Lu Yuan took two steps, then seemed to remember something and turned back.
He reached into his pocket, took out a small paper packet, and handed it to Gao Weishan.
"This is the medicine powder my wife brought for you. My wife is very generous; she said she'd just give it to you as a gift."
Gao Weishan looked at the small paper packet, which was only a quarter the size of his palm, and his lips twitched.
"Your wife is really generous."
He carefully put away the medicine packet as if it were a priceless treasure.
When Lu Yuan returned to the health center, Song Minghao and Han Wenzhao from the police station also came with him.
The two police officers came to investigate the situation.
Lu Yuan also shared his suspicions with them, and the two of them agreed that it was most likely the murderer had taken advantage of the situation to commit the crime.
After checking the ward, I asked the medical staff if they had seen any suspicious persons.
Everyone said no. In the end, nothing was found.
Song Minghao said, "I'm sorry, I didn't expect this to happen. The police station was on high alert, and seeing that you had people watching over you, they didn't send anyone to guard you. This was our oversight."
Both police officers felt somewhat guilty.
They are indeed short-staffed, but it is also a fact that the victims have been harmed again, and they bear an unshirkable responsibility.
Lu Yuan understood their predicament. Seeing that they, as police officers, had no airs at all and even took the initiative to take responsibility, he spoke very politely and had a very good attitude.
“Officer Song, Officer Han, how can you blame yourself? Blame the murderer for being too cunning and audacious, daring to do evil in full view of everyone.”
The more he said this, the more the two police officers felt guilty.
Han Wenzhao said, "Thank you for your understanding. I will stay here tonight."
Song Minghao also assured, "We will arrange for people to guard this place from now on, and this kind of thing will not happen again."
Lu Yuan noticed that the two looked exhausted, with dark circles under their eyes, clearly indicating that they hadn't had a proper rest in a while.
After thinking for a moment, he said, "We have two people guarding this place tonight, so Officer Han doesn't need to stay. Besides, the murderer only made his move today, and knowing about Grandpa Liu's condition, he definitely won't make any rash moves tonight."
Song Minghao and Han Wenzhao thought it made sense.
"Alright, we'll send more people over tomorrow."
After seeing the two policemen off, He Shenghua discussed the night watch with Lu Yuan.
"Let's take turns. Which do you take the first half of the night, or the second half?"
There are five beds in the ward, and the other four are empty.
Lu Yuan was already lying on an empty hospital bed when he heard this and asked in surprise.
"Why do we have to take turns? Isn't it your turn to be on duty tonight, and I'm not supposed to be on duty until tomorrow during the day?"
After saying that, he put his arms under his head, closed his eyes, and went to sleep.
He Shenghua was taken aback. Who was it that just said there would be two people guarding the place at night?
Is he here to guard the place? Or is he here to sleep?
What they said seemed to be mostly correct, but for some reason, it just felt strangely uncomfortable.
He snorted inwardly, moved a stool and sat down in front of Grandpa Liu's hospital bed, sitting upright.
Lu Yuan opened one eye to peek, saw what was happening, chuckled to himself, and then closed his eyes again, quickly falling asleep.
I slept without any dreams.
When Lu Yuan woke up, it was getting light outside.
She stretched, feeling refreshed, and saw He Shenghua sitting by the hospital bed just like last night.
I couldn't help but ask, "He Zhiqing, you didn't change positions all night, did you?"
He Shenghua turned around leisurely, startling Lu Yuan.
"Holy crap, how did it turn out like this in just one night?"
His dark panda eyes made him look like a ghost.
"You're finally awake." The tone was very resentful.
He didn't dare close his eyes for a single second last night, fearing something else might happen. He kept his spirits up the whole time.
But this guy slept like a log.
They completely disregard revolutionary morality.
Lu Yuan sensed the resentment in his tone but ignored it; he had no guilty conscience at all.
"Do you want to take a nap at the health center first, or go back to the village now?"
He Shenghua thought for a moment and said, "I'll take a nap here first."
Firstly, I was really tired. Secondly, if I needed help with anything, it would be convenient for him to be here.
"Okay, then you can wait a little longer, I'm going out for a bit."
He Shenghua glared with his big black eyes, about to say something, when Lu Yuan spoke up again.
"I'm so hungry. I'll go get something to eat first. You should eat your fill before you go to sleep."
He Shenghua swallowed back what he was about to say.
Lu Yuan asked, "Do you have food coupons?"
He only had money, not tickets.
He Shenghua nodded slightly, took out two half-jin grain coupons from his pocket, and handed them over.
There's also 50 cents involved.
Lu Yuan didn't lend any money; he only took two grain coupons.
"I have money. I'll have the brigade leader return these grain coupons to you later."
He went to the state-run restaurant and bought six large steamed buns, three for each person.
Only one grain coupon was used.
As for drinks, there is hot water in the thermos in the ward.
He Shenghua carefully put away the returned grain coupons and ate only one steamed bun.
They were clearly not full, but they didn't plan to eat anymore.
He rewrapped the remaining two steamed buns in oil paper and put them in his two pockets, one in each pocket.
Lu Yuan was not surprised.
Nobody has the habit of eating breakfast; they're lucky if they can eat a plain white steamed bun.
The remaining two will probably be saved for lunch.
But he didn't realize this, and he finished off all three small bowl-sized steamed buns with just plain water.
He Shenghua's eyelids twitched as he read it.
Everyone in the village says he's lazy and good-for-nothing, and that's absolutely true.
She can eat three big steamed buns in one go in the morning, she has no restraint when it comes to eating, and she never goes to the fields to earn work points. Who can afford to support her?
