Chapter 20 is really fun!

Neither of them could sleep anymore, so they got up and got off the kang (a heated brick bed).

All the people who used to make a racket and smash things outside had gone to work, and even Li Xiaojun, carrying his schoolbag and yawning, went to school.

The fake couple hadn't recovered from the awkwardness of waking up.

Even unintentional eye contact can only elicit awkward smiles.

"Um, I have something to take care of outside."

"Wait a minute," Wen Moxue called out to him.

"Um?"

"Would you like to have breakfast first? I still have some of the pancakes I made yesterday; we can heat them up and eat them."

Speaking of food, Lu Yuan suddenly felt hungry.

The wild boar ate the pancakes from yesterday before they were even finished. Thinking of the delicious aroma of those pancakes, Lu Yuan didn't refuse.

Okay, thank you.

There were four egg pancakes left. Wen Moxue ate one, and Lu Yuan quickly finished the remaining three.

She patted her belly contentedly, "Your cooking is excellent."

There's just one strange thing: in this sweltering heat, I don't know how she kept it, but the pancakes are just as fresh as they were yesterday, without any change in taste.

Wen Moxue seemed to really enjoy being praised, and she proudly raised her chin again.

"That's right, don't you know who I am? I can do anything."

Lu Yuan smiled.

"I'm going out now."

Wen Moxue yawned.

"Okay, I'm going back to take a nap."

I only fell asleep in the early hours of last night, and was woken up this morning by Lu Xiaoqin and her sister deliberately making noise. I only slept for a little over three hours in total.

Now that I'm full, I'm starting to feel sleepy.

Lu Yuan wanted to go up the mountain again.

He caught two big ones yesterday and sold them all, not keeping a single pound or half an ounce for himself. He's thinking of catching a couple of pheasants or rabbits today for a treat.

"Ah Yuan, are we going up the mountain again?"

As I passed by a courtyard gate, I saw an old man who had lost his teeth sitting by the gate, holding the head of a cane with both hands, resting his chin on it, and asking me a question with his missing front tooth.

Lu Yuan replied with a smile, "Yes, Uncle Liu. Would you like to come up the mountain with me for a visit?"

That was just a joke.

This old man was the oldest in the village, more than ten years older than Uncle Lu.

However, he looks quite healthy, but it's impossible for him to go up the mountain with us.

Old Liu picked up his cane, intending to hit him a couple of times.

"You shameless scoundrel, how dare you make fun of an old man like me, you're asking for a beating."

Lu Yuan laughed and jumped away.

"Uncle Liu, I'll go up the mountain to find you some chestnuts to eat."

Old Liu gripped his cane tighter. He thought to himself, "That brat, I wish he could get some chestnuts."

Lu Yuan walked quite a distance away, then looked back once more.

Then he saw the old man staggering towards him.

Hey, is this old man really going to come up the mountain with us?

He stopped and waited for a moment. "Uncle Liu, are you really going up the mountain?"

"Go away, get out of here. This old man just wants to take a stroll."

"Alright, I'm off then."

This old man is a widowed and childless man in the village. His meals are prepared and delivered to him by the village head's wife every day.

The commune provides subsidies to elderly people like this in the village.

The brigade leader's family was responsible for his food, so the subsidy naturally went to the brigade leader's family.

The house he lived in was at the foot of the mountain in the village. Although it was large, it was very dilapidated.

Only the old man's house remained, barely providing shelter from the wind and rain.

This big house originally belonged to a well-known landlord in the village, and Old Liu was a servant in that household.

During the political movements of previous years, this entire family suffered.

The emancipated serfs sang songs of joy, but many servants rose up in anger and vandalized their master's house. The house was burned down and is now on the verge of collapse, and has become even more dilapidated in recent years.

Old Liu was all alone and had nowhere to go, so he repaired a room and stayed there.

Over the years, Grandpa Liu has been living alone in this abandoned house.

This place is quite far from the village center, and the old man rarely goes out in the village. Often, everyone almost forgets that there is such an old man in the village.

This road up the mountain is not the main road; it is narrow, steep, and difficult to walk on, and almost no one goes up the mountain from here.

It was only because Lu Yuan, who liked to take shortcuts, often took this route that he would frequently run into Old Man Liu and chat with him for a few minutes.

Lu Yuan moved very quickly and soon reached the mountainside.

Here you can see the entire abandoned old house.

Apart from the house near the entrance where someone lives, the rest of the place is overgrown with weeds.

Lu Yuan clicked his tongue and shook his head, feeling it was a bit of a waste to have such a large space.

Because it used to be the home of a wealthy landlord, and it was almost completely burned down, nobody cared about the land anymore. In fact, people usually avoided it like the plague.

Wait a minute, what's this place? It looks like a hidden paradise!

Something is wriggling in that pile of weeds. There seems to be a pile of...clothes next to it?

Okay, what's wriggling are two white bodies.

How exciting! Someone's skipping work to have sex in the open.

Tsk!

They're really playing a fancy game.

The distance was too far to see clearly who it was, and Lu Yuan wasn't particularly interested.

I'm worried that even looking at it for a second will give me a sty.

But the next second his eyes widened.

Who else could it be but Old Man Liu, leisurely approaching the field?

Weren't we just taking a walk outside? How did we end up wandering inside again?

Wow!

Is this old man going to run into it?

Oh dear, it looks like we bumped into each other.

The two people in white were frantically putting on their clothes, clearly aware that there were outsiders present.

I wonder if the old man saw the two of them.

Alright, the three of them have met up.

What the hell are these two doing? They actually pushed the old man to the ground and started choking him.

Lu Yuan took off running downhill.
