The commotion in front of the clinic was like a storm, leaving behind only chaos and devastation. The villagers, with complex expressions, gradually dispersed; some looked remorseful, some were still shaken, and some whispered amongst themselves. Lin Yue stood quietly at the clinic entrance, like a solitary statue, her slender figure appearing somewhat forlorn in the breeze. Her gaze was fixed blankly on the direction the villagers had gone, her eyes empty and weary, as if all her strength had been drained by the chaos.
Chen Yu quietly walked to Lin Yue's side, his eyes filled with tenderness. He looked at Lin Yue's thin profile, her once bright eyes now bloodshot and filled with sorrow, and his heart felt as if it were being gripped tightly by an invisible hand. He gently reached out and grasped Lin Yue's cold little hand, feeling it tremble slightly, like a frightened little bird.
"Yue'er, don't be sad anymore." Chen Yu's voice was deep and mellow, like the warm sun in winter, carrying endless tenderness and comfort. "Those people are just confused for a moment, blinded by rumors. You have done so much for the village, and everyone will understand your goodness sooner or later."
Lin Yue slowly turned her head to look at Chen Yu. Her lips trembled slightly, and her eyes were brimming with tears, like a flood bursting its banks, threatening to spill over at any moment. Her voice trembled with sobs as she choked out, "I really don't understand. I just wanted to help everyone as much as I could, so why are they slandering me like this? Have all my efforts been in vain?"
Before she could finish speaking, tears welled up in her eyes, streaming down her pale cheeks and splashing onto the ground. Each tear seemed to be the embodiment of the grievances and pain in her heart; the sadness of being misunderstood and the heartbreak of being distrusted all surged forth like a raging tide at that moment.
Chen Yu tenderly embraced Lin Yue, holding her tightly as if trying to meld her into his own body, shielding her from all harm. His arms were strong and warm, like a sturdy harbor, providing Lin Yue with shelter in the midst of a storm. He gently stroked Lin Yue's hair, again and again, the tender gesture like soothing a wounded child. He could feel Lin Yue's trembling body, an outward manifestation of her inner pain. He whispered in her ear, "Yue'er, human nature is complex. Jealousy and fear can make some people lose their minds. But you must believe that the truth will never be buried. Your kindness and medical skills are like a beacon in the darkness, sooner or later dispelling all the gloom. You've already done so well; don't let these people's mistakes define you."
Lin Yue burst into tears in Chen Yu's arms. She cried so bitterly, so desperately, as if releasing all the pressure and grievances she had endured over the past few days through her sobs. Her cries echoed in the silent courtyard, a cry against an unjust fate, an indictment of the malicious rumors. The surrounding air seemed to be infected by her sorrow, becoming heavy and oppressive. Chen Yu didn't speak, but simply held her silently, letting her vent her emotions. He knew that Lin Yue was like a bottle filled with bitterness, needing to pour it out to regain inner peace.
After an unknown amount of time, Lin Yue's crying gradually subsided. Like an exhausted child, she sobbed softly in Chen Yu's arms. She looked up at Chen Yu with red and swollen eyes, eyes full of dependence and trust. Chen Yu felt a pang of pain in his heart as he looked at her tear-streaked face. He gently wiped away her tears, his fingers lightly tracing her cheek, his eyes filled with love and tenderness.
"Are you feeling any better?" Chen Yu asked softly, his voice full of concern.
Lin Yue nodded slightly, sniffed, and said in a slightly hoarse voice, "Yes, thank you, Chen Yu. I really don't know what I would have done without you by my side. You are like my pillar, supporting me when I was at my most vulnerable."
Chen Yu smiled, his smile as warm and radiant as a flower blooming in spring: "Silly girl, we are husband and wife, and husband and wife should support each other. No matter how big the storm, I will be by your side and face it with you." His eyes were filled with determination, a resolve to shield Lin Yue from all hardships, a steadfast belief in their love and future.
The two slowly walked into the infirmary. A faint herbal scent filled the room, a familiar aroma that eased Lin Yue's tense nerves slightly. Chen Yu pulled Lin Yue to sit down on a stool, then turned to pour her a glass of water. He handed the glass to Lin Yue; the water inside was steaming slightly, forming a small puff of white mist in the air.
"Have some water. You cried so hard just now, you must be thirsty," Chen Yu said, his eyes filled with tenderness.
Lin Yue took the water glass, her hands still trembling slightly. She took a small sip, the warm water flowing down her throat like a gentle current, soothing her parched and aching heart. She looked at Chen Yu, her eyes filled with gratitude, as if saying, "You are the warmest presence in my life."
"Chen Yu, do you think we'll encounter something like this again in the future?" Lin Yue looked at Chen Yu with some worry, a hint of fear flashing in her eyes.
Chen Yu held her hand; his hand was warm and strong, conveying strength to Lin Yue: "There may be more, but we are not afraid. Our hands are for healing and saving lives, and our hearts are turned towards justice and kindness. As long as we stick to our beliefs and prove everything with our actions, nothing can defeat us. Moreover, after this experience, the villagers will understand the harm of rumors even more, and they will not be so easily misled in the future."
