The morning light filtered through the thin mist, gently bathing every rooftop and leaf in the village, bringing hope for a new day to this vibrant place. However, Lin Yue had no heart to appreciate the morning's beauty. Standing by her window, her brow furrowed, her gaze fixed on the villagers busily preparing to go to the fields. Those slightly weary figures pierced her heart like thorns. She knew all too well that the long hours of strenuous labor had taken a heavy toll on the villagers, and without adjustments, even if the issue of profit distribution was resolved, their quality of life would hardly improve.
Lin Yue wore a plain-colored shirt, slightly faded from repeated washing. Several inconspicuous frayed edges marked the cuffs, signs of her time working in the fields and frequently interacting with the villagers. Her hair was casually tied in a low ponytail, a few stray strands falling on either side of her face, emphasizing her weariness. Her eyes were filled with worry, her mind constantly replaying images of the villagers, drenched in sweat and exhausted, toiling in the fields. In recent days, she had overheard villagers privately complaining about their physical exhaustion and their frustration at neglecting their families, which only strengthened her resolve to adjust their work schedules.
Chen Yu entered the room and felt a pang of heartache upon seeing Lin Yue's condition. He gently walked to her side, placed his hand on her shoulder, and whispered, "Yue'er, don't worry too much. I know you want everyone to feel more at ease. Let's think of a solution together." Chen Yu's voice was deep and gentle, carrying a comforting power. He was tall and muscular, wearing a simple dark shirt that subtly revealed the outline of his muscles, highlighting his strength. His face was tanned a healthy bronze by the sun, and his deep eyes shone with concern and determination, as if telling Lin Yue that no matter what difficulties she faced, he would be by her side.
Lin Yue turned her head slightly to look at Chen Yu, forcing a smile. "I know, but this matter must be carefully considered. Adjusting working hours involves the entire village's production plan, and the villagers have different ideas, so we need to plan it carefully." Her eyes revealed a hint of fatigue, but more so, a seriousness and dedication to this matter.
To gain a deeper understanding of the villagers' thoughts, Lin Yue and Chen Yu decided to conduct a visit to the village. Their first stop was Uncle Zhang's house. Uncle Zhang was an elder in the village, experienced and highly respected among the villagers. When Lin Yue and Chen Yu entered the courtyard, Uncle Zhang was sitting at the door weaving bamboo baskets. Seeing them arrive, Uncle Zhang put down his work and warmly invited them to sit down.
“Uncle Zhang, we’ve come today to talk to you about working hours. As you know, everyone’s been working too hard lately, and we’d like to adjust our schedules. What do you think?” Lin Yue asked directly. She sat on a small stool, leaning slightly forward, her eyes fixed intently on Uncle Zhang, hoping to get some valuable advice from him.
Uncle Zhang frowned, pondered for a moment, and then said, "Lin Yue, I know you mean well. But farming is different from other things; the seasons wait for no one. If we have too much rest time and can't finish the work, that will be a problem." A hint of worry was in his eyes, and his rough hands unconsciously rubbed against his knees.
Lin Yue patiently explained, "Uncle Zhang, we've considered this issue as well. We won't blindly increase rest time, but rather arrange it reasonably based on the actual work situation. For example, we can optimize some work processes to improve efficiency, so that everyone can have more rest time while ensuring the completion of tasks." Her eyes were full of sincerity, trying to dispel Uncle Zhang's concerns.
Chen Yu added from the side, "Yes, Uncle. Besides, everyone is so tired right now, so their work efficiency isn't very high. Taking a proper rest might even increase production." His tone was firm, and his eyes revealed confidence as he described the bright prospects after adjusting the working hours to Uncle Zhang.
Uncle Zhang listened to their words, nodded slightly, and said thoughtfully, "What you said makes sense. However, this matter still needs to be discussed with everyone, since everyone has different ideas."
After leaving Uncle Zhang's house, Lin Yue and Chen Yu visited several other villagers. Some villagers welcomed the adjustment of working hours, feeling it was a good way to relieve fatigue; however, many villagers, like Uncle Zhang, had concerns, fearing it would affect their harvest and income.
During their visit, they came to the home of a young villager named Li Qiang. Li Qiang was sitting in the yard repairing farm tools. When he saw Lin Yue and Chen Yu, he greeted them with a smile: "Sister Lin Yue, Brother Yu, you've come."
Lin Yue responded with a smile: "Li Qiang, we've come to ask you for your opinion on adjusting working hours."
Li Qiang put down his tools and said excitedly, "I think this is a great idea! We're exhausted every day and have no energy to do anything else. If we could have more rest time, I could spend more time with the kids." His eyes shone with anticipation, and his face beamed with longing for rest.
Lin Yue smiled and nodded: "Yes, we just want everyone to be able to take care of their families and have their own lives while working. However, some villagers are worried that too much rest time will affect the harvest. What do you think?"
Li Qiang scratched his head, thought for a moment, and said, "I think as long as the arrangements are reasonable, there shouldn't be any problems. Just like when we used to farm, the methods were different, and the efficiency was much lower. Now that we have new crops, maybe there will be new ways to work that can improve efficiency." His words greatly inspired Lin Yue and Chen Yu. They realized that the key to getting the villagers to accept the new work arrangements was to let everyone see the feasibility and benefits of such arrangements.
