The sunlight, like golden silk, gently spread across the village, which had regained its tranquility. That warm light seemed like nature's comfort to this place that had endured so much hardship; each ray seemed to whisper of the joy of rebirth. The sounds of roosters crowing and dogs barking rose and fell throughout the village, and children's laughter echoed once more in the streets and alleys—everything seemed so peaceful and beautiful.
Lin Yue and Chen Yu walked side by side on the path leading to the stream outside the village. Lin Yue wore a plain-colored dress, which fluttered in the breeze, and her black hair shimmered softly in the sunlight. Her eyes held a tranquility that came after weathering storms, like a deep pool, clear and profound. The slight upturn of her lips carried a sense of ease and contentment, a heartfelt relief after overcoming an infectious disease. Chen Yu, on the other hand, stood tall and walked with a brisk pace. His gaze kept unconsciously falling on Lin Yue, his eyes filled with deep affection and tenderness, as if looking at the most precious treasure in the world.
"Yue'er, look, the village is alive again, it's wonderful." Chen Yu broke the silence between the two, his voice deep and magnetic, filled with a sense of relief.
Lin Yue nodded slightly, her eyes sparkling. "Yes, this period of time really felt like a nightmare, but thankfully, we've made it through. And after this, I feel like our relationship has become even more special." She turned to look at Chen Yu, a sweet smile in her eyes.
Chen Yu grasped Lin Yue's hand, his hand warm and strong, tightly enveloping her small hand: "That's right, this experience has made me even more certain that you are the one I want to protect for the rest of my life. During those most difficult days, every time I saw you working tirelessly for your patients, yet never giving up, I told myself that I must be by your side and support you." His eyes deepened, as if lost in memories.
A warm feeling welled up in Lin Yue's heart as she recalled the days and nights they had fought together. While she was busy in the isolation ward, Chen Yu was always quietly preparing everything she needed, giving her strength and courage. "Chen Yu, actually, whenever I felt like I couldn't hold on any longer, just thinking of you gave me the motivation again. You're like my support, making me never feel alone in this battle against the disease," Lin Yue said, tears welling up in her eyes.
They walked to the riverbank, where the water shimmered in the sunlight, and fish swam freely in the crystal-clear water. Weeping willows lined the riverbank, their tender green branches drooping onto the water's surface, swaying gently with the current. Lin Yue and Chen Yu sat down on a large rock by the river, enjoying this moment of tranquility.
"Yue'er, do you remember when we first discovered the infectious disease? Everyone was panicked then, but you calmed down immediately and started organizing everyone for epidemic prevention. I thought to myself then, this girl is really something else." Chen Yu smiled as he looked at Lin Yue, his eyes filled with admiration.
Lin Yue smiled gently: "Actually, I was also very scared at the time, but I knew that if I panicked, everyone would be even more disoriented. Besides, I was a sent-down youth and had some medical knowledge, so I had a responsibility to protect everyone." She looked up at the few white clouds drifting across the sky, her thoughts wandering.
“During the treatment of patients, there were several critical situations where I felt I couldn’t hold on any longer. Especially those patients whose conditions suddenly worsened, seeing them in pain made me feel really guilty.” A look of pain appeared on Lin Yue’s face, her brows furrowed slightly, and a trace of sadness flashed in her eyes.
Chen Yu tenderly embraced Lin Yue, saying, "Yue'er, you've done so well. Look, everyone recovered in the end, and that's all thanks to you. You're a hero in this village, and you're my hero too." He gently stroked Lin Yue's hair, trying to comfort her.
Nestled in Chen Yu's arms, Lin Yue felt his warmth, and the gloom in her heart gradually dissipated. She knew that Chen Yu had always been the one who understood her best, whether it was her strength or her vulnerability.
In the village, the villagers were also talking about Lin Yue and Chen Yu, the couple. Under the big tree in the center of the village, several women were sitting sewing shoe soles, chatting as they worked. Aunt Liu said with a smile, "Lin Yue and Chen Yu are truly a match made in heaven. If it weren't for them taking the lead during this epidemic, who knows what would have happened to our village." Another woman chimed in, "Yes, I see their relationship has only become stronger after this ordeal. I really hope they can stay this way forever."
On the other side of the village, several young men gathered together, talking about Chen Yu. "Brother Chen Yu is really amazing. During the epidemic prevention, he was busy with everything, preparing supplies and helping to take care of patients," one of the young men said. "Yes, and he's so devoted to Sister Lin Yue. It's truly enviable," another young man replied.
After sitting by the river for a while, Lin Yue and Chen Yu got up and strolled along the riverbank. They would sometimes stop to admire the wildflowers blooming along the river, and sometimes pick up pebbles and throw them into the river, splashing water everywhere. The atmosphere between them was relaxed and pleasant, as if all their worries had been washed away by the murmuring river.
As they walked, Lin Yue suddenly stopped, looked at Chen Yu, and said with anticipation in her eyes, "Chen Yu, after this incident, I think we should start planning our future."
Chen Yu was slightly taken aback, then laughed: "That's exactly what I was thinking, Yue'er. What are your thoughts?" He looked at Lin Yue curiously.
Lin Yue took a deep breath and said slowly, "I think we can live in this village for a long time. Although this place has gone through hardships, I have developed a deep affection for it. We can make this place better and let the villagers live a better life."
