Chapter 16: Too Much Bullying

He Qing suddenly understood why Xue Zhidao was so determined to suppress Gu Zheng and prevent him from achieving success. It wasn't that he was jealous of someone else's talent, but because of Gu Zheng, he couldn't let him rise.

But this kind of anger cannot last long, and it cannot be used as a standard for behavior.

After returning to the palace, He Qing regained her sanity. She sadly realized that in this vast world, there really was no one who could replace Gu Zheng.

No matter how much you grit your teeth, you still have to use him.

He Qing comforted herself by thinking, "When the world is at peace, when everything is settled and the Chu Kingdom is saved, then I will make Gu Zheng pay for his current contemptuous attitude!" Although thinking this way didn't have any substantial effect, after making this decision, He Qing felt much better.

On the way back from the palace gate, she pondered the current situation over and over in her mind.

Although Gu Zheng was abominable, he also reminded her. The Empress Dowager was not her permanent support, and the previous dynasty could not rely solely on Gu Zheng. She had to make some other preparations.

However, she couldn't get rid of the Grand Empress Dowager at the moment, so He Qing went to Yangshou Palace first and reported what she had seen and heard during her day out of the palace. Perhaps it was because she was thinking too much, but He Qing felt that the Grand Empress Dowager's attitude towards her was not as warm as usual.

It was not until she returned to the Wendao Palace that she was finally able to relax. She changed her clothes and lay on the couch, unwilling to get up.

"Master Zhen has not read the sutras today yet." Yuping, who had also changed into Taoist attire and was acting as a Taoist boy, stepped forward diligently to remind him.

"I understand." He Qing sighed, slowly sat up, and suppressed all his emotions in his heart, "Please help me get the scriptures, I will read them here today." There are too many things to do, and it is not the time to be depressed.

He Qing hardly slept that night. He kept looking over the memory and reciting it over and over again to understand it.

The first eighteen years of her life were a waste, and she hadn't learned anything useful. The only book she had read was "The Women's Ring." This meant she was doomed to suffer when talking to others, just like she didn't immediately understand what Gu Zheng wanted to say yesterday.

But He Qing was not convinced. She didn't think she was not smart enough, but simply had not learned these things, so she was a little behind.

For now, the only solution is to make up for my shortcomings with hard work.

She had never felt this sense of urgency before, because there were so many smart people in the world, and she could leave the task of turning the tide to others, and she only needed to take advantage of the situation. But now she thought, why should others listen to her?

A rebellious person like Gu Zheng must have his own ideas about everything and would never listen to her orders.

Even if they listen, they might pretend to obey but actually disobey and try to fool around.

It is not easy to be in a superior position. If you want the people below you to obey you, you must first put yourself in a higher position than them and be wise and resourceful. This way you will not be led by others, ignore important parts, or be fooled.

She would never let anyone look at her with such contempt again.

The result of staying up late is that you are not energetic in the morning. During the car ride to the outskirts of the city to attend the sacrifice, He Qing fell asleep in a daze and had a dream about what happened before his death.

The room, decorated like a new house, was filled with red, and when it was illuminated by candlelight, it didn't feel festive, but rather eerie. She was alone in the room, feeling restless.

At that time, she must have had some expectations for her husband and her future life, right?

But the groom was carried in by two strong maids, his legs seemingly powerless. No amount of powder could mask his haggard appearance and lifeless eyes. The wedding wine was not drunk, presumably out of concern for the groom's health. Even so, after the entire ceremony, the groom could only collapse on the bed, breathing more out than in.

Everyone was in a panic and when they called for a doctor, he was already dead.

The feeling of watching someone die in front of him, feeling cold and creepy, always remained in He Qing's heart and he never forgot it.

He Qing suddenly opened his eyes and found that he was sweating again.
