Chapter 92 New Forms of Cultural Activities

As the seeds of cultural heritage and innovation were quietly sown in the village and began to sprout under the enthusiastic nurturing of the villagers, Lin Yue eagerly anticipated that they would blossom into even more vibrant and colorful flowers, bearing abundant and plentiful fruits, allowing the fragrance of culture to permeate every corner of the village and seep into the hearts of every villager. Thus, in the season of bright sunshine and gentle breezes, a series of unique cultural activities shone like brilliant stars in the village sky, bringing unprecedented vitality and life to this land, and weaving together a spiritual home filled with joy and emotion for the villagers.

As dawn broke, a pale, fish-belly white tinged the sky, and soft light gently bathed the village square, awakening it from its slumber. Colorful flags already adorned the square, fluttering merrily in the breeze, as if welcoming the upcoming grand festival. Lin Yue arrived at the square early, her eyes sparkling with excitement and anticipation. Today was the opening day of the village's first Cultural Festival, a cultural extravaganza she and the villagers had meticulously prepared for a long time. It aimed to showcase the village's rich and diverse cultural characteristics, promote communication and interaction among villagers, and convey the village's positive and uplifting spirit to the outside world.

With a burst of cheerful and exciting drumbeats, the cultural festival officially began. The first thing to catch the eye was a spectacular folk performance. A group of villagers dressed in brightly colored traditional costumes marched in with neat and powerful steps into the center of the square. They carried colorful fans, handkerchiefs, and gongs and drums, their faces beaming with bright smiles. The performance began. The villagers' movements were skillful and fluid; sometimes they fluttered like butterflies, lightly waving their fans; sometimes they galloped like horses, powerfully striking the gongs and drums; sometimes they were like cheerful birds, playfully twisting their bodies. The entire performance was full of rhythm and beauty, vividly showcasing the traditional folk customs of the village. The audience below the stage was deeply captivated by the wonderful performance, their eyes glued to the stage, frequently erupting in cheers and applause. The children were especially excited, standing at the front, waving their small colorful flags, cheering and jumping to the rhythm of the music. Lin Yue stood to the side, watching the lively scene before her, her heart filled with satisfaction. She knew that these folk performances were not merely a form of entertainment, but also an important vehicle for the inheritance of village culture. They carried the wisdom and emotions of their ancestors and had been passed down to this day through the performances of generations of villagers.

Following the folk performance, a unique cultural and creative exhibition took place. The exhibition was held in a spacious tent next to the square, displaying various cultural works meticulously created by the villagers. There were exquisite handicrafts, such as delicate flower baskets woven from bamboo, lifelike small animals sculpted from clay, and stylish handbags sewn from discarded fabrics; creative paintings, some depicting the village's beautiful natural scenery, others showcasing scenes of daily life, and still others expressing aspirations and longings for a better future; and deeply moving literary works, including poems, essays, and stories, which, with delicate strokes and sincere emotions, narrated the village's historical changes, stories of its people, and cultural heritage. Lin Yue wandered through every corner of the exhibition, carefully admiring each piece. She frequently stopped to exchange ideas with the creators, offering them ample affirmation and encouragement. In one corner, she saw a painting by a young girl titled "The Changes in the Village." The painting depicts the village's former dilapidated houses and narrow roads on the left, and its modern buildings and wide cement roads on the right, all connected by a flowing river, symbolizing the village's continuous development and progress over time. Lin Yue was deeply moved by the painting. She walked over to the girl and smiled, saying, "Your painting is truly wonderful! It not only shows the changes in the village but also expresses a love for one's hometown and confidence in the future." The girl smiled shyly and said, "Sister Lin Yue, I just wanted to paint the village as I see it, so that more people can understand our hometown." Lin Yue gently patted the girl's shoulder and said, "You did it. Your work will allow more people to feel the charm of the village."

Next to the cultural and creative exhibition, a tense and exciting folk competition was underway. The competition featured a variety of events, including traditional tug-of-war, rope skipping, and shuttlecock kicking, as well as local specialties such as rice planting and straw hat weaving. These competitions attracted many villagers who actively participated, forming different groups and engaging in fierce competition. In the tug-of-war, both teams gripped the rope tightly, leaning back and pulling with all their might. Their faces were filled with determination and perseverance, shouting loudly, "One, two, one, two..." The rope tugged back and forth between the two teams, sometimes leaning to one side, sometimes to the other, creating a very tense situation. The surrounding spectators cheered and shouted encouragement for their teams, creating a deafening roar. Lin Yue was also infected by this enthusiastic atmosphere; she joined the spectators, loudly cheering for the villagers. In the rice planting competition, the contestants bent over, skillfully inserting seedlings into the soil. Their movements were swift and precise, as if they were racing against time. An elderly villager, though advanced in years, still displayed remarkable skill in rice planting. As he planted, he imparted his expertise to the younger workers beside him: "When planting rice seedlings, you must pay attention to the spacing and depth. Don't plant them too shallow or too deep; this will ensure a high survival rate." The young workers listened attentively, nodding occasionally, learning the traditional farming techniques of the older generation.
