Feng Ruoying was furious when Shen Qiyin publicly called her a donkey.
Enraged, her eyebrows shot up, and she shouted angrily, "How dare you insult me?!"
“Screaming again…” Shen Qiyin took two steps back, looking helpless, and said, “I already said I was scared.”
"you!"
Feng Ruoying was almost furious with those few words.
Seeing the people around her snickering and pointing at her, she instinctively wanted to get angry, but then she remembered Shen Qiyin saying that her voice was as loud as a donkey's, so she quickly shut her mouth.
Seeing this, Shen Qiyin slightly curved her lips and smiled gently.
"Feng Ruoying, haven't you always disapproved of your brother's marriage to me? Now that I've taken the initiative to break off the engagement, you should be happy, so why are you looking so sullen like a little donkey?"
"Or is it that you're actually more than willing to be my sister-in-law, and that your repeated antics with me are just a way to get my attention, and you're actually being coquettish?"
Feng Ruoying was so angry that her hands were trembling.
She thought to herself, "I'm just being all cute and coquettish!"
How come she never noticed before that Shen Qiyin was actually so narcissistic?
When her gaze fell on her stunningly beautiful face, Feng Ruoying couldn't help but admire her, even if she didn't want to admit it. Well, she certainly had the right to be narcissistic.
But she really wasn't being affectionate with her!
She hates her, genuinely hates her, can't she sense it? Or is she not showing it clearly enough?
Shen Qiyin watched with great interest as Feng Ruoying's face changed from white to red, and then from red to green, as if she had been dyed in a vat—it was quite a spectacle.
After he had looked at her enough, she reminded him, "Are you sure you don't want to invite me into your residence to chat?"
As she finished speaking, she glanced meaningfully at the growing crowd in front of the Feng residence.
The discussions were incessant.
"Hey, what's going on?"
"Don't you know? The second young lady of the Shen family wants to break off her engagement with Young Master Feng, and they've already come to our door."
"If you ask me, this second young lady is quite something. The affair between that young master Feng and her half-sister has become the talk of the town. Why not just throw that scoundrel away? Why keep him around for the New Year?"
"I heard that the two of them did their business under the altar, and there's even a Buddha statue on top of it. My third aunt's second maternal aunt's son's youngest daughter's mother-in-law saw it with her own eyes!"
"Tsk tsk tsk... Lord Feng is an upright and honest man, how could he have such a son..."
As Shen Qiyin listened to those words, she raised her eyebrows at Feng Ruoying in a provocative manner, as if asking her: Was it good? Was it exciting?
Feng Ruoying huffed and turned to go into the mansion.
Shen Qiyin curled her lips and stepped inside.
She doesn't really care much about fame, but if it can help her gain some goodwill from the public, she doesn't feel the need to refuse.
Vice Minister Feng was, after all, a third-rank official, and his residence was far superior to that of the Shen family.
A good location is secondary; what's more important is that the land is large and the buildings are more impressive.
The mansion features winding corridors, pavilions, ponds, flowers, and trees, all meticulously arranged.
As Shen Xiyin walked around, she pondered in her heart when she would be able to buy such a large house.
Feng Ruoying arrived at the flower hall first. When she turned around, she saw that Shen Qiyin was admiring the scenery of the mansion. Her previous anger finally dissipated a bit.
She stood at the entrance of the flower hall, straightening her back a bit, and said with great pride, "Ha! You're just a petty person who's never seen the world. Don't let our magnificent and ornate house make you reluctant to break off the engagement."
Shen Qiyin, unusually, did not retaliate.
Only when she passed by Feng Ruoying did she look at her hesitantly, as if she wanted to say something, and then said, "You..."
Feng Ruoying frowned unhappily: "What?"
Has no one ever told you this?
Tell me what?
“Hmm…” Shen Qiyin looked conflicted: “Since no one has ever told you this before, then I won’t say it either.”
After saying this, she calmly took her seat and sipped her tea.
But Feng Ruoying couldn't stay calm.
She rushed to Shen Qiyin, her expression anxious, and asked, "What exactly do you want to say?!"
"nothing."
"But you clearly had something to say just now!"
"But I have nothing to say now."
"you!"
Feng Ruoying was furious.
A tranquil and serene life awaits in this secluded place.
Just as the atmosphere was tense and a major battle was about to break out, a woman's voice rang out from outside the door.
"Ying'er, why are you shouting so loudly? I could hear you yelling from far away. Do you want to ruin your voice?"
As they were talking, a beautiful woman walked in, surrounded by maids and servants.
It was Mrs. Feng.
Feng Ruoying was already extremely upset by Shen Qiyin, and now that her mother also said that she had a loud voice, she couldn't help but think of Shen Qiyin's "donkey theory" from before, which made her feel even worse.
"Mother!" she stamped her foot angrily, "How could even you say such a thing about me!"
Upon hearing the word "also," Madam Feng's brow furrowed slightly: "Who else has said anything about you?"
Feng Ruoying pointed: "Her!"
The woman named Shen Qiyin rose gracefully and bowed elegantly, saying, "May you be blessed, Madam."
Madam Feng turned her head and looked her up and down.
This was not the first time she had met Shen Qiyin.
Back when Feng Heng jumped for joy and wanted to marry her, Madam Feng, out of curiosity, had secretly observed her at her old friend's flower-viewing banquet.
Her looks are undeniably stunning, a perfect match for that unfortunate fellow in her family, who would go through countless twists and turns with her.
What's rare is character.
Although they came from humble backgrounds, they were not timid or sycophantic.
