Chapter 73 I Want You to Be My Husband

Chapter 73 I Want You to Be My Husband

Out of the corner of her eye, she caught sight of that familiar figure, still motionless. Gu Qingxu's thoughts were complicated, but her expression remained cold and indifferent. Without pausing, she simply instructed the servant to close the door.

She doesn't need him to come with guilt, nor does she need him to be her slave out of gratitude.

Sometime during the night, a light drizzle began to fall. Gu Qingxu was alone in the room, the candlelight flickering, casting her long shadow on the wall.

The sound of rain pattering on banana leaves outside the window struck her heart again, and she couldn't help but think of Yi Mingyu again, wondering if he was still stubbornly standing outside the mansion.

But as soon as the thought crossed her mind, she immediately dismissed it. After all, no one would be foolish enough not to seek shelter when it rains.

As night deepened, the rain intensified, and the newly blossoming, delicate crabapple flowers were instantly ravaged by the merciless downpour, their pink petals falling to the ground and turning into mud.

Gu Qingxu had a rare good night's sleep, but as soon as she opened the door, she heard several servants whispering to each other.

"I don't know what Young Master Yi is so persistent about, he's standing at the gate of the mansion again."

I heard that he caught a chill from the rain last night and fainted. It was only thanks to a kind passerby that he was found and taken back to the Yi residence.

Unexpectedly, they've come again today.

As they were talking, the servant guarding the door looked up and saw Gu Qingxu standing not far away, and quickly shut his mouth.

After all, everyone knows about how Young Master Yi came to annul the engagement, which angered the Fifth Miss. How could he dare to talk about Yi Mingyu in front of her again, for fear of accidentally getting himself into trouble?

Did you get caught in the rain? Fainted?

Gu Qingxu's heart tightened. Yesterday's concerns had come true. She hadn't expected there to be such a fool.

Her expression hardened, and she stopped thinking about it. If he wanted to stand there, let him stand there. Anyway, he wasn't in her way. She wanted to see how long he could hold out.

During lunch, Ruan Xingzhu sat opposite Gu Qingxu, eating her food in small bites, glancing at Gu Qingxu from time to time, as if she had something to say but hesitated.

Finally, she couldn't help but whisper, "Fifth Sister, aren't you going to see...Young Master Yi?"

She couldn't help but recall how she would always see Yi Mingyu standing outside the door whenever she reached the entrance. He would just stand there, not saying a word, and not coming in.

Gu Qingxu paused, her chopsticks still, and she silently looked towards the door, lost in thought.

After a moment of silence, she let out a soft breath and said, as if in a fit of pique, "I'm not going."

After all, Yi Mingyu didn't say he was looking for him, nor did he come to his door to ask for him directly, so why should he go out of his way to find him?

Despite thinking this, a strong urge surged within me, and my feet seemed to have a mind of their own, wanting to walk out, but in the end, I was persuaded by my remaining rationality.

Just past noon, the sky, which had looked like it was about to clear up, began to drizzle again, adding a thin layer of fog to the already gloomy sky.

As Gu Qingxu left Ruan Xingzhu's place, she couldn't help but glance outside the mansion when she passed the gate.

As my gaze fell upon it, the white figure reappeared and lingered in my sight.

Yi Mingyu stood there quietly, and although he had been standing there for a long time, he still stood straight without ever slacking off.

A gentle drizzle fell softly on him, forming a mist on his face, but he remained motionless, as if he couldn't feel the slight chill.

Gu Qingxu looked at him, and couldn't help but recall what the servant had said about him fainting in the rain the night before.

Is he really stupid or just pretending? Doesn't he know to take shelter when it's raining?

With a start, Gu Qingxu finally held up the pale pink oil-paper umbrella and slowly walked to the gate of the mansion.

Upon seeing Gu Qingxu arrive, the servant, fearing for his own safety, quickly pushed her away to attend to other tasks.

The drizzle had already dampened his outer robe, and the incessant raindrops rushed to fall onto his shoulders.

Gu Qingxu slowly gazed at him, holding an umbrella, her eyes filled with a complex emotion, but she remained silent.

Yi Mingyu stood there, his eyelashes covered by the drizzle, the condensed water droplets blurring his vision.

In the vast expanse, he seemed to see Gu Qingxu approaching with an umbrella. In his vision, she was dressed in red, tall and slender, with a cool and aloof expression. The pale pink oil-paper umbrella in her hand seemed more like an accessory than a shield from the rain.

Gu Qingxu stood in front of the mansion gate. Seeing that he was still motionless, she couldn't help but let out a soft breath. Her chest rose and fell slightly, her gaze was stern, and her eyes held a hint of scrutiny. She asked softly.

How much longer do you plan to stand there?

Her voice was clear and ethereal, penetrating the drizzle and mist as it slowly entered Yi Mingyu's ears.

Yi Mingyu's ears twitched slightly, and his eyelashes fluttered. His previously unfocused gaze instantly sharpened, and he stared straight at Gu Qingxu.

A look of surprise flashed in his eyes, followed by boundless joy. This was not an illusion; it really was Gu Qingxu. She had really come out.

A hint of panic flashed in his eyes, and his hands unconsciously clenched the hem of his clothes. His heart was filled with unease, thinking that she would no longer pay attention to him.

After standing for a long time, his body was slightly stiff, and every joint felt like it was in shackles, unable to move.

His pale, thin lips moved slightly, his dry lips seemed about to bleed, and his voice was dry and hoarse.

"I promised to serve Miss Gu like a slave, so I'm waiting here for her to speak."

He spoke in a deep voice, with a hint of determination in his tone, as if he were fulfilling some promise, or as if he were making a commitment to his own heart.

A light drizzle fell on his face, and a thin mist seemed to cover his eyes, making it difficult for Gu Qingxu to see his expression clearly.

The dry words reached his ears, and the persistence in his words made Gu Qingxu feel as if something was gripping her heart.

She suppressed the complex emotions in her heart, a hint of suspicion in her eyes, and softly asked, "So you're not planning to leave?"

"Wherever Miss Gu is, I will be there." Yi Mingyu spoke quickly, almost subconsciously, uttering his innermost thoughts.

But after he finished speaking, his arrogance vanished. He felt as if what he had just said had another meaning, and he looked at Gu Qingxu with a somewhat unnatural expression.

The words entered Gu Qingxu's ears with solemnity. For some reason, something seemed to fill her heart, and something seemed to overflow in her eyes. The corners of her mouth couldn't help but turn up slightly, but she quickly stopped and glanced at him.

She bit her lip and said, "He really is an idiot."

Gu Qingxu's voice wasn't loud, but Yi Mingyu still heard it clearly and immediately felt that Gu Qingxu's words contained disdain.

Despite being rejected, Yi Mingyu showed no sign of sadness; on the contrary, he was quite pleased, and the corners of his mouth unconsciously turned up.

As long as Gu Qingxu doesn't try to drive him away from her or make him disappear from her sight, he will be satisfied.

However, Gu Qingxu seemed to have noticed this subtle undercurrent in his heart.

Raindrops slid down the umbrella and landed on the ground, splashing into small ripples, just like the turmoil in Gu Qingxu's heart at that moment.

Gu Qingxu raised an eyebrow, a sly glint in her eyes, and said in a rising tone, "Alright, since you're waiting here, does that mean you'll agree to anything I say?"

She looked directly into Yi Mingyu's eyes, her gaze filled with a hint of probing and testing.

His previously relaxed pupils suddenly focused, and Yi Mingyu's stiff body moved slightly, a barely perceptible hint of pleasure appearing in his eyes.

He restrained his urge to step forward, his feet seemingly nailed to the ground, standing still, his gaze fixed on her, his eyes filled with focus.

"Yes, I will do whatever Miss Gu says."

His tone was somewhat urgent, yet it retained an air of composure and certainty.

The person under the umbrella nodded almost imperceptibly, and took a few steps closer to him, as if making a decision in their heart.

Then, a slight smile played on her lips, and her fox-like eyes met his, carrying a hint of allure. She spoke each word clearly: "Then I don't want to be a slave."

She deliberately slowed her speech, slightly changed her tone, and her gaze held a hint of probing.

"I want you to be my husband."

Her voice was very soft, so soft that it seemed it would vanish without a trace with the drizzle if one wasn't careful. But to Yi Mingyu, it was like a thunderclap, making his head buzz.

His tall frame froze abruptly, as if struck by a spell, his eyes fixed in a daze. Yi Mingyu subconsciously swallowed the dry saliva in his mouth, his throat bobbing.

His hands, hanging by his sides, were clenched tightly, the veins on the back of his hands bulging, and his muscles were taut all over, each muscle like a taut bowstring.

Whether it was from catching a cold or something else, he felt a little dizzy, but his mind was very clear, and he could hear every word clearly.

The rain fell little by little, and Yi Mingyu's clothes were already mostly soaked.

Gu Qingxu's gaze swept over him lightly, then she moved slowly towards him, gently placing the pale pink oil-paper umbrella in the middle to shield him from view.

With a slight curve in her eyebrows, Gu Qingxu raised an eyebrow and a charming smile played on her lips. "Does Young Master Yi intend to go back on his word?"

Her voice carried a subtle allure and a hint of teasing, as if it possessed a magical power that left Yi Mingyu somewhat dizzy.

His pale face flushed slightly, and his body felt hot. Yi Mingyu blinked several times and pursed his thin lips.

His own promise was still ringing in his ears, and he seemed to have run out of excuses.

Without the water vapor, Gu Qingxu saw the panic in his eyes clearly.

With a slight bow, Yi Mingyu looked at her earnestly, his eyes filled with deep affection and determination, and said solemnly, "I will agree as long as Miss Gu says so. I am willing to be Miss Gu's husband."

A gentle breeze lifted Gu Qingsu's crimson skirt, which intertwined with Yi Mingyu's white robe.

A dark current welled up in her eyes, and she took another step forward, so close that they could feel each other's breath, her voice alluring.

"Since I've agreed, shouldn't I accept something in return?"

She tilted her head slightly to look at him, her eyes filled with a hint of expectation and cunning.

Her voice made him dizzy, and Yi Mingyu's eyes were blank. He subconsciously thought about whether to propose marriage.
