Chapter 66 The Hardships of Road Construction

After several days of hard work, the temporary transport road was finally completed, and materials could once again be transported to the road construction site in a steady stream. However, the road construction project encountered a new problem. Continuous rainfall made the road muddy and difficult to navigate, with vehicles and machinery frequently getting stuck in the mud.

"If this rain doesn't stop, the project will really be delayed," a worker complained helplessly, looking at the gloomy sky.

Lin Yue looked at the truck stuck in the mud, feeling extremely anxious. She said to Chen Yu, "We need to find a way to make the road less muddy, otherwise the vehicles won't be able to move at all." Chen Yu nodded, thought for a moment, and then said, "We can lay some gravel and dry grass on the road to increase friction, which might help a little."

So the villagers began their busy work again. They carried stones from the nearby mountains and brought hay from their own homes to spread on the muddy road. The children joined in; though they were small, they tried their best to help carry the hay. A little girl, holding a small bundle of hay, smiled and said to Lin Yue, "Sister, let's cheer each other on!" Looking at her adorable face, Lin Yue felt a warm feeling well up inside her and smiled in response, "Okay, let's cheer each other on!"

After overcoming one difficulty after another, the road construction project continued to progress with difficulty. However, the long hours of intense labor and the tense construction atmosphere caused some villagers' morale to waver. One day, two villagers got into an argument over a trivial matter.

"What's wrong with you? You almost hit me with a rock!" a villager angrily accused.

“I didn’t do it on purpose, why are you shouting!” another villager retorted, not to be outdone.

Hearing the commotion, Lin Yue and Chen Yu rushed over. Lin Yue quickly tried to calm everyone down, saying, "Everyone, please stop arguing. Everyone has been working very hard lately and is feeling a bit frustrated, but we can't let these small things cause us to have conflicts. We're a team, and only by working together can we get the road repaired." Her eyes were full of sincerity, hoping everyone could calm down.

Chen Yu chimed in, "Yes, we're all having a tough time, let's try to understand each other. The project is at a critical juncture, we can't afford to be distracted." With their encouragement, the two villagers gradually calmed down, apologized to each other, and returned to their work.

As time went by, the road construction project was finally nearing completion. However, the final sprint was still full of challenges. The smoothness and compaction of the road surface needed to be strictly controlled, as this was related to the quality and lifespan of the road. Lin Yue and Chen Yu supervised the construction site every day, leaving no detail overlooked.

"This area needs to be compacted a bit more, otherwise potholes will easily appear," Lin Yue said to the worker in charge of compacting the road. Her eyes were focused on the road surface, and she was carefully inspecting it with measuring tools in her hand.

“Okay, let’s roll it a few more times,” the worker replied, then restarted the road roller.

Finally, thanks to the combined efforts of all the villagers, this arduous road was completed. On the day of its completion, the sun shone brightly over the entire village, and the newly built road glittered in the sunlight, like a silver dragon winding through the village. The villagers gathered on both sides of the road, cheering and jumping for joy, their faces beaming with pride and happiness.

Lin Yue stood in the crowd, gazing at the road that embodied everyone's hard work, tears welling in her eyes. She knew this road was not only a passage connecting the village to the outside world, but also a symbol of the villagers' unity and resilience in overcoming difficulties. It carried the village's hopes and would lead them to a more prosperous future. Chen Yu walked to her side, gently took her hand, and the two smiled at each other, their eyes filled with anticipation for a brighter tomorrow for the village.
