The morning sun, as usual, bathed the village in a soft golden light, tinging every house and every leaf with its golden hue. Lin Yue walked through the village as usual, her gaze falling on the villagers working in the fields, yet a sense of unease crept into her heart. Lately, she had witnessed the children thriving under the new teaching methods and the school's educational endeavors flourishing, but the villagers' health problems remained a constant worry in her mind.
Lin Yue wore a simple white shirt with the cuffs slightly rolled up and a bow tied at the collar, looking neat and tidy yet gentle. Her hair was simply tied back, with a few stray strands falling beside her cheeks and swaying gently with her steps. Her eyes were filled with concern, and her brows were slightly furrowed as she recalled scenes of sick people in the village who did not receive proper treatment. She knew all too well that this village desperately needed a decent medical facility.
She walked to the big tree at the village entrance, a place where villagers often gathered to chat. Several elderly people were sitting under the tree smoking their pipes. When they saw Lin Yue coming, they all nodded and greeted her. Lin Yue smiled and responded, then sat down next to one of the old men.
"Grandpa, how have you been lately?" Lin Yue asked with concern. The old man coughed a few times and smiled, saying, "It's an old ailment, nothing serious. It's just that I'm getting old, and I'm always feeling a bit unwell. It would be great if there was a place in the village where I could see a doctor. Going to town for treatment is such a hassle." A hint of helplessness appeared in the old man's eyes, and his face was covered with wrinkles, the marks left by time, each wrinkle seemingly telling a story of life's hardships.
Lin Yue's heart tightened upon hearing this. She turned to look at the other villagers, who all nodded in agreement. An older woman continued, "Yes, last time my child had a fever in the middle of the night, we could only use folk remedies to bring him down. If only there were a clinic in the village, we wouldn't have to panic so much." As she spoke, the woman wiped her apron with her hand, her eyes filled with worry.
Lin Yue took a deep breath, stood up, and looked at everyone, saying, "Grandpas and Grandmas, I have an idea. We can build a simple clinic in the village, so that if anyone has a headache or fever, they won't have to travel so far." Her eyes were firm and bright, and her voice was clear and loud, echoing under the big tree.
The villagers were taken aback at first, then their eyes lit up with surprise. A young villager said, "Lin Yue, that's a great idea! But building a clinic would require a lot of things, wouldn't it? Can we manage it?" His eyes held both expectation and a hint of doubt. He wore a worn-out blue shirt with patches everywhere, but he looked quite energetic.
Lin Yue nodded: "We do need some things, but we can work together. First, we need to find a suitable place, and then we'll see what materials we need. If everyone thinks this is a good idea, we'll do it together." Her tone was encouraging, and her eyes swept over each villager, hoping to get their support.
At this moment, the village chief, who had been silent until now, walked over. The village chief was a burly middle-aged man with an air of authority, but his eyes also showed concern for the villagers. He looked at Lin Yue and said, "Lin Yue, your idea is excellent. The village really needs a clinic; it's a matter of great importance to everyone's health. Tell me, how exactly do you plan to do it?" The village chief's voice was loud and clear, and his appearance further invigorated the villagers.
Lin Yue looked at the village chief, her heart filled with joy: "Village chief, this is what I'm thinking. We can find a vacant house, or a suitable piece of land in the village, and build a simple hut as a clinic. Then we'll need some basic medical equipment, like stethoscopes, thermometers, and some commonly used medicines. We can raise these things gradually." As Lin Yue spoke, she gestured with her hands, her eyes shining with hope.
After a moment's thought, the village chief said, "There is a vacant house, but it's been in disrepair for years and needs to be cleaned up. As for medical equipment and medicine, that will cost a lot of money." The village chief frowned; he knew the village's financial situation wasn't good, and this was a major problem.
Lin Yue quickly said, "Village chief, we can work together to find a solution to the money problem. We can raise some money from the wealthier households in the village, or we can see if the educated youth settlement has any solutions. If everyone works together, we can definitely solve it." Her eyes were filled with determination; she believed that as long as everyone was united, no difficulty was insurmountable.
After listening to Lin Yue and the village chief's words, the villagers began to discuss among themselves. Some villagers expressed their willingness to contribute, while others offered their own ideas. A young man who had worked in town said, "I've seen the clinic in town; their infirmary has some simple beds. We could set up a few too, so that if patients need to rest, they'll have a place to go." His eyes revealed a hint of excitement; he hoped to come up with a good idea for the village's infirmary.
Another woman said, "We can get the women to bring out some unused fabrics from their homes and make some curtains and bed sheets to make the clinic look clean and tidy." The women all nodded in agreement, and they had already begun to think about how to decorate the clinic.
The village chief was very pleased to see the villagers so enthusiastic. He said loudly, "Since everyone supports it, let's do it! This is for ourselves and for our future generations. Lin Yue, you'll be in charge of this. Everyone will help if needed." The village chief's words gave Lin Yue tremendous support. She felt a greater sense of responsibility on her shoulders, but at the same time, she was filled with motivation.
In the days that followed, Lin Yue began working on setting up the clinic. She and Chen Yu went to inspect the vacant house. The house was located on the edge of the village, surrounded by several large trees, and the environment was relatively quiet. However, the house was indeed dilapidated, with many broken roof tiles and cracks in the walls.
