Chapter 28 Injuries Worsen

Lu Yuan frowned. "What did the doctor say?"

Sun Maodou shook his head, "The doctor checked my pulse and said I needed to be taken to the emergency room."

Lu Yuan frowned in thought. The doctor had said in the morning that he was out of danger, but his condition suddenly worsened in the evening, requiring another emergency treatment.

Was he too late? Did the murderer know that Grandpa Liu was out of danger and take advantage of Sun Maodou's absence to commit the crime?

"You didn't have a nurse watch over you when you went to get your food?"

Sun Maodou asked, confused, "Why do we need a nurse to watch over us?"

Lu Yuan's brows furrowed even more.

"Didn't any police officers come over to say anything to you?"

"They came and just told me to keep a close watch on him, and to go to the police station to notify them when Grandpa Liu wakes up."

"I told you to keep a close watch on things, why didn't you ask the nurses for help when you left?"

Sun Maodou was almost in tears. "The police officers didn't tell me what to do when we went to eat."

Lu Yuan was speechless, nudging the other person a few times, unable to utter a single word.

Damn it, I just can't understand this person's brain structure.

Sun Maodou was still feeling extremely wronged.

He originally wanted to save the money and take it home, but he couldn't hold on any longer and went to the cafeteria.

He also arrived too late, and there wasn't much food left in the cafeteria, so he didn't get full at all.

"I kept a close watch on it the whole time, and I didn't even dare to go to eat. I wouldn't have gone to the cafeteria if I wasn't really starving. I went too late and didn't even get a full meal."

As she spoke, her stomach chimed softly twice in agreement.

Lu Yuan rubbed his forehead, and after a long while, he asked, "Has anyone suspicious come to the ward today?"

Sun Maodou shook his head, "No, today, besides the police officers, only the captain came and gave me money and food coupons."

Lu Yuan nodded, thinking that the murderer wouldn't dare to come to the ward openly and let this silly boy see him.

It's not surprising that the brigade leader came to see people and give them money tickets.

In the morning, he assured the police that these matters would be arranged in a meeting.

"Did the captain come over and say anything to you?"

Logically speaking, besides giving money and coupons, the brigade leader should have given Sun Maodou some advice, at least to make him more aware of the dangers.

Sun Maodou nodded, "He gave me instructions, and told me to take good care of Grandpa Liu, and also to save money."

"Anything else?" Lu Yuan asked.

"Anything else?" Sun Maodou scratched his head. "No, that's all."

Lu Yuan narrowed his eyes slightly. Why didn't Sun Changsheng give him any more instructions?

Thinking of the two figures I saw on the mountain, the doubts I had dismissed resurfaced.

"When did the captain arrive? I didn't see him on the way here." He asked casually.

Sun Maodou replied matter-of-factly, "They must have gone back a long time ago. The brigade leader arrived around four o'clock."

Lu Yuan understood; if it were around four o'clock, they would probably have already returned to the village, so it was normal not to run into them.

He left the village around six o'clock, by which time the brigade leader should have already arrived home.

Sun Maodou looked towards the emergency room door and asked Lu Yuan.

"Are you on night watch tonight? May I leave now?"

He felt a little guilty, after all, Grandpa Liu was still in danger and his injuries had worsened under his care.

Lu Yuan didn't offer any further explanation, simply waving his hand, "Alright, you can go back now."

I didn't give him any more instructions. Given his current condition, it wouldn't matter if he told anyone.

This person only exaggerates the situation and reveals things from here.

Sun Maodou ran off happily.

Not long after he left, He Shenghua arrived.

It's not surprising to see Lu Yuan there.

They must have run into Sun Maodou on the road and learned the general situation.

"Grandpa Liu hasn't come out yet?" He Shenghua asked, frowning.

"Um."

They've been inside for over half an hour and still haven't come out. Lu Yuan was worried and had no interest in chatting, so he simply replied with a single word.

"Didn't you say I was coming over tonight? Why are you here too?"

"I've come to deliver the medicine," Lu Yuan said, making up an excuse.

"Why don't you give the medicine to the captain or bring it over yourself? That would save you the trouble of making an extra trip."

Lu Yuan turned to look at him, "How did you know the brigade leader was here? Did you hear it from Maodou?"

"No, I met him on the way here."

Lu Yuan's heart skipped a beat. The captain was only going home this late?

Where did you meet them?

"It was at Jigong Cliff. Not long after, we ran into Sun Maodou again."

He paused and then murmured, "The brigade leader drives the oxcart, I wonder why he doesn't ride in the oxcart with the brigade leader all the way."

Jigongya is not far from the commune, about a 15-minute walk away.

It got its name because there was a cliff there that looked like a rooster.

Lu Yuan thought that he had been at the commune for more than half an hour, and He Shenghua had come from Jigongya in a quarter of an hour, which meant that the brigade leader had arrived at Jigongya fifteen minutes ago.

He drove the oxcart, and it took him less than fifteen minutes to get there from the commune.

So, by that calculation, the brigade leader had only left after I arrived at the commune. That's why the two of them didn't run into each other.

But Sun Maodou said the brigade leader would arrive at the clinic around four o'clock.

During this period of two or three hours, the brigade leader did not return to the village.

Where did he go? And what did he do?

Lu Yuan's mind was filled with these two questions.

It took him a while to suppress his doubts. He was the brigade leader, so it seemed he could also handle some official business at the commune.

I let out a sigh of relief; perhaps I was just being paranoid.

"Are you going back to the brigade now?" He Shenghua asked.

Lu Yuan shook his head, "Let's wait for Grandpa Liu to come out first."

Old Liu's condition was unclear, and he wasn't comfortable letting him go back like this. Besides, he hadn't originally planned to go back tonight anyway.
