As night deepened, the cowshed finally quieted down.
Accompanied by the distinctive smell of the cowshed, the three straw sheds echoed with the sounds of snoring.
At this time, Jia Liqin and her brother also returned to the cowshed.
Lu Pingru was worried that her daughter hadn't fallen asleep yet, so she sat up immediately when she heard the noise, followed by the rustling sound of straw.
"You're back?" she asked in a very low voice.
Jia Liqin groped her way over, excitedly grabbed her arm, and whispered, "Mom, come out with me first, I have something to tell you."
Lu Pingru thought that she should go out and discuss how to deal with Tang Fenglin when they couldn't come up with rice.
She sighed softly and obediently went out the door.
"Daughter, it's okay, don't worry. Go to bed early. If it gets too bad, Mom will kneel down and beg her again tomorrow."
As she spoke, tears welled up in her eyes again.
"Besides, she's preoccupied with those things, she won't be willing to abort the child."
Jia Liqin snatched the basket from Jia Zhichao's hand and handed it to him, "Mom, look what this is?"
Lu Pingru, bewildered, instinctively grabbed the basket, then reached inside and grabbed at it, only to be stunned for a moment, followed by wild joy.
"Liqin, this is rice, it's rice, right?"
After asking the question, he calmed down and hurriedly asked,
"Liqin, where did this rice come from? You're not going to do something stupid, are you?"
The initial surge of elation vanished instantly, replaced by tension and fear. He worried that his fears were true, and his words were choked with sobs.
Jia Liqin quickly reassured her, "Don't worry, Mom, this is what my brother and I earned today."
"Earned it? How did you earn it?" Lu Pingru asked.
Jia Liqin recounted in detail how she collected medicinal herbs to exchange for money and grain.
Lu Pingru was overjoyed once again.
"Great! Great! We're saved!"
The mother and daughter hugged each other, crying and laughing, and Jia Zhichao's eyes also welled up with tears.
After a while, the mother and daughter separated. Lu Pingru talked about the trouble Tang Fenglin had caused the Wei family, and Jia Liqin was so ashamed and indignant that she wanted to die.
"She's trying to completely ruin my reputation!"
Lu Pingru said, "Yes, who knows what the Wei family is thinking of us now? In the future, try to stay away from that Wei kid."
"I understand, Mom!"
If she doesn't stay far away, she'll lose all face.
Lu Pingru then instructed her son, "Feng Lin was ultimately dishonest in this matter and has wronged the Wei family. When you return, tell them about the herbal medicine exchange business and consider it an apology."
This can't be kept secret, so it's better to tell the truth and curry favor.
"Okay, Mom!" Jia Zhichao replied.
The next day.
The first thing Tang Fenglin did when he woke up was to ask if the rice had been brought back. When he saw Lu Pingru cooking rice porridge, he yelled loudly.
"Wow, Liqin is amazing! She actually managed to bring back the rice. Tell your sister-in-law, which man did you trade it with?"
"Shut up! Listen to what you're saying, is that even human language?" Jia Zhichao snapped.
Tang Fenglin glanced at him and said disdainfully, "What did I say that wasn't human language? Humph, she's already done it, so I'm not even allowed to ask a question?"
"you……"
Jia Zhichao raised his hand, really wanting to slap the man to death, but he held back because of some concerns.
"Fine, so you want to hit me too."
As she spoke, she stuck out her belly and pointed to it, inviting him to hit her.
"Come on, hit me, just hit me here."
"Come on, hit me here! You might as well kill me, but you can forget about having a son."
"Jia Zhichao, you spineless coward! For your sister's sake, you don't even want your only son. If you dare to lay a finger on me today, I'll make sure you have no descendants."
