worthy of praise."

Fu Jia straightened up and replied to the teacher with a smile, "The teacher said we should be friendly and united with our classmates, so it's only right that I do this." Although he didn't quite understand what gentlemanly manners were, he was always adept at pleasing adults.

The teacher was very pleased. She felt proud to have raised such a polite and obedient student in front of the parents. So, she smiled and said to the woman behind her, "This is Fu Jia from our class. She's very smart. She seems to get along well with Xia Tong. Let them sit together, shall we?"

The woman behind him nodded in relief.

The teacher came down and patted Fu Jia's head, then held the little girl's hand and said to everyone, "This is Xia Tong, our new classmate. She's a little younger than everyone else. I hope the other students in the class will take good care of Xia Tong, both in her studies and in her daily life. Do you understand?"

"We heard it!" the students in the class said in unison, drawing out their voices.

"Fu Jia, you did very well today. Keep it up, okay? From now on, Xia Tong will sit next to you. Li Yue, tidy up your desk and come sit with me in the front. You were the one who broke the flowerpot by the classroom door yesterday, weren't you? Now sit in the front and see if you dare to be naughty again!" The teacher first praised Fu Jia, and then moved his deskmate to the first row.

The woman walked over, squatted down, and said to Xia Tong, "Tongtong, listen to Teacher Li here, and Mom will come to pick you up after school, okay?"

"Mom, don't go, I don't want to be left here alone..." Xia Tong said, tears welling up in her eyes.

"Don't be afraid, it's the same as kindergarten. Mommy will be back to pick you up soon." Looking at Xia Tong's grimacing face, Xia's mother felt a pang of sadness. Tongtong was still so young. After finishing kindergarten, she had originally planned to send her to preschool, but after going through so many connections, she could only get her into first grade. How could she, as a mother, bear to leave such a young child in a strange and frightening environment?

At this moment, Fu Jia, who was standing to the side, showed a well-behaved smile: "Auntie, don't worry, I will definitely take good care of Xia Tong."

Turning her head, Xia's mother saw the beautiful, delicate-looking child beside her speaking with such conviction, and felt a little relieved: This step had to be taken eventually; even a young child needs to go to school. "Thank you, little friend. Your name is Fu Jia, right?"

"Yes, the 'fu' in musical note, and the 'jia' in Luojia Mountain."
