Chapter 135 Making a Phone Call Without Holding Back

Lu Yuan didn't care what his cheap sister-in-law thought. So what if he was blatantly lying to her? He just wanted her to know that he didn't like him and that she should stay away from him in the future.

After arriving at the commune, he went to the post office first, intending to pack up and mail everything he wanted to send before making a phone call.

They carried the two baskets and the bicycle directly into the post office. The post office was small and not very crowded, except for a short-haired woman knitting and two busy male staff members.

Lu Yuan walked straight to the window of the woman knitting a sweater and took out the pheasants and rabbits that were packed in a snakeskin bag from the basket.

"Hello comrade, serving the people, I need to send something."

"Hello comrade, serving the people, I'll process your request right away."

The short-haired woman quickly put down her yarn, opened the snakeskin bag, and gasped in shock.

It's all meat!

She glanced at Lu Yuan, said nothing, smiled at him, and handed him a mailing slip.

"Please fill in your address."

Lu Yuan started filling out the form, and the short-haired woman quickly packed and weighed the food.

By the time Lu Yuan finished filling out the form, the other party had already packed and weighed the package.

After paying the postage and getting everything ready, the short-haired woman noticed that there seemed to be pheasants and rabbits in his basket. She couldn't resist and whispered to him when the other two staff members weren't looking.

"Young man, would you like to trade this pheasant for one of yours? How about I trade it for one for my older sister?"

Lu Yuan looked at the six pheasants in the basket, then at the post office lady, thought for a moment, and nodded.

"I can only replace one for you; these are all gifts."

This post office is also a place where connections matter; building good relationships might come in handy later.

Six pheasants were originally just right: one for each of Director Jiang, Wang Fengnian, Uncle Zhong and his nephew, Zhang Hongxi, and Lu Qianjin.

Now that there's one less, we can save Director Zhong the trouble for now and let him just go to Grandpa Zhong's house to get some.

The short-haired woman was delighted when he agreed, "Okay, one is enough."

Lu Yuan picked out the fattest one for her; it weighed three or four pounds after being dried.

The short-haired woman was even happier to see this and gave him four yuan and a pound of grain coupons.

Lu Yuan also quietly said to her, "Big sister, I can go hunting in the mountains. I'll bring you some pheasants and rabbits when I catch them. Do you still want them?"

"Yes, yes, I'll take as many as you send over," the short-haired woman replied hastily.

After the two made an agreement, Lu Yuan went to the side to make a phone call. As soon as the call connected, a group of people rushed in.

Lu Yuan looked back and saw that it was the few educated youth who had recently come to the village.

Some of the people came to mail letters. After buying stamps and sending their letters, they left first. Xiao Fan, Yu Shaoheng, and Mo Lijuan wanted to make phone calls, so they lined up behind Lu Yuan to wait.

Lin Xiaofang didn't leave either; she was waiting for Mo Lijuan.

Lu Yuan called Wen Qihang at the Hangzhou Machine Tool Factory, but hung up because he had to go get him and wait for the other party to call back.

Mo Lijuan was a little reluctant to wait, so she asked Lu Yuan, "Brother-in-law, can I make a phone call first?"

Lu Yuan glanced at his watch and said, "No, they're about to call back."

Mo Lijuan bit her lip and stopped talking, looking as if she had suffered a great injustice.

The phone rang soon after. Lu Yuan thought it was Wen Qihang calling back, but when he answered, he realized it was his father-in-law.

He immediately called out affectionately, "Dad!"

Wen Shengtao was clearly taken aback, and the question he wanted to ask got stuck in his throat.

Worried about an awkward silence, Lu Yuan quickly announced the good news, "Dad, I told my older brother on the phone last time that Xiaoxue is pregnant, but he hung up before I could finish speaking. There's another piece of good news: Xiaoxue is very likely carrying triplets."

"You don't need to worry about her health. She can eat and sleep well now, and she doesn't have morning sickness. My godfather is a very good doctor, and he and my godmother live at home helping to take care of Xiaoxue. She's doing very well..."

Without waiting for a response, he started rambling on and on.

Regardless of the fact that he had no idea his wife was pregnant with triplets when he called his brother-in-law last time, he still held a grudge against him for suddenly hanging up on him last time.

Just wait and see if my brother-in-law will get scolded by his father-in-law and mother-in-law for losing such important information.

After sharing the good news, he started talking about Mo Lijuan, saying whatever came to mind regardless of whether she was nearby.

"Also, Xiaoxue's cousin arrived the day before yesterday. We received the things you brought, but she didn't give us the money. She said she lost it on the way, but we don't know if that's true or not."

Mo Lijuan: ......?!

Lin Xiaofang: ......?!

Xiao Fan raised his eyes, glanced at Lu Yuan, and his lips curled up almost imperceptibly.

Only Yu Shaoheng didn't understand the problem with what Lu Yuan said. He was only concerned about when Lu Yuan would finish his call. He had run fast and was now behind Lu Yuan in line. Once Lu Yuan finished his call, it would be his turn.

Lu Yuan continued, "By the way, Dad, I heard from our brigade leader that my cousin Xiaoxue wanted to rent a house from the brigade yesterday. I guess she's planning to move out of our house. Xiaoxue and I discussed it and decided to respect her wishes."

“The educated youth settlement is under renovation now, and the houses are very spacious. Even if she doesn’t live outside, it would be very comfortable for her to live back at the settlement. There are other educated youth there, who are of similar age and share the same interests. It would be good for her to go back…”

Upon hearing these words, Mo Lijuan felt a surge of anger rising within her. She clenched her fists so tightly that her nails almost dug into her flesh.

To say these things to her face without any restraint shows that he truly doesn't respect her at all.

It turns out they had planned to kick her out all along, and their excuses about her wanting to move out of her rented apartment were just that—excuses.
