"Yan Jing, open the door for me, open the door!" Yan Shuangshuang shouted loudly, refusing to give up.
There was still no movement outside.
"Your Highness, please don't upset yourself." Qiuju quickly helped her up.
"Qiuju, where are my troops? Haven't they arrived yet?" Yan Shuangshuang asked, holding Qiuju's hand.
He shook his head in distress. "I don't know why, Princess, your troops have left Yanjing."
"It must have been Yan Jing who did this." Yan Shuangshuang's eyes were bloodshot and filled with resentment.
"Your Highness, what should we do now?" Qiuju was in despair.
Now that Her Highness the Princess is imprisoned and her troops have left Yanjing, they have nowhere else to go.
"Ranran," Yan Shuangshuang murmured, reciting Yun Qingran's name.
“Your Highness, Princess Rongchang and you are indeed close, but Princess Rongchang is far away in Beiyin. She wouldn’t know what happened in Yanjing. Even if she did know, she is just a lowly princess of Beiyin and can’t help us.” Qiuju said, crying in despair.
"Ranran will definitely come to save this princess, and he too, he might come too." Yan Shuangshuang's eyes gradually lost focus. She seemed to remember someone who had been buried in her heart for a long time, but was very special.
"Will Princess Rongchang really come? And who is she, Princess? Is she a very powerful person?" Qiuju asked, wiping away her tears.
"Nobody." Yan Shuangshuang shook her head, then denied herself.
He was the successful and promising Vice Minister Yun, handsome and virtuous. Countless gentle, talented, and beautiful noblewomen would be attracted to him. He might already have met a wife of equal social standing, someone who could help him manage his household.
As for myself, I am merely a random page in the book of his life; once turned, I'll be gone, and we'll never cross paths again.
"Qiuju, can you send the message out?" Yan Shuangshuang decided she would give it a shot.
"There's a dog hole in the lilac vines in the backyard. It's very well hidden, and most people wouldn't know about it. I can crawl out through that hole to deliver a message for Your Highness," Qiuju replied.
Yan Shuangshuang pulled Qiuju to a tree in the yard and started digging. After digging down two or three feet, they found a box.
Qiuju took the box out of the mud pit, and Yan Shuangshuang opened the box with a key that looked like an ornament hanging around her neck.
Inside the box was a bright yellow imperial edict, which read: "By the mandate of Heaven, the Emperor decrees: There is now a Crown Princess Zhaohua, who is exceptionally intelligent and blessed by Heaven. I hereby pass the throne to her, hoping that she will be a wise and benevolent ruler who loves her people. This is my decree."
"Qiuju, please help me send out my father's last edict." Yan Shuangshuang handed the imperial edict to Qiuju.
"Yes, Qiuju will not fail in your mission, Princess." Qiuju accepted the imperial edict with both hands, then asked, "May I ask to whom Your Highness wishes this edict to be delivered?"
"This is for Ranran," Yan Shuangshuang said.
Now she trusts no one but Ranran.
"Yes, Your Highness." Qiuju put the imperial edict into her clothes and tied it to her leg.
"Qiuju, you must be careful." Yan Shuangshuang held Qiuju's hand and told her with concern.
"Princess, don't worry, Qiuju will be careful. Qiuju is going now." Qiuju turned around, went to the lilac vine, and crawled out of the dog hole without looking back.
The Chaoyang Hall was spacious and bright, decorated with carved dragons and phoenixes, exuding luxury. In particular, the dragon throne at the highest position was made of pure gold, gleaming with the alluring glow of power.
Yan Jing stared greedily at the dragon throne, walked step by step to it, and then turned and sat down.
"Ah~" he exclaimed in delight, "Is this what it feels like to sit on the dragon throne? This feeling is wonderful."
He had longed for this position since he was a child, and thought he would never get it in his life. But fate had other plans, and he turned the tables on his luck.
"My lord, would you like to sit down and try?" Yan Jing stood up and asked Wu Yuan, who was standing by the window and had not been attracted by Chaoyang Palace, with a fawning tone.
If it weren't for his lord's exceptional strategy and skillful methods, Yan Jing would never have been able to sit on the dragon throne in his life, and would have been forever subservient to that vile woman, Yan Shuangshuang.
Yan Jing held Wu Yuan in high esteem.
"No need." Wu Yuan turned around and looked at him indifferently.
Yan Jing bears a resemblance to Princess Zhaohua, but Princess Zhaohua is more refined and dignified, while he appears somewhat effeminate.
"Many thanks to Your Majesty for helping me seize the throne. I will remember Your Majesty's great kindness for the rest of my life," Yan Jing said respectfully to Wu Yuan.
"It's good that you remember." Wu Yuan didn't really care whether Yan Jing was truly loyal to him, because as one of the conditions for helping him, he had already placed a Gu poison on him. Once he disobeyed, the Gu poison would take effect, like being pierced by a thousand arrows. He would have no choice but to obey him.
"My lord, why don't you let me kill that vile woman Yan Shuangshuang? Once she's dead, I'll be free of any threat." Thinking of Yan Shuangshuang, Yan Jing gritted his teeth in hatred.
Why was she able to receive the emperor's favor from a young age, and even be named the first crown princess in history, while he, a man, could only be her subject?
“Yan Shuangshuang is the Crown Princess, the most beloved child of the Yan Emperor. If you kill her, you will surely face condemnation from the people and the other three kingdoms,” Wu Yuan said.
Actually, it's because Yan Shuangshuang was Yun Qingran's good friend. She'd probably be heartbroken to see her good friend die.
I would never let her be sad or upset.
"Yes, Your Majesty, I will obey." Yan Jing agreed with a smile, and then began to touch the dragon throne from left to right.
"Your throne is not secure yet," Wu Yuan reminded Yan Jing, who had lowered his guard somewhat.
"Ah! Is there any other problem?" Yan Jing was surprised and worried when he heard him say that.
Even before he had tasted the power, he already longed for the throne. Now that he has tasted the power above all others, his obsession with the throne has been etched into his very bones.
He would never allow anyone to covet his throne.
"You'll find out in two days." Wu Yuan looked in Bei Yin's direction.
Judging by the time, she should be almost in Yanjing by now.
"Ranran, soon you'll be mine, mine alone." Wu Yuan's face revealed a confident smile.
"Kill!" Yun Qingran, dressed in full armor with her hair tied in a high ponytail, wielded a long sword and fought fiercely on the battlefield.
Upon arriving at a town more than 20 miles from Yanjing, their group was ambushed. The ambushers ordered them to retreat immediately or face an attack.
Yun Qingran chuckled and immediately ordered a forced entry, and the two sides began to fight.
Although the ambushing group had the advantage, Yun Qingran and her group were more skilled and advanced with unstoppable momentum, reaching the gates of Yanjing City.
