Chapter 114 Escape

Shen Qiyin was somewhat surprised: "You haven't left at all, sir?!"

"They left." But they've come back.

Since the incident happened so suddenly, he secretly followed her all the way to the Marquis of Wu'an's residence. After she finished her work, he followed her back as usual.

"...Is there anything else, sir?" As she said this, Shen Qiyin covered her mouth and yawned, her voice full of exhaustion.

So, the words that Xiao Yan was about to say turned out to be: "...No."

"Then please go back and rest, sir. It's already this late."

As soon as he finished speaking, Xiao Yan suddenly reached out his hand to her.

Shen Qiyin looked puzzled, but didn't dare to move.

Xiao Yan helped her remove the small osmanthus flower that had just been thrown on her head. When he took it off, a few strands of hair were caught by the petals. He gently stroked the top of her head with his fingertips, as if to make them "behave".

He explained, "There's a flower."

Miss Shen thought to herself, "Wasn't it you who smashed it!"

He said, "Thank you, sir."

"Come to Qiying Pavilion tomorrow, and remember to look for me."

“…Okay.” She curtsied to Xiao Yan, then calmly turned and left, but unconsciously clenched her hand holding the lantern.

Xiao Yan stood under the tree and watched her return to her room. He watched her figure disappear behind the door, and then the candles in the room went out one by one. His gaze finally fell on the window in the inner room.

He waited until the place was completely dark before leaving.

Chen Qiyin lay in bed, her mind filled with countless thoughts.

Honeysuckle turned to face her and asked, "Sister, what were you looking at when you were standing by the window just now?"

"...There's a cat, see if he's gone."

"oh."

"It's late, go to sleep."

Shen Qiyin tucked the blanket around Ren Dong again, and the latter gave a soft "hmm" and then fell asleep shortly after.

But she was wide awake.

Xiao Yan's arrival tonight subtly shattered her previous perception of him.

She wasn't one to admire herself, but Xiao Yan's words, combined with his previous actions, made her think twice. He probably, perhaps, possibly, most likely had taken a liking to her!

Otherwise, why would he rush over and reveal all his details just because I said I was "not familiar" with him?

They even told her that there were "no concubines"!

Judging from his tone today, he clearly wanted to speak frankly. If it weren't for the incident at the Marquis of Wu'an's residence, this unspoken truth would probably have been revealed.

So she just yawned on purpose, pretending to be sleepy and tired, and temporarily escaped.

Otherwise, if he brings up the old issue again and I haven't figured out a way to deal with it, things might not go well.

Honestly, Shen Qiyin didn't dislike Xiao Yan at all, but that didn't mean she would develop any romantic feelings for him.

But if you were to directly refuse...

She didn't dare.

Given the vast difference in their social statuses, if she were to offend Xiao Yan, killing her would be a simple matter for him.

That night, Shen Qiyin tossed and turned, unable to sleep for a long time.

It was almost dawn when she finally managed to doze off for a short while.

But because I had something on my mind, I couldn't sleep soundly and woke up after a short while.

I didn't eat much for breakfast.

Ren Dong frowned as she looked at her: "Sister, you're not eating anymore?"

"Hmm, I don't feel like eating much." Perhaps because she hadn't rested well, she didn't have much of an appetite.

Fearing that Ren Dong might be worried, Shen Qiyin said, "It's alright, I'll pack some snacks and take them with me. We can eat them when we get hungry later."

"Is she sick?" Honeysuckle reached out and touched her forehead, but it felt cool and not hot. "She's not hot either."

"I suppose it's just that I didn't sleep well last night, it's nothing serious."

"Then you can rest for a while longer."

"Um."

Shen Qiyin agreed verbally, but after breakfast, she still went out.

A very impressive carriage was parked at the entrance of the Shen family's residence.

It was the same car that Xiao Yan had ridden back with her that day.

A gray-clad boy, who looked no more than seventeen or eighteen years old, sat in front of the car door. He had rosy lips and white teeth, and his crescent-shaped eyes smiled even before he spoke, making him look exceptionally endearing.

He sat with his back against the carriage, one leg bent and resting on the frame, the other leg dangling down, swinging gently back and forth.

It had a piece of grass stuck in its mouth, chewing on it listlessly.

Upon seeing Shen Qiyin, it immediately ran towards her with great joy, like a puppy seeing its master.

“Miss Shen!” His eyes sparkled as he looked at Shen Qiyin.

His name is Chu Si, and he is Xiao Yan's bodyguard.

After she pretended to have taken poison that day, the next day when she went out, she found that Xiao Yan had lent her both himself and his car.

At the fourth minute, Chu Si shrewdly stepped forward, took the medicine box, and asked Shen Qiyin with great interest, "Miss, where are we going? Should we go to the Marquis's residence first, or Qiying Pavilion, or Guangrentang?"

“Um…” Shen Qiyin carefully chose her words: “Actually, I’m already better. You can go back and report. There’s no need to…”

Before she could finish speaking, Chu Si looked at her with a "the sky has fallen" expression: "Are you trying to kick me out, young lady?"

"What I mean is..."

"Waaaaah..."

"Get in the car."

"Okay!"

On the fourth day, their mood instantly changed, and they busied themselves happily, putting out footstools and opening car doors.

Worried about further changes at the Marquis of Wu'an's residence, Shen Qiyin decided to go see Wei Heng first.

On the way, Chu Si kept rambling on and on: "There's a reason why I'm clinging to the girl and refusing to leave."

"You don't know this, but our young master doesn't usually have us guards or servants follow him when he's on duty."

“I only followed the young master halfway through his life, unlike those who have served him since childhood. That’s why they always bully me in the mansion.”
