Chapter 41 Threat

"You went to the health center the other day to check on Grandpa Liu. How is he? Has he still not woken up?"

The police have always required that Old Liu's situation be kept confidential, and the specific details are only shared among a few people who knew about it at the time.

Lu Yuan looked up at her; this girl seemed to care quite a bit about Grandpa Liu.

He lowered his voice and replied, "I heard from He Zhiqing and Maodou these past two days that Grandpa Liu's condition has worsened again, and he probably won't wake up again."

Wen Moxue frowned instantly. "How did it suddenly get so serious?"

Lu Yuan shrugged. "Who knows? The doctor probably made a mistake."

Wen Moxue blurted out, "Impossible."

Lu Yuan looked at her suspiciously, "So certain?"

She quickly explained, "I heard that Dr. Gao from the health center came from the provincial capital and is very skilled. How could he possibly make a mistake on such a basic examination?"

Lu Yuan's slender fingers tapped lightly on the surface of the kang table as he stared intently at her.

Just when Wen Moxue was feeling guilty and almost couldn't hold back, Lu Yuan finally spoke.

“You’re right. But there’s nothing we can do to help with Grandpa Liu’s situation, so let’s not talk about him anymore.”

Wen Moxue thought for a moment and then said, "I'll go to the commune tomorrow and visit Grandpa Liu while I'm there."

Lu Yuan stared at her for a while before speaking.

"Don't go. I heard the police are keeping a close watch these days. You won't be able to see Grandpa Liu even if you go."

Wen Muxue asked, "Has Grandpa Liu been harmed again these past two days?"

Otherwise, why would the situation have become serious again, and why would the police be keeping an even tighter watch on things?

Why are you asking so many questions?

"I'm just curious," Wen Muxue said with a dry laugh.

"Alright, stop asking. Just stay home for the next couple of days and don't go anywhere."

He paused, then added, "Give me that thing from two days ago."

"What is it?"

The topic shifted so quickly that Wen Moxue didn't even have time to react.

"It was left by my stepmother."

"Oh, wait a minute."

Wen Moxue unlocked the large wooden box, took out a cloth bag, and handed it to him.

Lu Yuan's eye twitched. Was this what she meant by being able to hide things?

That means no one will search the house anymore, otherwise they would find it every time they searched it.

He took the cloth bag, then got up and got off the kang (a heated brick bed).

"I'm going out for a bit, don't leave the door open."
