Chapter 11 Difficulties in the Treatment Process

When Chen Yu returned to Grandpa Liu's house with the herbs he had found, Lin Yue was anxiously waiting. She took the herbs and, without saying much, began to treat the wound. She crushed the herbs, added some special juice, and made a new ointment. Then, she gently applied the ointment to Grandpa Liu's wound, every movement filled with caution.

As time went on, Mr. Liu's condition continued to fluctuate. He would sometimes be conscious, sometimes fall into a coma, and his body temperature was unstable. Lin Yue stayed by his bedside, hardly closing her eyes. Her eyes were bloodshot, and her face had turned pale, but her gaze remained firm. She would occasionally wipe Mr. Liu's body with a damp towel, trying to lower his temperature.

The other villagers were also very concerned about Grandpa Liu's condition, frequently peering into the yard to check on him. Some villagers would bring food from their own homes, hoping to provide some nutrition for Lin Yue and Grandpa Liu. An elderly woman came into the yard with a few eggs and said to Lin Yue, who was busy at work, "Child, don't overwork yourself. Eat some eggs to nourish yourself." Lin Yue looked up, her eyes filled with gratitude, "Thank you, Auntie." The old woman smiled and waved her hand, "It's nothing. You're saving the people of our village." The villagers' simplicity and kindness gave Lin Yue warmth and strength during this difficult time.

During breaks in treatment, Chen Yu would sit with Lin Yue in the courtyard for a while. They would silently gaze at the sky, neither speaking. Chen Yu gently held Lin Yue's hand; he could feel her exhaustion and stress. Lin Yue leaned on Chen Yu's shoulder, tears welling in her eyes. At that moment, they didn't need words; their companionship was the best comfort.

However, new problems arose one after another. Grandpa Liu's body began to show some adverse reactions to the herbs, plunging Lin Yue into deep confusion and self-blame. She sat in a chair, her hands clasped behind her head, her brow furrowed. She kept searching her mind for possible causes and solutions. Chen Yu watched her from the side, heartbroken. He gently stroked Lin Yue's hair, trying to give her some strength.

"Is there something wrong with our herbal formula? Or is the dosage incorrect?" Lin Yue murmured to herself. Chen Yu said softly, "Don't worry too much, we can check it more carefully." Lin Yue nodded, cheered up, and rechecked the types and dosages of the herbs. She discovered that the adverse reaction in the elderly woman was likely caused by an excessive dosage of one of the herbs.

Lin Yue immediately adjusted the treatment plan, reducing the dosage of that particular herb and adding some other auxiliary herbs. She prepared a new medicine and ointment for Grandpa Liu and carefully carried out the treatment. Every step was like walking a tightrope, allowing no room for error.

After several days and nights of arduous treatment, Grandpa Liu's condition finally showed some signs of improvement. His body temperature gradually stabilized, and the infection in his wounds was brought under control. A relieved smile finally appeared on Lin Yue's tired face. She watched Grandpa Liu's breathing gradually become steady, her eyes sparkling with hope.

"Grandpa, you must get better soon," Lin Yue said softly, as if Grandpa Liu could hear her. Chen Yu stood behind her, watching her thin figure and Grandpa Liu's gradually improving condition, his heart filled with emotion. He knew how difficult their journey had been, and Lin Yue's perseverance and hard work were like a lighthouse in the darkness, illuminating their path forward.

This experience of treating Grandpa Liu made Lin Yue more deeply aware of the harsh medical conditions of this era, and it also brought her closer to the villagers. She knows she still has a long way to go, but she is prepared to use her medical skills to bring more hope to this village. And her relationship with Chen Yu has become even more unbreakable through these difficulties and challenges, like the ancient and resilient tree in the village, deeply rooted in this land, unafraid of wind and rain.
