Su Changzhi looked at the room full of things his wife had packed in a large sack and couldn't help but twitch his lips.
Liao Fengmei didn't spare any of the quilts, mats, basins, bowls, or chopsticks.
"Fengmei, Fengmei, what are you doing?"
Looking at the things in the room, Liao Fengmei said apologetically, "Even a broken house is worth a fortune. These are all useful items; you'll have to spend money to buy them over there."
Su Changzhi shook his head, "It's too far. Qingci said that after we get ashore, we still need to take a train and then a bus..."
"Keep it; we can still use it when we come back."
Liao Fengmei's eyes reflected immense joy, "Brother Dazhi, do you think... do you think we can come back again?"
Su Changzhi looked at his wife with a sense of guilt. He missed his hometown, but this place was also his wife's hometown.
"Qingci said that he can come back. The world is getting better and better now, and he might be able to come back for a visit anytime in ten or twenty years."
"Besides, Si Gui and the others all grew up here. Even if we can't walk anymore, when Si Gui and the others grow up, they might want to go back to the land that raised them, just like me."
Liao Fengmei nodded happily, "Okay, then I won't bring them. I'll leave them at home."
"Then, what should I pack?"
Liao Fengmei was full of energy and put the sorted mats, quilts, pots and pans back.
Actually, there's nothing in the house that needs tidying up.
In the end, what was packed up included a few packets of medicine for Su Changzhi, some dried goods stored at home, and several sets of everyone's old clothes.
Su Qingci planned to wait until evening, when there were no people at the dock, since it wouldn't be convenient to set off in a small boat with so many people, including children and the elderly.
In the evening, after dinner, Xu Dasheng brought Grandma Zeng and Xiaoyu over.
Su Changzhi finally secretly asked the question he had always wanted to ask.
"Aunt Zeng, haven't you always wanted to go back and visit?"
Grandma Zeng looked up at Su Changzhi gently, "I'm not leaving. I'll stay wherever Dasheng is. Besides, Grandpa Xiaoyu is still here."
After Grandma Zeng finished speaking, the light in her eyes dimmed, and she looked at her son sitting opposite her.
The Xu family is different from the Su family. The Su family has relatives waiting for them in their hometown, but if the Xu family were to go back, they might not even have a place to stay.
Moreover, Xiaoyu's health isn't good, and she can't handle the stress. Dasheng is also used to life here. At his age, it would be difficult for Dasheng to reintegrate into a new environment.
She was too old to disrupt the children's peaceful lives because of her own.
Inside the courtyard.
Sixteen-year-old Sigui and fourteen-year-old Xiaoyu also bid each other a reluctant farewell.
"Brother Sigui, I can't bear to part with you. Will you come back in the future?"
Looking at Xiaoyu, whose eyes were brimming with tears, Sigui said firmly, "I will come back. My home is still here. I didn't take anything with me. My dad said that I can come back for a visit again if I have the chance."
"Even if my dad doesn't come, I'll come back on my own when I grow up, and then I'll come to play with you."
"You have asthma, so be careful in your daily life. Don't eat foods that are too dry, too sweet, or have a strong flavor, or foods that irritate your throat. Also, don't stay up late."
Xiaoyu nodded, "I understand, Brother Sigui, don't forget, you must remember to come back and see me."
Sixiang and Sijia each carried an old schoolbag containing their own clothes and their textbooks.
Si Gui was tying two burlap sacks to his bicycle, which contained all the family's belongings that he could take with him.
After locking the door, Liao Fengmei handed the key to Xu Dasheng.
“Dasheng, we don’t know when we’ll be back after this trip. The house key is with you. You can use it if you need it, so it won’t be deserted.”
"If there's a suitable family, you can rent it out to them. It's up to you."
Xu Dasheng readily accepted the keys Liao Fengmei handed him and turned to Xiaoyu, saying, "Xiaoyu, you go home with Grandma first. Dad will see your Uncle Dazhi off."
Su Qingci took out two small flashlights from her schoolbag, handed one to Liao Fengmei to light the way, and tied the other to her bicycle.
"Alright, Uncle, Uncle Dasheng, take your time. I'll carry the things to the dock and wait for you."
"Okay, be careful."
Su Qingci rode away on her bicycle. Yunhai Village was not far from the dock, only about four miles away.
Su Qingci arrived in about ten minutes by bicycle. Those walking behind her would probably take about 20 minutes. However, Su Changzhi is not in good health and would probably have to slow down, so it might take him more than half an hour to walk. But Xu Dasheng and Sigui might carry him, so they might arrive earlier.
Su Qingci timed it, turned off her flashlight, rode her bicycle around the dock twice, and quickly found the secluded spot among the rocks where she had hidden last time. She cautiously released the cruise ship.
Lower the ladder and drop anchor.
After taking the bicycles to the farm and finishing up, Su Qingci turned around and headed towards the path above the dock to greet her uncle and the others.
Su Qingci had just stood on the path for a while when she heard a sound coming from ahead. She was about to ride her bicycle to meet her uncle when she heard a sound coming from ahead.
Upon closer inspection, what arrived under the moonlight was also a bicycle.
"Miss Su?"
Qianfu carried Su Changzhi on his back and gently called out to the figure in front.
Su Qingci thought she had misheard, "Qianfu?"
In just a short while, the bicycle stopped in front of Su Qingci. "Miss Su, it's me."
Su Qingci was a little surprised, "Why are you here? It's so dark."
