Chapter 231 Departure

Outside Zhong Linfang's ward, Huang Baohua sat on the ground, slapping her thigh and crying.

All sorts of vulgar and obscene language kept stabbing into Zhong Linfang's mind inside the room.

Zhong Linfang clung to Lü Jingzhi in fear, trembling.

Liu Siqing blocked the doorway and was about to drag Huang Baohua away when Huang Baohua immediately shouted that she had been sexually assaulted.

This made him blush with embarrassment, his eyes blazing with fury, yet he was powerless to do anything about it.

Upon receiving the news, Su Qingci rushed over and was about to tie up Huang Baohua on charges of gathering a crowd to cause trouble and disrupt social order.

Xie Qunfu, however, rushed over with several commune members and shielded the person behind him, apologizing and making amends.

They said Huang Baohua was also traumatized by her daughter and son-in-law's situation.

Are the people not allowed to express their grievances?

The Zhong family, grandfather and grandson, are all fine, aren't they? How can they arbitrarily arrest people just because they uttered a few words of abuse?

Su Qingci harbored many grievances, all of which were constrained by the newly established rules and regulations from above.

She felt incredibly guilty and had nowhere to vent her anger. She even thought about secretly setting fire to the Xie family's house that night.

In the darkness of night, Zhong Linfang looked out the window.

"Grandma, I don't like Liu Siqing. Please don't put me together with him anymore."

“I went on a blind date with Mr. Bai when I was 19. All my girlish feelings and all my hopes for the future were for him.”

"How can you just sever or replace such feelings that have been built up over time?"

"Grandma, you understand me, and I understand you. Please don't do anything foolish!"

"Grandma, let's go, let's leave Peach Blossom Town, okay? Let's go somewhere else, somewhere where nobody knows us!"

Zhong Linfang was a sensitive girl, and she sensed something from her grandmother's words, which sounded like her last words.

Grandma said Liu Siqing was a good person, someone she could entrust her life to, and that she would help her resolve all of this.

Liu Siqing is a good person, but she may not be able to enter into a new relationship again in just a few short years.

The environment here, everything here, frightened her, especially her grandmother's words.

Lu Jingzhi's lips trembled, as if he wanted to say something but couldn't.

"Grandma, would you like to visit the place where you studied when you were young?"

"Would you like to walk the same path you walked with Grandpa Wen again?"

"You made a promise with Grandpa Wen to visit the grasslands. You'll regret it if you don't go."

"Grandma, you're all I have left."

After daybreak, Lü Jingzhi went to the security checkpoint to find Su Qingci.

As soon as Lü Jingzhi opened the door, he inquired about the new security regulations that had been issued from above.

Su Qingci looked at her with a puzzled expression. Her face was calm, as if the previous hostility had been wiped away overnight.

Lu Jingzhi did not hide it from Su Qingci.

“Actually, before last night, my idea was to drag Huang Baohua’s family down to hell with me.”

"I think the lessons learned from bloodshed will always silence those unpleasant words from the outside world."

"I don't need their apologies, I just want them dead."

"However, Linfang rejected the arrangements I made for her. She wanted a different kind of life, and I didn't want to leave with a lifetime of regret."

“I want to take Linfang out for a walk. A new environment and time will heal all of this.”

"So I need your help, and of course, I won't let Huang Baohua's family go either."

How do you want me to help you?

"I need a letter of introduction to prove I can leave the country, and I also need money."

"Don't worry, I'm not asking you for money."

You probably don't know my background.

“My family used to be a large merchant family in Lanzhou. They even donated airplanes to the country during the war. My dowry was very generous when I got married.”

"This is what I planned to leave for Linfang as her dowry, and it's the only thing I've kept."

"I think you probably have more channels than I do."

Su Qingci picked up the two large gold ingots handed over by Lü Jingzhi and looked at them. They were engraved with "Great Qing Gold Ingots" in traditional Chinese characters.

Each one weighs ten taels.

The two of them talked for a while in the office, avoiding other people, discussing the new laws.

An hour later, Lü Jingzhi returned home with light steps.

That afternoon, Lü Jingzhi arrived at Xie Dapeng's house in tears, and in front of a crowd of onlookers, she rammed her head against the stone wall of Xie's gate.

Lu Jingzhi suffered a head injury and was bleeding profusely, his life hanging in the balance. He was rushed to the health center.

Huang Baohua, Xie Dapeng, Xie Hongjun, and Xie Yunping, a family of four, were detained on the same day.

Furthermore, he was handed over to the county authorities on a series of charges, including deliberately fabricating and disseminating false facts, openly slandering and damaging the reputation of others, committing serious defamation and inciting others to the brink of death.

When the county authorities saw the documents submitted from below, considering the special nature of the case, they increased the severity of the charges against Huang Baohua and her accomplices by three points.

This matter is different; Zhong Linfang is one of the few women who stand up when faced with a criminal gang.

Now the grandfather and grandson are almost driven to their deaths.

If women are treated unfairly for bravely standing up, they will be even less likely to speak out when faced with similar situations, and hooliganism and crime will become even more rampant.

This will become a vicious cycle in society.

Ultimately, Huang Baohua and her family were sentenced to four years of detention and two years of re-education through labor, respectively, based on the severity of their offenses.

Zhou Sui abhorred the case and used some tricks to send the family to reunite with their good son-in-law.

This family is clearly not to be trifled with; let Liu Xiaomei worry about what happens next.

The verdict against Huang Baohua's family quickly reached Taohua Town, causing an uproar.
