The village head replied confidently, "They can do other things. The boss will never let them go without a single bite of food."
Kang Yueran sarcastically said, "It seems you have already thought of everything for me. Then I'll just let you be the boss of Qingping Manor from now on."
Anyone could tell that this was a mockery, so the village head lowered his head and said nothing more.
Guo Tong said unhappily, "You must do whatever the boss and Manager Xu say. Those who don't want to obey are free to resign."
Mori was whispering, "People in Kaoshan Village said that building a house is easy work, and even a man in his fifties can do it."
Xu Jiushi explained, "That's because six hundred strong men went to work at Heshun Wharf, and the house was almost finished, so there wasn't much heavy work to do."
"If we hire more people and spread the work evenly, we won't be tired anymore."
Guo Tong asked, "That's easy for you to say. Hire more people and pay their wages?"
Mo Lizheng didn't say anything and glanced at Kang Yueran.
Jiang Liuzhu didn't expect Mo Lizheng and the others to say that. He laughed dryly and tried to smooth things over. "Life is lived step by step. It's okay if there are not many people working on it now. It will be fine in a few years."
"The house is built in your Shuangxi Village. Of course you said that. How will we live in the future?"
Jiang Liuzhu was also angry. "Mo Lizheng, what you said is not right. The house was built in our village, but it was not built for us. Anyone who wants to live a good life must work hard. How can they just think about taking advantage of others?"
"Who's just trying to take advantage? You..."
Kang Yueran interrupted him, "Alright! Do as Manager Xu says. If you're of the right age and willing to work, come. I won't force you if you don't want to. But let me be frank: if you come and try to be dishonest, you'll be fired."
She then said to Xu Jiushi, "Come back in three days to count the number of people. Build the brick kiln first. After we plant the sweet potatoes, we'll go to a distant village and recruit some more people to build the house."
Finally, he looked at Guo Tong and said, "I have something else to do. I'll go back first."
It is said that a meeting brings about a certain amount of affection. Guo Tong originally wanted to let these village heads meet Kang Yueran. If Kang Yueran softened his heart, he might take better care of these villagers.
Who would have thought that these village officials were just dreaming, "I'll go with you!"
Jiang Liuzhu stood up anxiously and said, "Don't go. My wife has killed a chicken. Let's have lunch first." He was afraid that the two would get angry and leave, and then not build a house in Shuangxi Village.
Kang Yueran thought of the three skinny chickens in the yard and felt a headache. "No, let's do it another day!"
Guo Tong didn't want to stay any longer. "There will always be opportunities in the future. Let's go back first."
Manager Xu bowed and said, "I will bring my men back in three days and discuss this with Jiang Lizheng in detail then."
Seeing the three of them about to leave, Mo Li made up his mind and knelt down in front of Kang Yueran, crying loudly, "Master, please have pity on us. Our lives are worse than those of the disaster victims."
Kang Yueran replied coldly, "There's always something hateful about pitiful people. That's absolutely true. You're pitiful, you're miserable, that's what you deserve. What does it have to do with me?"
Mo Li was not expecting Kang Yueran to say such a thing. He was stunned for a moment and continued to cry, "Everyone knows that the master is kind. Please help us. We are willing to set up a longevity tablet for the master and burn incense three times a day, morning and evening."
"I don't need it. You can make one for yourself."
Mo Lizheng couldn't persuade Kang Yueran, so he turned to the other village heads and said, "Are you all stupid? Hurry up and ask the boss for help."
The other village heads also knelt down and cried to Kang Yueran together.
Jiang Liuzhu stood aside, not knowing who to persuade.
Gaining sympathy by playing the victim is one method, but begging for sympathy is unbearable.
Kang Yueran sneered, "You are so good at crying, I think it would be more suitable for you to beg on the street. I can't use any of the people from your villages. Just cry slowly, it sounds better!" After that, he walked away.
Xu Jiushi hurriedly followed him out.
Guo Tong kicked Mori Zheng to the ground with one foot, "You idiots!" and left.
The three of them just left, leaving everyone at a loss.
Jiang Liuzhu lost his temper at the other village heads. "I was thinking of you out of kindness, but what are you doing? Who is that? That's the headmistress Kang. She's the one who wiped out the Tiger Gang. How dare you bargain with her? Are you trying to save your lives?"
Mori patted the footprints on his chest, wiped his tears, stood up, and said unconvincedly, "You think you know all this? I've already made inquiries. The disaster victims in the mountain villages don't work hard and get paid well."
Others echoed, "Mo Li is right. The boss is so rich, why can't he just hire more people? We're not freeloaders."
"Even if we eat for free, the boss can still support us."
"Everyone outside says that the boss is kind-hearted, but I think that's all nonsense. There's no one more cruel than her."
"That's right, she has so much money, but she can't help us. She is so cruel."
Jiang Liuzhu grew angrier as he listened. He pointed at the door and roared, "Get out! All of you, get out! Never come to Shuangxi Village again!"
"You think we want to come here? If you hadn't asked someone to invite us, we wouldn't want to come to your shabby place."
Jiang Liuzhu was so angry that his chest felt tight. He clutched his chest and said, "I'm blind, I'm blind. All of you, get out of here!"
Mori was shaking his sleeves and leading everyone away.
Wu ran from the kitchen to the main hall and saw Jiang Liuzhu's pale face, panicking. "Dad, what's wrong with you? What's going on?"
Jiang Liuzhu waved his hands and said, "I'm fine, I'm just very angry. Alas!" He meant well but ended up doing something bad.
