Chapter 229 So, whether there's evidence or not, it's all slander.

When Lu Yuan went upstairs, he saw two policemen questioning the Wen family, while the Yu family elders occasionally chimed in.

"It was their son-in-law who did it. I heard he's just a country bumpkin. My son and his wife used to date. He must have been so angry that he beat my son up."

“That’s right. My son has always been a kind person and never gets into conflicts with anyone. The only person he’s had a minor argument with recently is this guy, a country bumpkin who’s capable of anything.”

"Bullshit! You're the brutes! My son-in-law is a law-abiding citizen and would never do something like putting a sack over someone's head and beating them up. Your son must have offended someone and that's why he got beaten up. Don't try to pin it on my son-in-law," Mo Yitao shouted.

"You're the one talking nonsense..."

"Hey, who's farting?" Lu Yuan leaned against the door frame and interjected with a forced smile.

Everyone looked in the direction of the voice, and Yu's mother immediately perked up, "Officer, it's him, it's him who hit my son, arrest him quickly."

The two policemen looked Lu Yuan up and down, and were surprised. Weren't they supposed to be country bumpkins? Why would they call this a country bumpkin? If all country bumpkins looked like this, they would want to be one too.

"Hello, are you Comrade Lu?" one of the police officers, who was around 30 years old, asked.

Lu Yuan nodded, "Yes, that's me!"

"Someone has reported you for intentionally causing injury. Please come with us."

Lu Yuan took out his work ID from his pocket, handed it over, and asked, "Does the whistleblower have substantial evidence or is it just suspicion? If it's just suspicion, ask me here. I'll cooperate fully. If there is so-called evidence, then I will also report them for fabricating evidence to slander soldiers."

The two police officers opened his work ID, looked at it carefully, exchanged a glance, and then respectfully returned it with both hands.

"Okay, it's the same if we find out the situation here."

Then the two police officers began their routine questioning: "Where were you and what were you doing around 11:30 p.m. on September 10th?"

"I was dreaming in bed about my teacher."

The police officer's face twitched. "How can this be such nonsense!"

"You remember it so clearly?"

"Yes, September 10th is my teacher's birthday. I was thinking about him during the day. I guess this is what they mean by 'what you think about during the day, you dream about at night'."

He couldn't really call it Teacher's Day, as the term didn't exist at that time; it only became a holiday in the mid-1980s after the reform and opening up. Hearing them mention the date just now, he subconsciously thought of Teacher's Day, and then he made up a whole dream.

"I see!"

"Do you have any past grievances with Comrade Yu Xuejian?"

Lu Yuan shook his head. "No, at least in my opinion, no. We've only met once. He and his wife came to my father-in-law's house and we ran into each other. Strictly speaking, we're brothers-in-law. We had a very pleasant chat at home that day, and I even personally saw them off downstairs when they left."

Wen Moxue and the elderly couple from the Wen family both turned their heads away, trying their best to control their facial expressions.

Lu Yuan continued, "But when I went back upstairs, he called me back again. His wife seemed to have some serious illness and had fainted at the alley entrance. He was carrying a child and couldn't take his wife to the hospital. I kindly helped him take the child."

The two police officers exchanged a glance. The officer who had asked the question earlier coughed lightly and asked again, "I heard that Comrade Yu used to date your wife. What do you think about that? Do you mind? Or even hold a grudge?"

No, no, no, no!

Lu Yuan waved his hands repeatedly, "What's there to hold a grudge about? I'm grateful to him. Dating is usually with marriage in mind. I sincerely thank Comrade Yu for not marrying my wife in the end. Otherwise, what would I have been able to do later? My wife is so good. Missing out would be a lifelong regret."

The two police officers glanced at Wen Moxue subconsciously, then immediately looked away. Damn, indeed, such a beautiful wife, missing out on her would be a lifelong regret.

"One last question: Comrade Yu and his family say that you were the one who hit him. What is your explanation for that?"

Lu Yuan shrugged. "There's nothing to explain. I didn't hit anyone. If you say I hit someone, then produce evidence. If you can't, then it's slander."

The two police officers' faces twitched again. So, whether there was evidence or not, it was all slander?

"Thank you for your cooperation, Comrade Lu. If there are any other questions about the case that we would like to ask you, we hope that you will continue to cooperate in the future."

"Of course."

Even after the police left, the elderly couple from the Yu family were still indignant. "Why didn't they arrest them? He hit my son, why weren't they arrested?"

The police officer gave them a stern lecture, and the two reluctantly left.

Mo Yitao cursed, "What kind of person is he? He got beaten up and then tries to slander A Yuan. He doesn't even know who he offended. Humph, if you ask me, he should have been beaten to death!"

"Alright, you should say less," Wen Shengtao said.

Turning to Lu Yuan, he asked, "Has the house been handed over yet? Why did it take so long?"

"I handed over the keys to Dad and helped them move, so I came back a little late."

Wen Shengtao nodded, "In that case, after lunch we'll go over there and clean up the house."

Mo Yitao also said, "I think it's a good idea!"

Seeing that they had settled things, Wen Moxue pulled Lu Yuan back to their room.

"Honey, don't rush. It's still broad daylight, and Mom and Dad are home. How about tonight?"

Wen Moxue rolled her eyes and pinched his arm. "Be serious!"

"If I'm serious with my wife, I become listless and can't stand up for myself. How can I be serious?"

Wen Moxue glared at him angrily, "Alright, I'm asking you, did you hit Yu Xuejian?"
