Chapter 9 Something's Wrong

When they returned to the Lu family home, none of the Lu family members were there; they must have gone to work.

Knowing he had gone to pick someone up, yet the entire group was absent, it showed they didn't respect their new wife.

Lu Yuan didn't care, and Wen Moxue obviously didn't care either.

"Everyone, please leave. There's no wedding candy."

When he saw that many people were still gathered at the gate, Lu Yuan began to shoo them away.

Seeing that there was nothing more to see, everyone dispersed.

Lu Yuan closed the courtyard gate and began moving things from the cart.

Wen Moxue didn't know which room he lived in, so she stood there examining the structure of the house.

“My room is in the outer room on the east side.”

Lu Yuan carried the quilt and food into the house first, and Wen Moxue followed quickly with the other odds and ends.

Lu Yuan tossed his things onto the kang (a heated brick bed) and said, "I'll go get the boxes."

"Let's lift it together."

The suitcase was quite large, even bigger than the 29-inch suitcases of later generations.

It's a wooden crate again, and it's very difficult for one person to carry it.

"No need, you pack your things, I can manage on my own."

Wen Moxue ignored him and followed him out of the house. She thought to herself that this guy was quite the show-off.

How could someone who never does any work possibly move such a big box?

Huh? Wait a minute!

Is this person really that strong? How did they manage to move it all by themselves?

He seems quite relaxed.

I suddenly remembered seeing his strong arms yesterday. Yes, he looks thin in clothes but is muscular when he takes them off.

He doesn't look like someone who never does any work, and I don't know how he built that muscular physique.

Lu Yuan placed the box on the kang (a heated brick bed).

Wen Moxue asked in surprise, "You want me to sleep on the kang (heated brick bed)?"

In winter, the head of the kang (heated brick bed) is warmer than the foot, so everyone prefers to sleep at the head of the kang.

However, it's still summer, so it doesn't matter which side I sleep on. But once I'm used to sleeping on one side, I don't want to keep changing.

"Yes, you'll be at the head of the kang (heated brick bed), and I'll be at the foot of the

"Thanks."

"You're my wife, no need to say thank you."

Wen Moxue glared at him, "I'm not."

"You are like that in public, so you have to be careful, lest you get used to it and can't change it in the end."

That seems to make sense.

"knew."

"Alright, I'll go return the cart. You pack your things first."

When he returned the cart and came back, Wen Moxue had already packed all her things.

Lu Yuan looked around the small room and saw that there was now a box and some other items, but the addition of a person made it very different.

Even the air seemed to smell sweet.

So this is what people mean when they say there needs to be a woman in the house?

"Gurgle—"

It was unclear whose stomach was growling, perhaps both of theirs, and they laughed awkwardly at each other.

"Haven't had breakfast yet?"

Wen Moxue nodded.

Lu Yuan walked out, saying, "I'll go break the lock."

The food was all locked in Zhang Yuping and Lu Guoqing's room; if you wanted to get some food, you had to break the lock.

Wen Moxue quickly stopped him.

"Never mind, I brought some food with me today, I'll go make something to eat first."

"OK."

Lu Yuan readily agreed. He didn't feel embarrassed about eating her food.

Anyway, this was something the two of them had agreed on beforehand.

Wen Moxue opened her large wooden box, and Lu Yuan glanced at it casually, then his eyes widened in surprise.

He also said that the girl had neatly folded and stacked all her clothes on the kang (a heated brick bed), because it turned out that a large part of the chest was filled with grain.

One cloth bag contained glistening rice, and the other contained fluffy white flour.

Each cloth bag weighs at least 20 kilograms.

Not only that, there were also noodles and eggs, as well as some side dishes. There was also a small oil bottle and some seasonings.

A wooden board separated the area, and another section contained fabrics and inner garments.

Lu Yuan narrowed his eyes; something was wrong.

He just moved this box; there definitely wasn't this much stuff inside.

And surprisingly, none of the eggs inside were broken.

Wen Moxue took out a handful of noodles and two eggs and put them in a bowl.

Then he took out an oil bottle and seasonings.

"Let's cook noodles."

These days, egg noodles are considered a very good meal; this is the kind of treatment that ordinary families give to honored guests.

"Okay, you handle it."

He's a freeloader; even if you give him corn porridge, he won't complain.

Wen Moxue closed the wooden box and locked it again.

He said, “My parents send me money and food coupons every month. I don’t lack food, but I can’t let your family know about this, so we’d better separate as soon as possible.”

"Okay, we'll divide it up when they get back at noon today."

No wonder she was confident enough to say she could support herself. Her parents were both employed in the city, so it's not surprising they could send her food coupons.

But there was one thing he couldn't figure out: why did he feel that so much grain didn't weigh much when it was put in the box?

Could it be that my strength has increased and I've lost control of my weight?

"Come and help me start the fire."

Before I could figure it out, I was called to the kitchen.

Lu Yuan was a bit stumped and couldn't get the fire going after trying for a long time.

"Cough cough cough—"

I even got a nose full of dust.

Wen Moxue sighed, "How come you can't even start a fire?"

Lu Yuan awkwardly touched his nose. "Cough, I used to be able to, but I suddenly haven't been able to these past two days."

"Pfft."

Wen Moxue took it as a joke.

"Okay, I'll do it."

Wen Moxue took out the rough firewood he had stuffed into the stove and gathered a handful of leaves.

"Sizzle—"

I struck a match, lit the leaves and put them into the stove hole, then gathered two more handfuls of leaves and broke off thinner twigs to place on top.
