The joy of a bountiful harvest, like a warm spring breeze, gently wafted through the village. The festive atmosphere seemed to linger in the air, resonating in the hearts of every villager. The warm sun shone down, bathing every corner of the village in a golden glow. The earthen walls and thatched cottages, caressed by the sunlight, appeared exceptionally simple and warm, like kind elders quietly witnessing the village's transformation.
Lin Yue sat on a stone bench in her small courtyard, a gentle breeze ruffling her hair, a few strands dancing around her cheeks. She wore a light blue cotton blouse, the collar and cuffs embroidered with simple patterns—hand-embroidered by herself, showcasing her skillful hands. Her eyes sparkled with a lively light, sometimes gazing at the distant fields, sometimes lost in thought. At this moment, her heart was filled with anticipation for the village's future, a passion akin to that of a child eagerly anticipating new beginnings.
"Chen Yu, we know our lives are getting better and better, but we can't just be busy farming and working. We need to enrich everyone's spiritual life as well." Lin Yue turned to look at Chen Yu, who was repairing farm tools, her voice filled with excitement.
Chen Yu stopped what he was doing and looked up. He had a resolute face, his skin slightly tanned from years of hard work, but his eyes were deep and bright. He wore a faded gray shirt, the lines of his muscles faintly visible beneath, revealing a restrained strength. "What new ideas do you have this time?" he asked Lin Yue with a smile, his eyes full of trust and affection.
Lin Yue stood up, walked to Chen Yu's side, squatted down, and said with bright eyes, "We can organize everyone to rehearse cultural programs! Singing, dancing, acting, and let everyone participate. That way, our village will be more vibrant."
Chen Yu frowned slightly and thought for a while: "This is a good idea, but most of the villagers have never been exposed to these things before. Will it work?" There was a hint of worry in his eyes, but he did not want to easily dismiss Lin Yue's idea.
Lin Yue patted Chen Yu on the shoulder: "No problem! We can start with something simple, and we also have the educated youth here, they can definitely help." Her eyes were full of confidence, as if she could already see everyone singing and laughing on the stage.
Over the next few days, Lin Yue began actively promoting her idea to the villagers. She visited each household, enthusiastically telling them about the joy that the cultural performances would bring.
Under the old locust tree at the village entrance, several middle-aged women were sewing shoe soles. Lin Yue walked over and said with a smile, "Aunties, we have a bumper harvest. Life is getting better and better. I want to organize everyone to rehearse a show together. It'll be so much fun!"
An older woman looked up, her face full of confusion: "A program? What program? We don't understand these things."
Lin Yue patiently explained, "It's just singing and dancing. Everyone can get together and have some fun. Our village will have its own entertainment activities from now on."
The women looked at each other, still hesitant. Just then, Aunt Liu, standing nearby, smiled and said, "I think we should give it a try. Lin Yue's ideas are always good."
At the village's threshing ground, Lin Yue found several young villagers and former educated youth. She shared her idea, and the youth immediately became excited.
“Great! We can teach everyone some modern dances and sing some nice songs,” one of the educated youth said excitedly, his eyes sparkling with youthful energy and a thirst for new things.
The younger villagers were a bit shy. One young man scratched his head and said, "Can we do it? We've never danced before."
Lin Yue encouraged them: "It's okay, we can all learn together, we'll definitely succeed."
Thanks to Lin Yue's efforts, more and more people became interested in rehearsing the cultural performances. Finally, on a sunny afternoon, rehearsals officially began.
The location was chosen in front of the village's ancestral hall, where there was a spacious open space. Villagers came in droves: women carrying children, elderly people leaning on canes, and a group of chattering children. Everyone sat around the open space with curious and expectant eyes.
The educated youth brought a simple radio, which played cheerful music. The music floated in the air, seemingly possessing an invisible magic that drew everyone in.
Lin Yue stood in the middle, clapped her hands, and said loudly, "Everyone, quiet down, let's start rehearsing! Today we'll start with a simple dance."
The educated youth stepped forward and began demonstrating the dance moves. It was a simple and cheerful modern dance, with rhythmic hand and foot movements. However, it proved somewhat difficult for the villagers.
Aunt Liu stood in the crowd, watching the educated youth's movements, her brows furrowed, her face full of confusion: "What kind of movements are these? Why are they so strange?" As she spoke, she tried to imitate them, but her hands and feet were always uncoordinated, causing the people around her to burst into laughter.
An old man was also trying hard to learn; his body was a little stiff, but he was very serious. He muttered, "This is much harder than farming."
Although the younger villagers learned faster than the older ones, they still encountered many mishaps. One young man, while jumping, accidentally stepped on his own foot, almost fell, and looked embarrassed.
Seeing everyone's flustered state, Lin Yue couldn't help but laugh. She walked among the villagers and patiently instructed them: "Don't rush, everyone. Take your time. Just like when we work, we take it one step at a time."
With Lin Yue's encouragement, everyone gradually found their footing. The children learned the fastest; they danced joyfully to the rhythm of the music, their innocent smiles as radiant as the sunshine.
