Lu Xiaofang and Lu Xiaoqin's eyes lit up as they both looked at Zhang Yuping, their eyes full of hope.
My mother dotes on my younger brother the most; if he wants to eat something, she might actually be able to make it.
But Zhang Yuping refused.
"Why would we eat rice? We can't afford that. If we eat all the grain in one meal, are we not going to eat anything afterwards?"
Lu Xiaojun persisted relentlessly.
"Father, Mother, I want to eat rice. My older brother has already eaten rice, so I want some too."
From a young age, he knew one thing: whatever his older brother had, he could definitely have too.
What his elder brother didn't have, he also has.
Zhang Yuping looked troubled.
"Xiaojun, it's not that your parents don't want you to eat, it's just that we don't have enough food."

Lu Yuan and Wen Moxue had just finished eating.
Wen Moxue didn't make plain rice, but rather a sweet potato rice dish mixed with sweet potatoes.
She added lard, making it even more fragrant than plain rice.
Lu Yuanxuan ate three large bowls.
Even Wen Moxue, who doesn't have a big appetite, ate a whole bowlful.
There was only one small green vegetable dish, so Wen Moxue made an egg and green vegetable soup, which was served with sweet potato rice. The two of them ate all the food.
Hearing the knocking, Lu Yuan got up and flung the door open.
The hand that was banging on the door almost hit him. He reacted quickly and grabbed it.
"What are you yelling for? If you want rice, go find your parents. I'm not your father."
With a gentle push, Lu Xiaojun staggered a few steps before regaining his balance.
Then, realizing that Lu Yuan wasn't going to give him rice, he let out a loud wail and plopped down on the ground.
"Waaah, big brother pushed me! Big brother is bullying me!"
Lu Yuan scoffed, "Trying to stage an accident? If you hadn't held your ground for a second, I might have actually believed that I pushed you down."
Lu Xiaojun waved his arms and kicked his legs, "I don't care, you're the one who pushed me, you have to pay me back with rice."
"Tsk, you're not a child anymore, yet you still act like a three-year-old, crying and throwing a tantrum. Anyone who didn't know better would think you're an idiot."
"You're the idiot, your whole family are idiots."
Lu Yuan crossed his arms, looked at Lu Guoqing with a leisurely air, and sneered.
"Ha, Dad, did you hear that? He said my whole family are idiots."
Lu Guoqing, his face dark and sullen, glared at Lu Yuan and scolded his youngest son who was sitting on the ground.
"Shut up, get up and go back to your room."
The whole family are idiots. Aren't these two unfilial sons just insulting him by saying he's an idiot too?
Lu Xiaojun was scolded and cried even louder.
Knowing that begging his father was useless, he clung to Zhang Yuping's leg again. "Mom, I want to eat rice. My older brother has rice, can you let him give it to me?"
Zhang Yuping looked at Lu Yuan with a troubled expression.
“Ah Yuan, Xiao Jun is your own brother. He’s just a kid with a sweet tooth. You’re all eating alone and not giving us adults any, but give your brother a bowl.”
Lu Yuan smiled.
"Tsk, what do you mean by 'eating alone'? Get it straight, you've already split up the family."
"You're shameless. You just kicked me out with nothing and now you're eyeing my family's food. What, you think my wife supports me, but you expect her to support you all? What a pipe dream!"
Zhang Yuping was furious. "A Yuan, how can you say that? It's just that your brother wanted to eat some rice, how did it become your wife supporting us?"
Lu Yuan looked at Lu Xiaojun, acting like a good older brother.
"Want some rice?"
Lu Xiaojun stopped crying, sniffled hard, and nodded vigorously.
Lu Yuan revealed a set of neat, white teeth.
"If you want to eat rice, just do what I do: find a wife and have her cook rice for you."
Lu Xiaojun was preoccupied with rice and didn't catch the sarcasm in Lu Yuan's words at all.
He turned to Zhang Yuping and called out, "Mom, I want to get married. Find me a wife too, so she can cook rice for me."

"Hahahahaha..."
Wen Moxue burst out laughing inside the room, but she couldn't laugh too loudly, so she had to cover her mouth and hold it in.
Lu Yuan had no such reservations and laughed wildly.
Zhang Yuping was almost driven to tears by her son's stupidity, and glared at him with exasperation.
Lu Guoqing's face darkened and he roared again, "Get back inside!"
He then went back to his room.
He finally understood that his eldest son and daughter-in-law hadn't prepared anything for him, so there was no need for him to embarrass himself by waiting here.
Hmph, just like his stepmother said, he's an ungrateful wretch who can't be tamed.
Seeing that Lu Guoqing had left, Zhang Yuping knew she wouldn't get any rice, so she took her youngest son back to the house to coax him.
Lu Xiaofang and Lu Xiaoqin resigned themselves to their fate and went to the kitchen to cook.
Lu Yuan returned to the house, and Wen Moxue smiled secretly.
"You're so mean! Your little brother is so young and you're already teaching him to be a kept man."
Lu Yuan shrugged. "I'm telling the truth."
"You don't seem to care about your reputation at all."
"What does reputation matter? Can you eat it?"
