Chapter 17 Warm Moments at Home

The setting sun cast a golden glow, its magnificent afterglow unfolding gently across the village like a vast scroll painting. Its warm light, like a mother's hand, filtered through the dappled leaves and through the windows of every house, draping the small village in a dreamlike veil. Every house, every tree, every stone seemed to have been meticulously painted by nature's magical artist, bathed in that intoxicating golden hue.

Lin Yue and Chen Yu, having worked all day, were slowly walking back to their lodgings along the path. Lin Yue's steps were slightly dragging, each one feeling as if she were carrying a heavy burden. Although her face was pale from exhaustion, her eyes shone with satisfaction. That day, she had stood before the villagers and educated youth, diligently explaining hygiene knowledge. Although most of the villagers were skeptical, when she saw the curiosity and willingness to try in the eyes of some of them, she felt all her hard work dissipate like morning mist under the sunlight.

Chen Yu walked quietly beside Lin Yue, his gaze never leaving her. He noticed her exhaustion; the deep weariness in her eyes felt like thorns piercing his heart. He knew that Lin Yue had poured her heart and soul into improving the living conditions of the educated youth and spreading hygiene knowledge. Several times he hesitated, wanting to speak, but ultimately he simply moved closer to Lin Yue, wanting to offer her silent support.

When the two returned to the simple yet cozy little house, Chen Yu quickly pulled Lin Yue to the worn-out stool. "Sit down and rest, you must be exhausted today." His voice was gentle and deep, like a babbling brook flowing into Lin Yue's heart. Lin Yue slightly raised her head, looked at Chen Yu, and gave a weak yet sweet smile. "I'm alright, just a little tired. But you know what? When I see everyone starting to show interest in the new hygiene concepts, even just a little bit, I feel incredibly satisfied. It makes all my efforts worthwhile."

Chen Yu sighed softly, his eyes filled with heartache. He turned and walked to the small stove in the corner, squatted down, and skillfully began to boil water. He picked up the firewood beside him and carefully added it to the stove, each piece of wood like his care for Lin Yue, gentle yet firm. The flames danced merrily in the stove, the orange-red flames reflecting on his focused face, casting interplay of light and shadow. Soon, the water boiled, making a bubbling sound, like a cheerful serenade. Chen Yu picked up two rough teacups, put some tea leaves in, and then poured in the boiling water. Instantly, the aroma of tea filled the air, the rich fragrance permeating the entire room, adding a touch of elegance to the simple space.

Chen Yu, carrying two steaming cups of tea, sat down next to Lin Yue. He handed her one cup: "Here, have some tea to warm yourself up and relieve your fatigue." Lin Yue reached out and took the cup. The warmth of the tea spread through her fingertips and throughout her body, making her feel comforted. She took a sip, the warm tea flowing slowly down her throat like a spring breeze, dispelling her weariness. She closed her eyes slightly, enjoying this moment of peace and comfort. After a while, she opened her eyes, looking at Chen Yu with eyes full of love and gratitude: "With you here, I'm so happy. You know, when I was explaining to everyone today, I was actually very nervous, my heart was pounding in my chest. But every time I looked at you, seeing your determined eyes, it was like a reassurance, all the nervousness disappeared without a trace."

Chen Yu held Lin Yue's hand, his hand warm and strong, as if it were Lin Yue's most solid support: "Silly girl, we're husband and wife, I'll always be with you. You did a really great job today. Those hygiene tips are like aliens to the villagers, their reaction has exceeded my expectations. Everyone has seen your efforts, you are the hope of this village." After saying that, he looked at Lin Yue tenderly, their eyes met, and at that moment, time seemed to stand still, the whole world was filled only with the deep love and warmth in their eyes.

Night, like a black ribbon, slowly spread across the horizon, gradually enveloping the entire village. Moonlight, like water, streamed through the windows, casting patches of silver light on the floor, like scattered silver fragments. Lin Yue and Chen Yu remained seated by the window, quietly enjoying this rare tranquility. A night breeze carried the fragrance of flowers and the scent of earth from the fields, gently brushing their faces.

Lin Yue sighed softly, her gaze becoming distant, as if she had traveled through time and returned to the past: "Chen Yu, have you ever thought about our life before? Before coming to this village, we lived in a completely different world. There were skyscrapers, bustling traffic, and everything we were familiar with." Her voice carried a hint of melancholy, as if she were reminiscing about a distant dream.

Chen Yu nodded, his gaze becoming somewhat unfocused. "Of course I've thought about it. Sometimes I feel like it's all a fantastical dream, like we were swept here by a mysterious wind. There's no bustling metropolis here, no convenient lifestyle, but there's a unique warmth." Images of the city's neon lights, the bustling crowds, the flowing traffic, and the towering skyscrapers flashed through his mind. Those scenes were like an old movie, flashing before his eyes.

Lin Yue's gaze drifted to the night sky outside the window. The stars twinkled, like brilliant jewels set against the black canvas of the heavens. They seemed to whisper ancient and mysterious tales. "I remember when I was little, living in a clean and tidy house, with a soft bed and piles of all sorts of toys. When I was sick, my parents would take me to the hospital immediately. There were advanced medical equipment and professional doctors there; everything was so convenient. Unlike here, where we have to rely on ourselves for everything." Her voice trembled slightly, and tears welled in her eyes. The harsh conditions here often reminded her of her comfortable and carefree past, and the contrast brought a pang of sadness to her heart.
