Chapter 60, Second Match

After the first match ended, the second match began.

"The second competition is a copying contest. We'll see who can write the most characters in a quarter of an hour. The person who writes the most gets twelve points, the second most gets eleven points, and so on until the twelfth person. The twelfth person gets one point, and everyone else gets zero points. The handwriting must not be sloppy; sloppy handwriting will be considered invalid." After Liang Jingxue finished speaking, the maids carried in a small desk with paper, ink, brush, and inkstone on it.

They even hold a competition for copying words? They must have nothing better to do. I really want to find these idle rich ladies an electronics factory job! Yun Qingran silently complained in her heart.

After setting down the small table, Yun Qingran found a place to sit. Then she picked up a calligraphy brush from the table. There were two brushes on the table, one for use and one as a spare.

After checking and finding that the brushes were fine, Yun Qingran asked her maid for a thread and tied the two brushes together.

Just kidding. Back in junior and senior high school, she was punished by copying Chinese characters and English words countless times. Copying characters was a perfect fit for her.

"Begin." Once everything was ready, the maid called out "Begin," and the noble ladies began to write furiously.

The character I copied is "贵" (guì), which has an upper and lower structure and is not difficult to write.

Yun Qingran dipped her brush in ink and began to write, concentrating intently and writing very quickly.

When Yun Xiyue saw Yun Qingran writing with two pens, writing two characters at a time, she felt a little flustered. This little bitch actually thought of using two pens to write at the same time.

Liang Jingxue saw it too, and she secretly cursed Yun Qingran in her heart for only knowing these unorthodox methods.

Yun Qingran sensed the two jealous gazes. She slightly curled her lips and, while flicking her wrist, sent a gust of wind blowing towards Liang Jingxue and Yun Xiyue.

Caught off guard, the two were blinded by the wind, and the papers on the table flew around.

When the wind died down, they looked down and saw that the page they were about to finish writing on had been scribbled on by themselves, and the ink had smudged because the writing was still wet.

This one's ruined!

Liang Jingxue and Yun Xiyue were a little devastated. If this card was ruined, they would definitely be much slower than others.

But there was no time to break down; I could only hurry up and keep writing.

"Fifteen minutes are up, stop writing." The maid reminded them after the incense had burned out.

Everyone put down their pens and started tallying who wrote the most.

Yun Qingran naturally wrote the most. She was a fast scribe, and with two pens at the same time, she copied a total of 1,300 characters in a quarter of an hour. Although her handwriting was not beautiful, it was clear and not sloppy.

Liang Jingxue and Yun Xiyue both failed to make the top twelve because they discarded one card, and received zero points.

"Miss Yun and Miss Liang are having some bad luck. They encountered accidents in both competitions and only have zero points so far," a noblewoman said in a low voice.

"Maybe it's karma. Did you all notice today that Liang Jingxue was intentionally or unintentionally targeting Yun Qingran? And Yun Xiyue, I really didn't feel that she was good to Yun Qingran. On the contrary, I felt that she was always trying to harm Yun Qingran." Another noble lady responded in a low voice.

"Have you all forgotten? Didn't we say not long ago that Yun Qingran went to the casino disguised and was taken there by her? It's clear from the start that she doesn't treat Yun Qingran well at all and even wants to harm her." Another noblewoman chimed in.

"So, Yun Qingran is quite pitiful, being persecuted like this by her own cousin."

These noble ladies live in a backyard filled with intrigue and deceit. Once a clue is revealed, the whole story can be guessed.

"Jingxue, what should we do?" Yun Xiyue was already at her breaking point. She and Liang Jingxue were both at zero points.

"You still ask? Didn't you say that Yun Qingran couldn't even hold a pen, let alone write? Just now, she not only held the pen but also wrote incredibly fast." Liang Jingxue retorted angrily to Yun Xiyue.

Yun Xiyue's face was stiff. She didn't know why this was happening. Yun Qingran really didn't know how to hold a pen, let alone write.

"The poetry gathering is going to be a poetry competition, right?" Yun Qingran said with a light smile.

“Yes, yes, a poetry gathering can’t be without poetry, can it?” a noblewoman chimed in.

Now, in the group of noble ladies, everyone is gradually leaning towards Yun Qingran!

“Yes, the third game was a poetry competition,” Liang Jingxue replied.

"Yun Xiyue, the Yun Qingran you mentioned could never write poetry. Her victory in the last palace banquet competition was purely coincidental. If she wins again, you can forget about ever entering the Liang family again," Liang Jingxue whispered to Yun Xiyue.

Yun Xiyue felt a little flustered. She had been certain that Yun Qingran couldn't write poetry, but after the two matches, she was no longer so sure.

"Speaking of poetry, the poems that Yun Qingran wrote at the New Year's Eve banquet can be described as masterpieces."

"That night when I got home, I copied down the three poems she wrote and framed them."

"Brother, you're quick on the uptake. Have you taken a fancy to Miss Yun?"

"Who among us hasn't taken a liking to her?"

"So what if we've got our eye on her? We're too late. Think about His Highness the Northern Cold King. He treated Yun Qingran differently even before she regained her appearance. Now that she's recovered, who knows how much he'll cherish her?"

"His Highness the Northern Cold King is indeed worthy of being called His Highness the Northern Cold King. I can't beat him in battle or scholarship, and I can't even beat him in taking women."

...

The young masters next door, who were enjoying their tea, were now completely captivated by Yun Qingran, craning their necks to peer through the wall's perforations.

"What is the title of the poem?" Yun Qingran asked.

She's very good at writing poetry!

“Spring is approaching, why don’t we write a poem about spring? We can vote to decide the ranking of the poems, just like the last round,” Liang Jingxue replied.

She had already asked someone to write a poem about spring for her; she was sure she would win this round.

Writing poems about the seasons was a common topic, and the noble ladies were immediately intrigued and began to compose poems.

Liang Jingxue and Yun Xiyue also wrote poems. Their poems were written in advance and were paid a lot of money, so they were naturally better than others.

"Miss Yun, have you finished writing your poem yet? Please." Liang Jingxue urged Yun Qingran, who had not yet composed a poem.

"Then I'll just casually compose three poems." Yun Qingran cleared her throat and began reciting the poems: "On a fine day, I sought out fragrant blossoms by the Sishui River, where boundless scenery was all new at once. I easily recognized the face of the east wind, for spring is always a riot of colors."

Good rain knows its season; it falls when spring arrives. It follows the wind into the night, silently nourishing all things.

"One should pity the footprints on the mossy path, for I knocked on the gate for a long time but it remained closed. Spring's beauty cannot be confined within the garden walls; a branch of red apricot blossoms peeks over the wall."

After reciting the three poems, a moment of silence fell. The imagery, the scenes, and the ideas in these three poems were all remarkably perfect.

Any one of these three poems is a masterpiece, but Yun Qingran composed all three in one go. What incredible talent!
