Chapter 14 Seeking Death
The Jiang family and the Pingyuan Marquis Mansion had been searching for the missing Prince Chen Yan of Pingyuan for more than ten years, but there was no news at all. Now they told her that he was in Kyoto, not far from them. Old Madam Jiang couldn't believe it, and she dared not disbelieve it.
Chen Tang said that the Prince of Jingyang would wake up without any wedding ceremonies, and he really woke up very quickly. Considering what had just happened, they had no choice but to believe it.
Old Madam Jiang was so happy that she was speechless. If she couldn't find her grandson, she would not be able to rest in peace even if she died.
Thinking of how Jiang had appeared in Chen Tang's dream and how she couldn't rest in peace even after more than ten years of death, Old Madam Jiang felt heartbroken. She held Chen Tang's hand and asked, "Does your mother have any other instructions?"
Chen Tang was about to say something, but nodded and said, "The Spring Examination is coming soon. Mother said that my two cousins will definitely be on the list, but they must avoid going to places with water before the Spring Examination."
Before the imperial examination in the previous life, my elder and second cousins were invited by their classmates to go boating on the lake to relax from the tense mood of preparing for the exam. As a result, an accident happened on the boat. The second cousin fell into the water, and the elder cousin jumped in to save him, and they almost drowned together.
Although both cousins were saved, the eldest cousin had an injured arm and couldn't even write properly. The second cousin caught a cold and went to the examination room while sick. He had a high fever and almost died alive.
The two cousins were good at studying, one better than the other. My grandfather and uncle had high hopes for them, but because of a trip to the lake, they both failed the exam.
The second cousin blamed himself for falling into the water, which caused his eldest cousin to get injured while trying to save him, and affected his exam performance. Seeing those who were not as good at studying as his eldest cousin all passed the imperial examination, he became very proud and depressed. He drank to drown his sorrows, and rode home drunkenly, where he fell off his horse and died on the road.
In his previous life, Chen Tang never doubted the death of his second cousin. Chen Xie said that his second cousin died at their hands. He was afraid that his second cousin's falling into the lake and falling off the horse were not accidents.
God allowed her to be reborn. She would not repeat the same path as in her previous life, nor would she let her cousin be harmed by them again.
The Jiang family attached great importance to the Spring Examination, so she specifically reminded them not to go out of the mansion to cruise on the lake, and she was afraid that her two cousins should not even think of getting close to the lotus pond in the mansion.
Chen Tang left the house without permission. She was injured and couldn't stay in the Jiang family any longer. She said, "Grandma, I'm going back today."
Madam Jiang said reluctantly, "It's not easy for you to come here, can't you have lunch with grandma before going back?"
Once I leave, I don’t know when I will see you again.
Chen Tang knew that her grandmother was reluctant to let her go, so she said, "I will come to pay my respects to you often in the future. If I come more often, please don't think I'm annoying, grandma."
Old Madam Jiang was amused by Chen Tang's worry that she would be disliked, and her sadness disappeared. "Grandma only hopes that you can live in the Jiang family, and she will feel at ease when she sees you every day. How could she find you annoying?"
Shen Tang naturally knew this, and leaned on his grandmother's arm affectionately.
Madam Jiang sent the wife of the Yongning Marquis away. She hurried in, but not because the Yongning Marquis's Mansion was plotting against her daughter Jiang Li. Madam Jiang came in and said, "Old Madam, it's rumored outside the mansion that the Jingyang Palace has cancelled the cousin's marriage..."
Although Jiang ignored Shen Xian during her lifetime, saying that the child was not hers and even wanted to strangle Shen Xian to death, and Shen Xian never came to the Jiang family, the Jiang family still loved her.
When she heard that Chen Xian's engagement was broken off, Madam Jiang's face changed. "The marriage between Prince Jingyang and Xian'er was arranged by Old Prince Xie and Old Marquis. Although the wedding was not a success, Prince Jingyang has already woken up. How could the engagement be broken off?"
Old Madam Jiang didn't believe it.
Chen Tang said, "It's true that the engagement is cancelled."
Madam Jiang asked, "Does your grandmother agree?"
My grandmother disagreed, but her opinion didn't count.
Besides, if Prince Jingyang’s Mansion doesn’t cancel the engagement after all this trouble she’s made, she’ll be so angry that she’ll die.
Chen Tang wanted to tell Madam Jiang that Chen Ying was not Jiang's biological daughter, but she held back when the words came to her lips. Her mother hated Chen Ying when she was alive, saying that she was the only granddaughter of the Jiang family, and her grandmother knew it and loved Chen Ying the same way. She had not found any evidence yet. Her grandmother had already stopped contacting with the Pingyuan Marquis Mansion because of her eldest brother. If the Jiang family continued to favor her and not treat Chen Ying as their own granddaughter, the old lady would be even more angry with the Jiang family.
Why should she say it out loud and make things difficult for her grandmother? As long as she was around, no one would bully the Jiang family or take advantage of them.
Chen Tang did not take Chen Xi's broken engagement seriously, and Old Madam Jiang also knew that this matter was not something she could control. Apart from feeling sorry for Chen Xi's broken engagement, there was nothing she could do.
After comforting Madam Jiang with a few words, Chen Tang bowed and said goodbye. Jiang Li and Jiang Ning saw her out of the house.
When leaving, Jiang Ning reluctantly said, "My cousin said she would come to visit grandma often in the future. She didn't lie to grandma, did she?"
It turns out that no one believes her.
Chen Tang shook his head and laughed.
Jiang Ning pouted and said, "I knew my cousin was trying to make grandma happy."
Chen Tang shrugged and said, "If you guys don't believe me even if I tell you, then I can only prove it with my actions."
Jiang Ning nodded repeatedly.
The servant drove the carriage over, Chen Tang got on it, and then went back home.
In the carriage, Chen Tang sat leaning against the carriage, rubbing his knees gently, while Yin Xing was a little worried, "Miss, you came to the Jiang family without permission, you won't be punished when you go back, right?"
"Won't."
The tone was firm.
She followed her father out of Songhe Hall and then left the house. Her grandmother must have thought that her father agreed. She was injured so badly that day, but she was still called to Songhe Hall. Now she has been recuperating for two days. Her father agreed to let her leave the house. Her grandmother did not dare to blame her father, and would not even mention it.
And my father just told my grandmother that he would no longer blame her for letting her leave the house.
Even if the truth is revealed in the end, she can still use her mother as a cover. With the jade pendant hanging around her father's waist, even if she still disagrees with what she said in her mother's dream, it will definitely not stop her from being filial to her mother in heaven.
Besides, Prince Jingyang's palace cancelled the engagement, and both her grandmother and father were in a bad mood, so they had no mood to care about such a small matter as her leaving the palace.
Chen Tang is fearless.
The carriage returned smoothly to Pingyuan Marquis Mansion. Yinxing helped Chen Tang down. However, as soon as they entered the mansion, they received the news that Chen Xian could not bear the humiliation of breaking off the engagement and tried to hang herself but failed.
God knows how much effort Chen Tang had to suppress the urge to roll his eyes to the sky.
It's really useless.
Even someone could be stopped from hanging himself.
Of course, Chen Tang knew that Chen Xi was not really seeking death.
How can someone who doesn't even want to be a widow be willing to die?
It was just a trick to put pressure on my father in order to keep this marriage.
It was Chen Xi who refused to marry, and now it is she who is trying to commit suicide and refuses to cancel the engagement. She is really shameless to the extreme.
But Chen Tang was also happy with Chen Ying's fuss. There was definitely no room for maneuver in the marriage. The more fuss she made, the more likely she would annoy her grandmother and make her disappointed in her.
Chen Tang walked towards Qingyi Garden.
Gingko said, "Girl, don't you want to go see the elder girl?"
Chen Tang asked, "What should I do? Help her hold the stool?"
ginkgo,"……"
