Chapter 20

Zhang Yansheng didn't go shopping after class. She came back earlier than Zhang Huan today.

As soon as Zhang Huan's car entered the yard, Liang Yingying, who had not dared to go out all day, hurried down from the third floor to greet him. She had a flattering smile on her face, but Zhang Huan didn't give her a good look.

"Tell me, you..." He pointed his finger at Liang Yingying, and with the corner of his eye he saw Zhang Heling leaning on the railing at the corner of the stairs and peeking at her, and he froze.

After all, some things are not suitable to be said in front of children.

"Come up with me!" he said to Liang Yingying angrily.

Liang Yingying followed him upstairs with a blushing look on her face.

Zhang Heling called out "Dad" obediently, and said, "You're back."

Zhang Huan responded, touched Zhang Heling's head, and asked, "Where's your sister?"

"In the room." Zhang Heling said obediently, "Sister studies in the room every day."

Zhang Huan heaved a sigh of relief after hearing this and said, "You have to study hard too."

Zhang Heling nodded: "Yes."

In fact, she does her homework seriously every day, she just doesn't know how to flatter in front of adults. Liang Yingying was going to be mad at this silly daughter. As he walked over, he poked Zhang Heling's head hard with his hand. They think she is stupid and that she can't sell well.

Zhang Huan caught a glimpse of her and scolded her: "What are you doing? Why did you touch her?"

Liang Yingying quickly smiled and said, "Educate her. She must learn to study hard."

Zhang Huan snorted, didn't care, and went upstairs. Liang Yingying followed closely, and before leaving she glared at Zhang Heling and cursed with her mouth, "You're so stupid!", showing her disgust for Zhang Heling for causing her to get scolded.

Zhang Heling bit her lip and lowered her head.

Zhang Yansheng studied for a while in the evening. Feeling tired, he closed the book and wanted to go downstairs. As soon as I walked out of the room, I saw Zhang Heling walking towards her room with her head down. The movement of wiping her eyes...

It must be wiping tears!

Zhang Yansheng paused and walked over to stop her: "What's wrong? Did Zhang Shuocheng bully you again?"

Her sudden appearance scared Zhang Heling.

"No." She was embarrassed to let Zhang Yansheng see her wiping tears, so she lowered her head and said, "Shuo Shuo is playing in the yard."

Zhang Yansheng asked: "Then why are you crying?"

Zhang Heling said: "I didn't cry..." His voice was weak and he sounded powerless.

This sister is stupid and weak.

Later he developed that kind of personality.

Zhang Yansheng pinched her round jaw, lifted her face up and looked at it, sneering: "Who are you kidding? She just cried."

She let go of her hand, and Zhang Heling embarrassedly made circles on the ground with his toes.

"What's going on?" Zhang Yansheng said, "I don't have much patience. Just tell me if you have something to say."

Zhang Yansheng whispered, "My mother poked me in the head just now."

When Zhang Yan heard that it was Liang Yingying, he got angry and asked, "Why did she poke you?"

Zhang Heling was also confused: "I don't know either..."

Zhang Yansheng: “…”

Zhang Yansheng wanted to roll his eyes again.

"Come to my room," she said unhappily.

Zhang Heling obediently followed him to Zhang Yansheng's room.

Zhang Yansheng took out a bag of potato chips, tore it open, stuffed it to Zhang Heling, and asked her to sit on the sofa: "Tell me, what happened? What did you say or do that made her poke you."

Zhang Heling ate two pieces of potato chips, and the grievance in his heart was soothed. He then recounted the situation and conversation that had just happened on the stairs.

Zhang Yansheng understood it as soon as he heard it.

"Your mother thinks you are not doing her any good," she said.

Zhang Heling held the bag of potato chips and lowered his head.

So pitiful.

Zhang Yansheng couldn't bear it anymore and comforted her stiffly: "Forget it, just study hard next semester and get better grades."

Zhang Heling lowered his head and muttered something.

"What?" Zhang Yansheng became impatient. "Can you speak louder? I tell you, if you speak like this, like a mosquito, no one will pay attention to you, and no one will care about you. If you want to say something, say it louder."

What my sister says always makes sense. Indeed, no one in this family paid attention to her, let alone cared about her.

Zhang Heling mustered up his courage, raised his voice, and told Zhang Yansheng: "I am... first in the class and second in the grade."

Zhang Yansheng: “…”

"Huh?" Zhang Yansheng made a surprised sound, "What did you say?"

Zhang Heling flinched, but she had more courage facing her sister than she did with others, and she repeated, "I am first in the class and second in the grade."

Zhang Yansheng blinked.

How come she remembered that this sister...had average academic performance? It seemed like she was ordinary in every aspect, and she had never heard anyone in this family praise her.

Zhang Heling looked at her with a look of disbelief, and hurriedly emphasized, "Really."

"Then why does your mother complain that you are not studying well?" Zhang Yansheng asked curiously.

"She doesn't know..." Zhang Heling became dejected again.

As a mother, don’t you know how your child’s grades are? Zhang Yansheng raised his eyebrows.

"She didn't attend my parent-teacher meeting. The meetings were on the same day as Shuo Shuo's, but she only went to Shuo Shuo's and didn't visit our class," Zhang Heling explained.

Zhang Yansheng said, "Are you stupid? If she doesn't go, you won't tell her?"

"She told me..." Zhang Heling bit her lip and wrinkled the potato chip bag. "She was putting on makeup and she thought I was annoying... She said, I know."

Actually, I know nothing. I probably didn't take anything my little daughter said to heart and was just busy putting on makeup to look beautiful before going out.

"Have you told dad?" Zhang Yansheng asked.

"I did tell him..." Zhang Heling said, "My father just happened to receive a phone call and told me to 'talk to him later', but he went out right after answering the phone."

My sister didn't say anything for a long time.

Zhang Heling had a lot to say, but no one in the family was willing to listen to her patiently.

She took this opportunity to finally find someone and say, "I also received the 'Study Star' award, which is only given to the top three students in the class. There are also 'Positive Star' and 'Friendly Star' awards, which are..."

Zhang Yansheng listened to his sister opening up and talking nonstop. There was a light in her eyes that was not usually seen.

She couldn't help asking, "Where are your awards?"

Zhang Heling said: "It's in my room."

Zhang Yansheng stood up and said, "Come on, take me to see it."

Zhang Heling's eyes lit up and twinkled like stars in the sky.

Those are the eyes of a child who longs to be loved. Once upon a time, there must have been such a light in my eyes, Zhang Yansheng thought, but later, those lights were extinguished in disappointment.

In Zhang Heling's room, the little girl brought out a paper box, which was filled with her treasured collection of award certificates.

Zhang Yansheng looked at the thick stack of award certificates, her report card, and her homework book, and finally had to admit that her memory was wrong. Zhang Heling is not "ordinary" at all, she is a very outstanding girl.

How could such an outstanding girl become so mediocre, timid, silent and cowardly?

Zhang Yansheng held a certificate in his hand, puzzled. She raised her head and met Zhang Heling's eyes, which were eager to be seen, cared for and praised.

Zhang Yansheng suddenly remembered another appearance of these eyes.

Sister, is my mom...really a mistress?

The sister asked, standing in the shadow of the wall.

When she returned home that day, she had another big fight with Liang Yingying. Naturally, what two women say when they quarrel won't be very nice. None of them cared about how Zhang Heling felt.

She went upstairs to get some things and was about to leave. When she walked out of the room, her sister was waiting for her in the corridor and asked this question.

She sneered at the time: Mistress? Isn't it too much of a compliment to call her a mistress?

Her words were like a knife, tearing open Liang Yingying's true face before she became "Mrs. Zhang".

She said: If she hadn't given birth to you, she would have been a mistress...one of them. To be honest, she can enter this family thanks to you and Zhang Shuocheng. Especially you.

She said this because she had occasionally heard gossip from the aunts before.

Aunt Wang, who followed Liang Yingying into the Zhang family, couldn't help but tell others: Do you know how she got pregnant with He He? Let me tell you, one time, I heard her bragging to someone on the phone, saying that she had pierced a hole in a condom, got pregnant, and trapped her financial sponsor. After having a child, even if the man gets tired of her in the future, he will not give up the child and will always give her money to spend.

Since he already had one child, Zhang Huan didn’t care about having another one, so he had Zhang Shuocheng.

Normally a man won’t divorce his wife for a mistress, it’s not like the old house is on fire. A lot of colorful flags flying is the ideal state for men. Liang Yingying was lucky, as Zhang Yansheng's mother had passed away.

So for the sake of Zhang Heling and Zhang Shuocheng, Zhang Huan finally let this woman in.

A mistress became Mrs. Zhang.

That day, after Zhang Yansheng said those words to Zhang Heling, he turned around and left. When she reached the stairs, she looked back.

The younger sister was still standing in the shadow of the wall, with her head lowered.

When Zhang Yansheng went downstairs, he felt a sense of pleasure in his heart.

Liang Yingying will never feel ashamed of her past. Then let her daughter be ashamed of her.

During those years, Zhang Yansheng grew up, learned bad things, and dared to say and do anything. The war between her and Liang Yingying made the family a mess, and the whole house was filled with an unpleasant atmosphere.

At this moment, at this point in time, Zhang Yansheng looked at the little sister in front of him who still had a cute smile on her face, and vaguely understood why she later developed such an unpresentable personality.

In such a family atmosphere, even the best seedlings cannot thrive.

This time, my sister was silent for even longer.

Zhang Heling went from expectation to disappointment, and from disappointment to uneasiness, and began to feel uneasy.

But suddenly I heard Zhang Yansheng ask, "Do you have any scotch tape?"

Zhang Heling said quickly, "Yes."

"Scissors?"

"Yes." "Give it to me."

Zhang Heling brought all the things Zhang Yansheng wanted, but Zhang Yansheng picked and chose from the pile of award certificates, picking out all the award certificates Zhang Heling had earned in school, and said, "Come with me."
