Chapter 256 Promotion, Child Abuse?

The Liang Guobin incident continued to escalate, affecting everything. The files in the basement all became evidence, and the staff in Hangzhou were all on edge. After four or five days of investigation and a major reshuffle, the matter gradually calmed down.

The fact that many people were removed from their posts meant that many others were promoted as well. Yan Keqin's advancement was within Lu Yuan's expectations, because Lu Yuan had written a letter of complaint against him, which led to Yan Keqin becoming a member of the investigation team.

Lu Yuan thought that he and Yan Keqin were on good terms, and that Yan Keqin's further efforts would benefit both the Wen and Mo families, at least more than if someone else had gotten the credit.

The main reason he avoided Uncle Mo was because of Liang Guobin's identity as a spy. There were definitely more than just one person with the surname Liang with such an identity; there were others in the shadows. The person who received the tip-off letter was both an opportunity and a danger to them, and would definitely become a target.

Lu Yuan didn't want his uncle Mo to be in danger.

Furthermore, for a section chief like him to receive a whistleblower letter would seem like a deliberate attempt to gain credit. Everyone in the unit is very shrewd, and Lu Yuan was worried that someone might follow the clues and connect this matter to him.

Lu Yuan didn't expect that even though he deliberately avoided giving credit to Uncle Mo, Uncle Mo still became the beneficiary in the end, and was promoted two levels directly, from section chief to division chief.

Yan Keqin was also promoted and joined the Municipal Revolutionary Committee as deputy director, which is equivalent to deputy mayor.

Yan Keqin, for reasons unknown, even brought gifts to the courtyard, claiming that his daughter's face had visibly improved in the past few days and he wanted to thank Lu Yuan and his wife. But most of the time they talked about Liang Guobin.

The way he looked at Lu Yuan was intriguing, and his words were full of probing. The main reason was that on the day Liang Guobin was exposed, Lu Yuan had gone to ask him about the Liang family, and that very night the Liang family had an accident. It was too much of a coincidence.

But if Lu Yuan was behind this, his abilities are terrifying. He managed to expose a spy who had been lying low for many years in just one day, which is truly astonishing. This is not something an ordinary person could do.

Lu Yuan seemed unaware that he was being tested, and let him scrutinize him, responding with a smile throughout and even congratulating him on his promotion.

When Yan Keqin realized he couldn't get anything out of them, he was relieved. What did it matter whether Lu Yuan was behind it or not? It didn't affect their friendship at all.

He smiled and said goodbye, "That old leader has suffered a great blow, and his condition is not optimistic. We still need to go to the hospital to see him, so we'll be leaving now."

Lu Yuan escorted the person out of the courtyard.

The next day, news came that the old leader had passed away. After the investigation was completed, it was found that the old leader knew that the deaths of his two sons and his own tuberculosis infection were not accidental. His weak body simply could not withstand it and he passed away.

Everyone sighed, but few were truly saddened or heartbroken for him.

Some are happy while others are sad. Uncle Mo has been promoted, so it's not appropriate to celebrate openly. However, his relatives can still get together to share their joy in private.

It was still in Lu Yuan's courtyard. This place is a private courtyard with its own entrance. Uncle Mo and his family live in the staff housing of their work unit. Their neighbors are all people from their work unit. It wouldn't be appropriate to celebrate at their house, so they arranged to meet at the courtyard.

Lin Yue'e and her daughter-in-law Zhou Yan went to the market early in the morning to buy a lot of vegetables to prepare lunch. Mo Dajiu and his two sons would be arriving later, and Wen Qihang and his wife had not arrived yet either. Lu Yuan left the courtyard gate open and went out for a walk, planning to bring back some cooked food and fruit.

Wen Moxue placed a mat in the main room and put the three children on it to play with their toys. Mo Yitao was in the kitchen holding her grandson Yu Zhenghui, wanting to talk to her sister-in-law, but the child was making a fuss and wanted to play with the triplets.

Lin Yue'e instructed her daughter-in-law, "Xiao Yan, take the child out to play."

Zhou Yan couldn't be happier. She didn't know what was wrong with her today, but when she helped wash the vegetables and saw chicken, duck and fish, she felt nauseous. She was about to throw up if she didn't leave the kitchen.

Without saying a word, he washed his hands and took the child to the main room.

"Is this child easy to take care of?" Lin Yue'e asked Mo Yitao.

"It's alright. There's food and drink, and Da Bao and his friends are playmates. Most of the time they're easy to take care of, but..."

He seemed to remember something and smiled again, "They just like to snatch toys. The triplets are all very clever. Even at such a young age, they know which ones are brothers and which ones are not. Xiao Hui can play with them, but he can't take their toys, otherwise the three brothers will fight him together."

No sooner had the words left his mouth than the sound of a child crying loudly could be heard.

The two walked to the kitchen door and peeked in. They saw that Da Bao, Er Bao, and San Bao were all tugging at Yu Zhenghui's clothes, babbling something.

Mo Yitao knew exactly what was going on at a glance.

"Xiaoyan, tell Xiaohui to give the tiger plush toy back to Erbao so he can play with his own."

Zhou Yan quickly did as instructed, but little Yu Zhenghui wanted the second child. Helpless, Zhou Yan looked at Wen Moxue with pleading eyes, hoping she would persuade the triplets to back down.

Wen Moxue pretended not to see it. Why should her child suffer for someone else's child?

The tiger doll was made by her and her mother-in-law a long time ago for their three children. Her mother-in-law also embroidered the words "Da Bao, Er Bao, San Bao" on each doll. The three children could identify their dolls by the different words and never fought over them.

When little Yu Zhenghui arrived, Wen Moxue saw that he liked it too, so she kindly made one for him as well, only without embroidering any words. But the child just didn't like hers; he preferred Da Bao and Er Bao's. Every time they played, he would either take Da Bao's or Er Bao's.

Zhou Yan could also see that Wen Moxue was unwilling to back down, so she awkwardly went to coax little Yu Zhenghui again.
