When Lu Yuan said he would move out in a month, he wasn't just making empty promises; he had already planned it out.
He grew up in the mountains and forests, where he was often hungry, and learned to live off the land.
The mountains behind the village are full of wonderful things.
Not to mention pheasants and rabbits, there's no shortage of big guys like wild boars, bears, blind men, and tigers in the deep mountains.
If he's bold and capable enough, he could probably get a new house by venturing into the deep mountains and forests.
"You're going into the mountains?"
Wen Moxue looked at him sharpening his knife and asked in surprise.
"Yeah, let's go into the mountains and get some wild game, then exchange it for some money so we can build a new house and move out."
"But I heard that the back mountain is very dangerous, and there are big guys in there." Wen Moxue said with a worried look.
Lu Yuan thought to himself, he wouldn't have gone if it weren't for the big guys.
However, to avoid worrying her, he simply said, "Don't worry, I'll stay on the outskirts. I used to go up the mountain often, so I know what I'm doing."
Hearing him say that, Wen Moxue felt a little relieved.
"I'll get you some flatbread; you can have something to eat if you get hungry on the way up the mountain."
With no one home and everyone at work, Wen Moxue wasn't worried about being seen making pancakes with eggs and flour.
He made about ten pancakes at once, wrapped five pancakes for Lu Yuan, and even filled a military water bottle for him.
Lu Yuan chuckled and joked, "Having a wife really changes things."
Wen Moxue rolled her eyes. "Stop talking nonsense. Be careful on the mountain. I don't want to be known as a jinx on my first day of marriage."
"Don't worry, I will absolutely not let anyone have the opportunity to say such things about you."
As expected of someone who grew up in the mountains, Lu Yuan was indeed very familiar with them.
His target today is the big fish; he'll put aside the pheasants and rabbits for now.
They headed straight into the deep mountains.
It was getting late, and we hadn't gone too deep. We found a spot and started setting up a trap.
It took nearly two hours to set it up.
He plopped down to rest and took out an egg pancake to eat in big bites.
The fake daughter-in-law makes delicious pancakes; they're big and fragrant.
I felt a little full after eating three.
He carefully put away the oil paper package, then unscrewed the military water bottle and tilted his head back to gulp down the water.
Huh?
The water seemed exceptionally sweet.
He didn't know if it was just his imagination, but the water tasted even better than spring water.
After a few sips of water and putting the kettle lid back on, all the fatigue seemed to vanish, and I was instantly full of energy again, wanting to continue digging holes and making traps.
Just then, a rustling sound came from behind, and Lu Yuan immediately jumped up.
My whole body tensed up, and I entered a state of alert.
"roar--"
A gray shadow rushed towards him like lightning.
Holy crap, the big guys just showed up all of a sudden.
He had been expecting prey to come to him at night, but it came now.
A wild boar that came running around must weigh at least 300 pounds.
The other party seemed to regard Lu Yuan as prey, charging straight at him like a hungry wolf pouncing on its prey.
Startled, Lu Yuan abandoned the water bottle and flatbread in his hands, immediately dropped them, quickly picked up the machete, and went around to the other side of the trap.
He thought that as long as the wild boar kept chasing him, it would fall into the trap he had set.
With only this machete on him, he dared not confront the wild boar head-on.
The only way to catch prey is to use a trap, wait for it to fall in and get injured, then deliver the fatal blows.
But the wild boar seemed to know his plan beforehand, and just managed to stop its footing at the edge of the trap.
Then he arched his nose and inhaled everywhere, as if he were looking for some rare treasure.
Finally, smelling the aroma of the egg pancake, I took a bite and rolled it up with the parchment paper.
Then the pig's snout stopped next to the military water bottle and began to nuzzle it.
Lu Yuan had a toothache. He could tolerate the egg pancake, but why was he even messing with the kettle?
How long has this wild boar gone without water?
He's such a big, living person, yet he's using a kettle instead.
"Hey!"
Lu Yuan greeted the wild boar, trying to attract its attention and make it attack him.
Anyone who comes this way will fall into his trap.
His voice did indeed attract the wild boar's attention, and the big boar looked in his direction.
He gave it only a cursory glance, his eyes full of disdain, then snorted and turned away to continue rummaging through his military water bottle.
Hey, wow, they actually ignored him.
It is aggressive but extremely insulting.
Lu Yuan shouted at him, "Idiot, come here."
The wild boar seemed to understand, but it didn't come over; it just looked up at him and roared.
Then he lowered his head and focused intently on the kettle.
Lu Yuan realized that, at this moment, the water bottle was far more attractive to the wild boar than he, a living person.
He looked around, intending to find a long branch to hook the kettle over.
The people on this side of the trap began looking for suitable branches, as if they were strolling leisurely in their own garden.
The pigs on the other side of the trap were only interested in nudging the military water bottles, as if they had encountered some novel toy.
The two, one human and one pig, seemed to be living in harmony.
The scene was also strangely eerie.
"Thump, thump, thump."
Just as Lu Yuan found a suitable long branch, another large creature came running from not far away.
The sound made the ground seem to shake.
Look in the direction of the sound.
Holy crap, that's incredible!
It turned out to be a bear.
This time, Lu Yuan dared not be careless. It was too late to run away. He quickly climbed up a tree as thick as a bucket, found a relatively secluded and sturdy branch, and lay down on it, not daring to breathe too loudly.
A wild boar was still within his capabilities, but this huge bear was just bad luck.
It looks like we can only go down after those two beasts leave.
