Chapter 431 Shifting Blame

Song Minghao ignored the group and instead gave the order: "Search!"

Then someone hurriedly unloaded all the luggage from the car and began searching the contents in front of everyone.

Seeing her suitcase being opened, Qin Manman shouted anxiously, "Don't touch my things! What right do you have to go through my things?"

Lu Guoqing also struggled desperately.

"What are you doing? Are you robbers? Why are you touching our things without permission?"

He looked at Guo Conglin and said, "Deputy Secretary Guo, is this how you treat us Hong Kong businessmen? Make them stop and release us immediately, otherwise I will definitely tell Boss Yang about what happened today, and then we can forget about investing and setting up factories."

Guo Conglin was confused and furious. "Director Song, what do you mean by this? Stop it immediately. Boss Lu is a Hong Kong businessman. If you ruin the investment project, you won't be able to bear the consequences."

Song Minghao sneered: "Deputy Secretary Guo, I advise you to keep quiet, otherwise you'll be implicated. Boss Lu? More like a pickpocket!"

"What's the meaning?"

Guo Conglin also realized that something was wrong.

"You'll find out soon enough," Song Minghao said.

Just then, the police found what they were looking for in Qin Manman's suitcase.

"Director Song, the item has been found."

Song Minghao hurriedly took the exquisite little box, examined it carefully, and found that it was exactly as Lu Yuan had described. He then carefully held it in his arms.

He said in a deep voice, "Lu Guoqing and Qin Manman were caught red-handed stealing important drugs newly developed by the state. All relevant personnel have been taken back."

Qin Manman's legs went weak and she slid to the ground.

It's over, it's all over.

Lu Guoqing's eyes darted around, and he shouted, "Let me go! I don't know anything! I've never seen this before, and I didn't make it!"

He pointed at Qin Manman, who was being dragged up by the police, and said, "It was her. She did it all. If you want to arrest someone, arrest her. It has nothing to do with me."

Qin Manman looked at him incredulously, then suddenly realized.

It turns out that his previous instructions to have her and her accomplices pick locks and steal things, claiming it was an important mission, were all bullshit. He was just waiting here in case they got caught so he could escape.

No wonder I didn't ride in the same car as her; I avoided contact with that new medicine from beginning to end.

That's quite a clever scheme.

I thought the other person trusted me wholeheartedly, but it turns out it was all just manipulation.

"Hehe, hehehe..."

Qin Manman looked at Lu Guoqing and smiled bitterly.

"Brother Lu, do you still remember that I was carrying your child in my belly?"

As soon as she finished speaking, tears streamed down her face like beads from a broken string.

Lu Guoqing felt a pang of reluctance when he thought of his children, but it would only be for a second. He had no shortage of children; he just couldn't afford to have anything happen to himself, or he would be truly finished.

“Honey, you’re pregnant now. As long as you tell the truth, even if you’re inside, the police will take special care of you.”

This is implying to Qin Manman that she is pregnant, and even if she admits to the crime, she may still have a chance to be released on bail.

He continued, "Manman, don't be afraid. Even if something happens to you, I will visit you often. After the baby is born, I will take him out and raise him properly. I will definitely give him the best resources to raise him."

"Shut up and behave yourself," Song Minghao yelled.

Lu Guoqing reluctantly shut his mouth, but he had already said what he needed to say. He believed that Qin Manman would bear all the blame for the sake of the child.

Qin Manman gradually stopped crying and numbly allowed the police to take her away.

Song Minghao waved his hand, signaling for someone to take Lu Guoqing away as well.

Finally, he looked at Guo Conglin and the two drivers.

"Deputy Secretary Guo, you should come along too."

Guo Conglin looked very uneasy and was extremely anxious.

"Director Song, this really has nothing to do with us. We really don't know anything. How could I, a deputy secretary, possibly collude with them?"

Song Minghao gave an official smile. "Deputy Secretary Guo, even if we know you are innocent, we still have to go over and give a statement."

Guo Conglin knew he had to go, cursed his bad luck under his breath, and then returned to the police station.

I was practically cursing Lu Guoqing's ancestors to the eighteenth generation in my mind. I thought I had met a god of wealth, but it turned out to be a jinx.

He'd been following this guy around for the past few days, and now that guy's gotten into trouble—and it happened right under his nose—even if he wasn't aware of it, he'd definitely be punished.

Guo Conglin was in a terrible mood and wanted nothing more than to grab Lu Guoqing by the back of his collar and beat him up.

Soon the group was taken to the county public security bureau, and the staff at the other intersections all returned home.

Song Minghao personally interrogated Qin Manman, who was utterly despondent and didn't utter a single word.

Lu Guoqing insisted that Qin Manman had done everything behind his back and that he knew nothing about it.

The two henchmen only said they would follow orders.

"Whose orders should we take?"

"Both of them should listen."

"Who gave you permission to steal the medicine?"

"Qin Manman".

Did Lu Guoqing ask you to steal the medicine?

The two henchmen were very honest.

"No, but he knew that when we went to get the medicine, he was the one who pulled Captain Lu aside and talked to him, trying to stall for time."

The testimonies of the two henchmen were consistent with those of Secretary Guo.

"Before leaving, Lu Guoqing did indeed chat with Captain Lu for quite a while."

"Also, he said he had something to take care of before returning to Hong Kong, but he stayed at Captain Lu's house the whole time and didn't go out to do anything. After he learned that Comrade Lu Yuan had delivered something to Captain Lu's house, he immediately asked to leave."

These testimonies indirectly suggest that Lu Guoqing was involved in stealing the medicine, but there is a lack of direct evidence, so we can't do anything to him yet.

Song Minghao knew he still needed to work on Qin Manman's mindset, but no matter what he said, Qin Manman wouldn't say a word.

Until Lu Yuan arrived.

"How is it?" he asked.

Song Minghao gave a brief account of what happened. Lu Yuan was surprised that Lu Guoqing had such a brain, able to clear himself of all charges beforehand.

But having come this far, how could he possibly allow such a thing to happen?

"I'm going to meet Qin Manman."

"Okay, come with me."

Song Minghao led Lu Yuan to Qin Manman's detention cell.

Upon seeing Lu Yuan, the usually expressionless woman finally showed emotion. She glared at Lu Yuan and said, "It was you! You deliberately framed us, didn't you?"

Lu Yuan smiled and said, "Ms. Qin, you need to provide evidence before you speak."

Qin Manman laughed, "So what if I don't have evidence? You're not going to succeed in scheming against Lu Guoqing."

"It doesn't matter, isn't it because you're willing to take the blame for him?"

You're his mistress, and you're carrying his child. If something happens to either of you, he'll still be devastated. As long as he's suffering, I'm happy.

"If I can't deal with him this time, I'll find another opportunity next time. I have plenty of ways to deal with people. But..."

"But what?"

Seeing that he remained silent for a long time, Qin Manman finally couldn't help but ask out of curiosity.
