As soon as Lu Yuan left the ward, Sun Maodou excitedly came over and patted him on the shoulder.
"Grandpa Liu has woken up. Now the murderer can't escape."
Lu Yuan shrugged, unaccustomed to his familiarity.
"Even if Grandpa Liu doesn't wake up, the murderer won't get away."
Sun Maodou took it as him saying that the murderer would be caught sooner or later, and nodded in agreement.
Wen Moxue understood the meaning behind his words.
"Has the murderer been caught?"
Lu Yuan gave her an approving look; this fake daughter-in-law was really clever.
"Yes, we caught him."
Sun Maodou stared wide-eyed in surprise and asked eagerly, "Who is it?"
Lu Yuan, however, kept him in suspense, asking, "Guess?"
How am I supposed to guess?
Didn't you have someone you suspected before?
Sun Maodou's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.
"Is it really him?"
"Mm." Lu Yuan nodded.
"Who is the other person?"
Lu Yuan frowned slightly, reluctant to speak, but even if he didn't say it now, they would find out soon enough.
"It's Zhang Yuping."
"Damn it, she's your stepmother."
Wen Moxue was also surprised, she didn't expect that Zhang Yuping had an affair with Sun Changsheng.
She looked at Lu Yuan. This was, after all, a shameful family matter, yet he had just blurted it out so casually.
Just as she was wondering whether to offer some words of comfort or say something else, Gao Weishan arrived.
"Comrade Wen, thank you so much for taking the time to come and help with the medicine today. To express my gratitude, I'd like to invite you and your wife to a simple meal at a state-run restaurant after get off work. Would that be convenient for you?"
Wen Moxue instinctively wanted to refuse, but Lu Yuan agreed first.
He realized that Dr. Gao didn't really want to invite them to dinner; he had something else to discuss with them.
The hospital is obviously not a good place.
Gao Weishan was very happy to see that they agreed and left with a smile.
Sun Maodou looked on with envy; being able to eat at a state-run restaurant was something many people dreamed of.
"Tsk, you're in for a treat today. I heard the braised pork at the state-run restaurant is the best."
Slurp, just thinking about braised pork made his mouth water.
Lu Yuan noticed his craving and deliberately said, "Yes, I heard that the braised pork at the state-run restaurant is so fatty and big that when you take a bite, your mouth is full of oil, and the aroma is so enticing."
Sun Maodou kept swallowing, his saliva practically dripping from his mouth. He felt dizzy just listening to this.
Seeing this, Wen Moxue pursed her lips and chuckled to herself. This Lu Yuan was too wicked.
Look how tempting it is!
I bet all they can think about right now is big, fatty, and fragrant braised pork.
The group didn't stay outside the ward for long before Song Minghao came out.
"Uncle Liu still needs Comrade Sun to continue looking after him."
Sun Maodou quickly assured him, "No problem, I'll take care of Grandpa Liu."
Song Minghao nodded and pulled Lu Yuan aside.
“Grandpa Liu has already confessed, and it's the same as what you said before. The people who hurt him were Sun Changsheng and Zhang Yuping.”
“I know Zhang Yuping is your stepmother. She committed a serious crime, and your family needs to be prepared. Grandpa Liu will probably need some compensation.”
Lu Yuan knew this was out of kindness and thanked him gratefully, "Thank you for reminding me. I'll talk to my dad about it when I get back."
Lu Yuan, Wen Moxue, and Sun Maodou entered the ward to see Old Man Liu.
I thought he was asleep, so I tiptoed to his bedside. But the old man wasn't asleep at all; he was staring at the ceiling with his eyes open.
"Hey, I have to say, you're still in pretty good spirits, old man."
When Grandpa Liu saw that it was them, he was about to sit up.
Lu Yuan quickly pressed him down, "Don't move. You just woke up. Don't hurt your old bones again."
"You brat, if you really mess this up, I'll be relying on you from now on."
Lu Yuan chuckled, "Well, you know what, they might really start relying on me from now on."
Grandpa Liu laughed, "Don't worry, I'm clear about right and wrong. It was your stepmother who hurt me, I won't hold it against you."
That's not what I meant.
"Then what did you say?"
“I built a new house on the site of the old abandoned house.”
"What did you say?"
The old man's voice had changed tone; he was clearly very agitated. He was even struggling to sit up.
Lu Yuan quickly pressed him down again, "Don't be in such a hurry. Why are you so excited about my building a new house? Are you happy because you're thinking about having neighbors in the future?"
"What do you mean?" Grandpa Liu asked after calming down a bit.
"I built my new house next to yours, so we'll be neighbors from now on."
Hearing this, Grandpa Liu breathed a sigh of relief.
But still not entirely reassured, he asked, "They built the house next to mine, but is my house still there?"
"Don't worry, it's still there."
But then he changed the subject, saying, "However, I want to discuss something with you. Your house is too dilapidated. I'm thinking of demolishing it and building a room for you in conjunction with ours. You can live with us from now on."
Grandpa Liu paused, "You mean you want to take care of this old man in his old age?"
Could there really be such a good thing?
Surprisingly, someone offered to take care of him in his old age.
Lu Yuan was worried that he would feel burdened, so he tried to keep it as calm as possible.
“You’re an elderly person living alone, and the brigade provides you with subsidies. If you come with us, it’s just a matter of adding another pair of chopsticks.”
Grandpa Liu was moved. This kid was indeed a scoundrel, daring to take an old man like him home.
He looked at Wen Moxue, wondering if his young wife had any objections.
When Wen Moxue saw that she was looking at her, she quickly said, "You don't need to look at me, I have no objection."
Grandpa Liu smiled and said, "Thank you, you young couple. I'll shamelessly follow you from now on."
