Chapter 67 Building the Warehouse

"Hurry up, everyone! We can't let the rain ruin all our efforts!" Lin Yue shouted, her voice hoarse in the torrential rain, but like a sharp lightning bolt, it pierced the chaos on the construction site. Without hesitation, she rushed into the rain, frantically fetching tarpaulins with the villagers. The rain instantly soaked her through; her clothes clung to her body, and her hair was disheveled, but her eyes were fixed only on the unfinished warehouse. Chen Yu also sprang into action, holding onto a corner of the tarpaulin while calling to the villagers, "Don't panic, everyone! Stay calm! Let's protect the important parts first." His eyes were as firm as a rock, a belief that would never waver in the face of adversity, providing the villagers with strong spiritual support.

Thanks to everyone's concerted efforts, the main structure of the warehouse finally stood firm against the wind and rain. This sudden downpour, while causing considerable trouble for the project, also brought the villagers closer together, making them as resilient as steel forged in fire.

Next, the warehouse construction entered the interior decoration and facility installation phase. Lin Yue and several knowledgeable villagers gathered together to discuss the layout of the warehouse's interior. Their eyes were filled with anticipation, as if they could already see the future warehouse filled with the fruits of their harvest.

“We’ve set up tiered shelves on one side of the warehouse to store smaller items and new crops that require special storage conditions. This makes full use of the space and facilitates categorized management,” Lin Yue said, pointing to one wall of the warehouse, her eyes gleaming with intelligence. A villager asked, “What about the other side? Do we need any special design for that too?” Lin Yue thought for a moment and replied, “On the other side, we’ve left a large open space for stacking bags of new crops. This will make transportation and storage much easier.” Everyone nodded in agreement.

“Also, we must install ventilation equipment in the warehouse to ensure air circulation and prevent the new crops from getting moldy. This is crucial for the preservation of the new crops,” Lin Yue emphasized. Another villager asked, “Where would be the best place to install the ventilation equipment? We need to think about this carefully, otherwise it will affect the effectiveness.” Lin Yue frowned slightly, lost in thought. After a while, she said, “We can install some vents high on the walls and in the roof. This will ensure ventilation while preventing rainwater from getting in. Moreover, the location of the vents should be arranged reasonably according to the wind direction and internal structure of the warehouse to ensure that the air can circulate well within the warehouse.”

During the installation of the ventilation equipment, a new problem arose like a ghost. The equipment model was incompatible with the warehouse space, and the original installation plan could not proceed smoothly. Lin Yue looked at the equipment, her brow furrowed, her heart filled with anxiety. It was like a meticulously planned battle, only to suddenly discover that the weapons were not suitable. She and the villagers in charge of the installation sat together, repeatedly studying the equipment manuals and the warehouse design drawings, trying to find a solution.

"Could we modify the equipment a bit? Adjust the direction and size of its air outlet?" a young villager suggested. Lin Yue's eyes lit up, and she said, "That's a good idea, but we need to make sure the modification won't affect its performance or lifespan." So, everyone started experimenting. They carefully disassembled the equipment, making adjustments and testing. After many repeated trials, they finally found a suitable installation method. When the ventilation equipment was successfully installed and started operating, blowing out gusts of cool air, the villagers cheered—the joy of overcoming difficulties.

As the interior decoration of the warehouse progressed, the villagers' anticipation for it grew day by day. During a short break, the villagers sat under the shade of a tree next to the construction site, talking about what the warehouse would look like after it was completed, their eyes shining with hope.

Grandma Wang sat on a rock, a happy smile on her face. "Once the warehouse is built, we won't have to worry about where to store our new crops. We won't be so anxious about rainy days anymore. Before, I couldn't sleep all night on rainy days, worried that the new crops would be ruined by the rain. Now, with this warehouse, we can be much more at ease." Uncle Liu next to her took a puff of his pipe, slowly exhaling smoke, and nodded, saying, "Yes, this warehouse is a real treasure. Maybe we can even store some of our farm tools in there, protecting them from the wind and sun. Those tools are our livelihood, so we have to take good care of them." A young woman, holding her child, looked on with anticipation. "The warehouse will definitely be filled with the fruits of our labor, and just looking at it makes me feel at ease. The children can play around the warehouse, and it will become the liveliest place in our village."

On the eve of the warehouse's completion, Lin Yue came to the warehouse alone. The warehouse was already taking shape; the walls were sturdy, the shelves were neatly arranged, and the ventilation system was operating quietly. Lin Yue walked slowly, her footsteps echoing in the empty warehouse, as if in a private conversation between her and the warehouse. She reached out and gently touched the wall, feeling its solidity.

"It hasn't been easy along the way, but seeing the results now, it's all been worth it," Lin Yue murmured to herself, tears welling in her eyes. Every brick, every piece of wood, every screw carried the weight of the villagers' hard work and their hopes for the future. She remembered the young men carrying materials under the scorching sun, Old Zhang's focused figure as he took measurements, and the scenes of working together in the rain to rescue the villagers. These images flashed through her mind like a movie, leaving her deeply moved.
