Chapter 65 Infrastructure Construction

The morning sun shone on the village as usual, but today the village was filled with a different atmosphere. Lin Yue stood at the village entrance, gazing at the village that was gradually prospering through the commercial development of new crops, her heart filled with emotion. She knew that as the village developed, the existing infrastructure was becoming increasingly inadequate to meet the needs, and it was time for large-scale construction.

Lin Yue wore a light blue work uniform, stained with mud from her accidental dirt collection during her fieldwork. Her hair was tied in a high ponytail, giving her a neat and efficient look. Her eyes revealed determination and anticipation, and a slight smile played on her lips, as if she could already envision the village's new look after infrastructure improvements. Beside her, Chen Yu was holding a blueprint, studying it carefully, his brow furrowed as if deep in thought. Chen Yu wore a dark jacket over a white shirt, the collar slightly open. His strong physique was faintly visible beneath the clothing, exuding a masculine aura. His face was tanned by the sun, and his deep-set eyes revealed focus and composure.

"Lin Yue, look at this road. If we build it directly from the village entrance to the new crop field, it will be a huge project. We also have to consider going around that low-lying area," Chen Yu said, pointing to the blueprints. His tone was worried, and his brows furrowed even more.

Lin Yue leaned closer, looked at the blueprints, and nodded, saying, "Hmm, that's a problem. But this road must be built, and it must be built well, so that transporting new crops will be more convenient and faster, reducing losses. The location of the warehouse also needs to be carefully chosen; it needs to be convenient for vehicles to enter and exit, and it needs to be dry and well-ventilated." Her eyes were focused on the blueprints, and her fingers traced the routes and possible warehouse locations on the blueprints.

The village chief and several elders came over, and they gathered together to discuss the infrastructure construction plan. The village chief, holding his pipe, tapped the ground and said, "This is a major event for our village; we must plan it carefully. This money can't be wasted; every penny must be used wisely." His eyes were serious, and the wrinkles on his face deepened—the marks of time and hard work for the village. He wore his worn but neat Zhongshan suit, seemingly bearing the weight of the village's history and responsibility.

An elderly villager said, "Yes, if this road is repaired, it will be much more convenient for us to go out. And the warehouse will provide a good place to store our new crops, so we won't have to worry about them getting damp when it rains like before." His eyes revealed his anticipation for the future, and the corners of his mouth turned up slightly, revealing a few missing teeth.

Lin Yue looked at everyone and said, "Let's allocate the funds first. Part will be used for road repairs, and the rest for building warehouses. For road repairs, we need to find professionals to take a look and determine the best route. The warehouse design can't be taken lightly either; we need to consider storage capacity and practicality." Her voice was clear and loud, making her particularly persuasive in the crowd. Everyone nodded in agreement.

Over the next few days, Lin Yue and Chen Yu searched far and wide for suitable construction teams and building material suppliers. They visited several surrounding villages, asking people with construction experience. At a construction site in a neighboring village, Lin Yue and Chen Yu met an experienced contractor.

"You want to repair roads and build warehouses? This is no small project." The contractor looked at them, a hint of doubt flashing in his eyes.

Lin Yue smiled and said, "We know that's why we came to you, someone with experience. We hope to complete the construction with high quality and quantity, and we also hope the price will be reasonable." Her eyes revealed sincerity and expectation as she handed over a simple engineering requirements document.

The contractor took the explanation, looked at it, and said, "Hmm, I need to go to your village to see the actual situation before I can give you an accurate quote."

Back in the village, the contractor, accompanied by Lin Yue and Chen Yu, inspected the road construction route and the proposed warehouse site. As they walked, he shook his head and said, "This terrain is a bit complicated. We need to pay attention to drainage when building the road, otherwise it'll be a problem when it rains. As for the warehouse, the foundation needs to be solid, otherwise it'll easily get damp." His words weighed heavily on Lin Yue and Chen Yu's minds; they knew these issues required serious attention.

After several days of investigation and negotiation, the contractor gave a preliminary quote. Lin Yue looked at the quote, her brows furrowed. "This is a bit higher than our budget. We need to think of some ways to cut costs in certain areas." A hint of anxiety flashed in her eyes; she knew that funds were limited, and every expenditure had to be carefully considered.

Chen Yu comforted her, "Don't worry too much. We can talk to him again and see if there are any unnecessary items that can be adjusted." He patted Lin Yue on the shoulder and gave her an encouraging look.

Meanwhile, the villagers were also having a lively discussion about infrastructure construction. Under a large tree at the entrance of the village, a group of women were chatting while doing needlework.

"I heard they're going to build roads, so we won't have to take those bumpy roads to get to town anymore," a woman said with a smile, her eyes full of anticipation.

“Yes, and there’s also a warehouse. We’ll have a place to store our new crops, and maybe we can even get a good price for them,” another woman chimed in.

However, some villagers are worried that the construction will affect their daily lives. An elderly man said anxiously, "Won't this road construction block our way in and out? What will we do then?" His eyes revealed unease, and his hands trembled slightly.

After learning about the villagers' concerns, Lin Yue and Chen Yu decided to hold a village meeting to explain the infrastructure construction plan and potential problems in detail. On the day of the meeting, the villagers all gathered in the village square, whispering and discussing among themselves.
