Chapter 31 Bricklaying

"Forward! Look who's coming!"

Li Dezhu's loud voice drew everyone's attention.

Lu Qianjin looked up and saw Lu Yuan, and a smile immediately appeared on his face.

He threw the cigarette butt on the ground, got up, and went forward.

"Ah Yuan, what brings you here?"

After asking the question, he immediately realized what he had said and slapped his forehead.

"You're here to ask about the approval slip, right?"

"Don't worry, my father-in-law has already received the approval."

Lu Yuan was overjoyed. "That's great! Thank you, Uncle Li and Brother Qianjin."

Li Dezhu laughed and patted Lu Yuan on the shoulder.

"Haha, don't be so polite. We're all family here. It's just a small favor."

Lu Qianjin said, "The note was at home. I was saying I'd go back to the village after lunch to bring it to you. It's perfect that you're here. I'll take you straight to the brick factory later."

“Yes, yes, you guys go back first, have lunch at home, and then go to the factory to pick up bricks and tiles,” Li Dezhu said.

These days, food is precious, so it's not appropriate to stay at someone else's house for a meal. Lu Yuan refused.

"Uncle Li, Brother Qianjin, let's skip the meal. We need to take care of business first. I'll pay you a proper visit another day."

He scratched his head sheepishly, "I left last night and didn't go home all night. My wife must be worried."

Hearing him say that, Li Dezhu and Lu Qianjin burst into laughter again and did not try to stop him.

“Okay, next time you come over, let’s have a couple of drinks together,” Li Dezhu said.

"Qianjin, take Ayuan to the brick factory now and get the bricks and tiles back as soon as possible."

"Okay, Dad, I'll be going now."

Lu Yuan politely said goodbye to Li Dezhu before leaving the business office with Lu Qianjin.

Lu Qianjin took Lu Yuan home first, quickly washed up, changed into clean clothes, and then went to the brick and tile factory with the permit.

Perhaps because Li Dezhu had warned him beforehand, Lu Qianjin brought several packs of Daqianmen cigarettes with him from home when he left.

Lu Yuan knew this was prepared for his sake. He had originally wanted to buy cigarettes himself, but he only had money and no cigarette coupons, so it was all for nothing.

Seeing that Lu Qianjin had taken a cigarette, he slipped five yuan to him.

There's no reason to ask someone to prepare something in return for helping them with something.

Lu Qianjin initially refused, but seeing that he insisted, he accepted one dollar and sixty cents.

Daqianmen cigarettes cost 33 cents a pack, and he took five packs, which came to 1.65 yuan.

Lu Yuan knew he hadn't given enough, but he didn't insist. He thought he would buy more gifts to thank him later.

Lu Qianjin handed the cigarette to Lu Yuan and gave him some instructions.

"When you see their manager and the brick and tile deliveryman later, you should offer them cigarettes."

Lu Yuan nodded. "Understood."

I thought to myself that it wasn't just about that; I also needed to build a good relationship with the gatekeeper.

Small favors may not amount to much money, but they make people feel better and more attentive in their work, so they won't suffer any losses.

Seeing that he understood, Lu Qianjin couldn't help but glance at him a few more times, and said with a smile,

"You're a different person now that you're married; you've become much more mature and stable."

Lu Yuan didn't explain anything, just chuckled twice.

Such a beautiful misunderstanding is not bad either; people can use this as an excuse to explain any changes in him in the future.

The two arrived at the brick factory. The gatekeeper was an old man who looked to be in his fifties or sixties, with half-white hair. He was wearing a gray Lenin suit and cloth shoes.

Holding a large enamel mug, he sat in the shade by the front door, leisurely sipping his tea.

He doesn't look like a gatekeeper; he looks more like a junior manager in the factory.

What do you do?

Upon seeing Lu Yuan and the other person, he asked.

Lu Yuan hurriedly approached with a smile, "Grandpa, we're here to haul bricks and tiles, we have the permit."

As he spoke, he took out a pack of cigarettes and the approval slip and handed them over.

Seeing this, the old gatekeeper glanced at him, put down the enamel mug, and took it with a smile.

It wasn't that he coveted the pack of cigarettes, but rather that it was rare for someone to be so polite and generous to a doorman like him.

He put the cigarette in his pocket, checked the receipt, and, seeing that it was correct, returned it.

"Wait a moment, I'll take you to the factory leaders."

"Thank you for your trouble, sir," Lu Yuan said politely.

The gatekeeper waved his hand, "No trouble at all. I've been sitting for too long, so I'm getting up to stretch."

He personally led the person to an office.

Inside, a middle-aged man in his late thirties was sitting at his desk reading a newspaper. He was of medium build and had a square face.

There is a black mole the size of a sesame seed on the left brow peak, which makes it easy to remember at a glance.

"Director Zhong, these two are here to haul bricks and tiles. You'd better make proper arrangements for them," the gatekeeper said.

Zhong Zhidong looked at Lu Yuan and Lu Qianjin and confirmed that he did not recognize them.

I had originally planned to handle things officially and have them line up. But seeing that it was my second uncle who personally led the group over and even gave them a special instruction, I could only smile helplessly and agree.

"Understood, Second Uncle. I will personally lead them to the designated car."

The address of "Second Uncle" surprised Lu Qianjin, who looked at the gatekeeper.

Lu Yuan understood; usually, these gatekeepers were people with connections. He just hadn't expected this old man to be so kind.

He quickly thanked him, "Thank you so much, Director Zhong."

He turned around and shook hands with the gatekeeper, saying, "Thank you too, Uncle Zhong."

Director Zhong is already calling him Second Uncle, so it's certain that the old man's surname is Zhong.

Zhong Quanyong waved his hand and didn't concern himself with the rest.

As soon as he left, Lu Yuan did the same thing again, handing over the cigarettes and the approval slip together.

I also rolled up a 100-yuan note inside.

This person looks like a leader who can make decisions. Whether or not we can get the bricks and tiles back today depends on this person.

Zhong Zhidong thought there were only cigarettes, so he casually took them and then discovered there was money too.

I raised an eyebrow; these two young people really know what they're doing.
