Chapter 161 Preparing Supplies

Lu Yuan and the others could easily see through their intentions, and Xiao Biyun was so angry that her liver ached.

"Okay, you can stay here if you want, but we won't be cooking lunch at home."

The implication is that she doesn't provide meals.

Hsieh Shu-jung immediately replied, "No need, no need, we can do it ourselves."

As she spoke, she actually asked her two sisters-in-law to go buy groceries and cook, and also cooked for Lu Yuan and his family of four.

Lu Yuan and the others didn't stand on ceremony and ate as soon as the food was ready, but the taste was far inferior to what his wife made.

After lunch, the car that Gao Weishan had borrowed arrived, driven by Wen Gang, who had picked them up the night before.

At first, he was a little worried about Lu Yuan driving, but after Lu Yuan showed off his driving skills, he stopped saying anything.

Although it was still early, Lu Yuan still took his wife out. To others, it seemed difficult to gather a truckload of supplies in half a day by going out at this hour.

But for them, there wasn't much time to spare, so the young couple drove straight to the provincial capital.

As expected of the provincial capital, the streets are very bustling. Compared to their county town, it's like two different worlds, not to mention Hongxing Commune and Changhe Brigade.

After wandering around for a while, the two of them shattered their traditional understanding of this era.

The young couple discovered that transportation in the provincial capital was already very convenient at this time, with most people traveling by bicycle or tricycle.

Even without your own car, taking public transportation is very convenient, with trams and trolleybuses shuttling through the streets.

Telephone booths were also common, so people didn't have to go to the post office to make calls like they did in their commune and county town.

There are many shopping malls, and some large malls even have escalators and revolving doors, which both of them felt already had a modern look.

The mall is well-stocked with a wide variety of goods, including fur coats and cosmetics. The television counter alone displays dozens of televisions of different brands and sizes.

Their commune's supply and marketing cooperative didn't even have a single television set, and there were only one or two in the county town.

However, most of these TVs are black and white, and most are only 14 inches, with the largest appearing to be only 17 inches.

The two stared at the TV for a long time, not because they wanted it, but simply because they had never seen it before and wanted to see something new.

The sales clerk, seeing their clothes, assumed they were there to buy a television. At first, she greeted them with a smile, but after seeing that the two only looked around without asking any questions, she realized they were just there for the spectacle.

She pursed her lips, ignored the two of them, turned her head and sat back down to continue eating sunflower seeds.

The young couple weren't annoyed. They said that's how salespeople are these days—arrogant and conceited, acting like they're all that important.

The young couple strolled around and looked at the items, but didn't buy a single thing. However, they discovered that the department store had similar products to many items they hadn't dared to use before.

For example, there were clothes, shoes, and bags, and quite a few items. The two were worried that they wouldn't be able to remember them all, so they took out a small notebook and wrote them down.

This action attracted the attention of many sales clerks, who initially thought the two were comrades who had come to inspect the work, and their attitude immediately changed completely.

The young couple, unaware of the situation, felt that the sales clerks they encountered later had much better service than the previous ones, and couldn't help but sincerely praise them.

"Comrades, your service attitude is excellent. All sales clerks should have this kind of spirit!"

The sales clerks beamed with joy.

"Thank you for the praise, leader. Serving the people is what we should do."

lead?

The couple exchanged a glance and immediately understood; they had mistaken them for leaders on an inspection tour.

He suppressed a laugh, offered a couple more compliments, and then left the department store.

When they came out, the little girl almost burst out laughing, and Lu Yuan also found it funny.

The two carefully put away the recorded order slips, preparing to bring back more items that couldn't be bought in the city when they returned to the village this time.

Since it was still early, the two went to see a movie. They came out of the theater around seven o'clock.

The two drove to the suburbs, found a place in the middle of nowhere, and stopped. They went to the trunk and then went directly into the space.

We had a candlelight dinner in the space before we started preparing supplies.

The Gao family has quite a few members, especially the families of those uncles, which alone have more than 20 households with married men and children.

Including my eldest uncle's and Xiao's uncle's families, there are a total of twenty-five or twenty-six households.

With so many people, we can't skimp on the preparations.

Instead of taking out what they had grown, the two decided to clear out some of the inventory in the mall's warehouse first.

First, we got rice, flour, and cooking oil. We got 1,000 jin of rice, 500 jin of wheat flour, 300 jin of rapeseed oil, and 300 jin each of potatoes and sweet potatoes.

Secondly, there are non-staple foods: 100 jin each of fruit candy and White Rabbit milk candy, and 50 jin each of white sugar, brown sugar, fried dough twists, glutinous rice strips, and bulk biscuits.

There were also plenty of seasonings such as salt and soy sauce, and they even took 200 jin of pork and 100 jin of beef from the fresh meat section of the supermarket.

Next came 30 jin each of nuts such as sunflower seeds, peanuts, and walnuts, and 100 jin each of fruits such as oranges and apples.

Then there's the fabric; there's a lot of fabric in the space. There are several high-end boutiques, and their warehouses are piled high with good fabrics, wool, leather, and so on.

There was also a batch of ordinary fabrics that looked like they had been ripped off and were piled up in a corner, completely out of place with those high-end fabrics.

But these fabrics happened to be similar to those used in this era. There were black, blue, navy blue, and plaid fabrics, among others. I picked out two bolts of each, and also got two bolts of woolen fabric.

After choosing the fabric, the next step was shoes. The shoes that could be taken out were leather shoes. Many of the leather shoes were similar in style to those from this era. The two of them picked out about a hundred pairs, in various sizes.
