Chapter 2: Weird Family

Kang Hong accompanied Kang Yueran back home.

As soon as they entered the house, Kang Yueran and Kang Youan were covered in blood. Gu, who was cursing and washing clothes in the yard, was so scared that her legs went weak and she knelt on the ground.

Kang Hong ignored her and shouted towards the main house: "Sister-in-law, Youping, Youan, Youan is back."

Zhao in the room recognized the voice of the head of the village and was too embarrassed to curse. She stood up and walked out, saying unhappily, "He came back, so what? And he asked me to open the door for him...ah..."

The other people in the house heard Zhao's scream and came to the yard.

Kang Yueran put Kang Youan on the ground and said, "My father is gone!"

Zhao stopped five or six steps away from Kang Youan and cried, "Youan, if you leave, who will earn money for me..."

She was not that stupid, so she had to hold back the words "Who earns money for me?"

Zhao looked towards the second wife with hatred, "The damned one didn't die, but poor You'an lost his life. You'an, if you were gone, how would I live without you? What would I do for the rest of my life?"

She only has two sons. The eldest son's family can make her happy, and the younger son's family can make money hunting. Now that the one who can make money is gone, she will have to be frugal with the money she saved in the future.

Kang Youping didn't dare to step forward. He held Zhao's arm and cried falsely, "My second brother, you died at such a young age. I am so heartbroken."

He glanced at Zhao out of the corner of his eye. Now that the second son is gone, will his mother let him go hunting to earn money?

He was weak and couldn't do the rough work of hunting, so he had to think carefully about how to deal with it.

Gu imitated her husband Kang Youping's behavior, went over to support Zhao's other arm, and wiped away nonexistent tears with her sleeve. "My second brother is dead, and my second brother's wife is still lying in bed recovering from her injuries. Sigh! What happened to the second house?"

Gu also glanced at Zhao. Ye had woken up, so she had to remind her mother-in-law that Ye had killed her second brother and she must not lie down comfortably.

Kang Yuanhua huddled behind his father Kang Youping, his face filled with worry, "God is really jealous of talented people."

Without his second uncle, there was no one to earn money to pay his tuition. If he couldn't study, how could he possibly pass the imperial examinations and become an official? Wouldn't his talent be wasted? Such talent is truly envied by heaven!

The four of them cried loudly, but their acting was terrible. Their calculations were clearly written all over their faces, as if they were afraid that others wouldn't notice.

Kang Yueran lowered her head to look at the original owner's two younger brothers, ten-year-old Kang Yuanfeng and five-year-old Kang Yuanhao. They were kneeling beside Kang Youan and crying breathlessly.

The only one who didn't come to the yard was their mother, Ye.

Ye was hit on the head by Zhao and was unconscious for two days. After waking up, she was a little stupid and is now lying in bed recovering from her injuries.

Kang Hong interrupted the four people's performance impatiently, "Youping, your father is gone, and now your second brother is gone too. You are almost forty years old, and it's time for you to stand up for yourself."

Kang Yueran spoke first: "Grandpa Lizheng, I'd like to trouble you to help take care of my father's funeral affairs."

She was not confident in handing it over to Kang Youping.

Kang Hong was well aware of the family's situation. He recalled how Kang Youan had saved his eldest son's life in the mountains a few years ago, and he couldn't say no. "Okay, let's go to town tomorrow and buy a thin coffin."

Zhao was no longer sad. "A thin coffin? Even You'an's father didn't use a thin coffin. You'an is a son, it's not good for him to go beyond his father's." A thin coffin would cost at least two taels of silver.

Kang Hong glared at Zhao. "Your family has relied on You'an and Yueran to make money hunting for years. What's going on? Now that You'an is gone, you can't even bear to give up a thin coffin?"

"It's not that I can't bear to leave!"

Kang Yueran said, "Grandma, how much do you plan to spend on my father's funeral? Tell us so we can make the arrangements as you say."

Zhao lowered her head and thought for a while. "You'an's father spent two taels at that time. It's not easy for You'an to go beyond his father, so let's do the same."

The ancients valued death more than rebirth and placed great importance on their afterlife. "My father had been hunting with fellow villagers since he was fifteen, earning more than three or four hundred taels of silver. After his death, my grandmother gave him two taels of silver as a favor. What a loving mother!

Zhao could tell that Kang Yueran was mocking her.

"You silly girl, it's not your turn to make the decision at home!"

Kang Yueran snorted coldly, then turned to Kang Hong and said, "There are still two rabbits my father shot on the mountain. I'll go pick them up and have Brother Yuanchen take them to town to sell them for some money. We can use it for my father's funeral."

The wild boar is also on the mountain, and only she knows its location.

Kang Hong glanced at Zhao and said, "Okay, I'll use it for your father's funeral."

Kang Yueran helped Kang Yuanfeng up and said, "Don't cry, take care of Yuanhao and mother."

After hearing her say this, Kang Hong realized that Kang Yueran seemed to have never cried.

Meeting Kang Hong's puzzled gaze, Kang Yueran gave a bitter smile and said, "What's the use of crying? There are five of us in our family, one dead, two injured, and two children. Crying won't bring us a good life. Grandpa Lizheng, I'm sorry to bother you. I'm going to the mountain first."

Kang Hong nodded and said, "Good boy, wash your face and change your clothes before going!"

Kang Yueran fetched some water and went into her room. After closing the door, she entered the space and bought a bottle of hydrogen peroxide from the space mall.

Hydrogen peroxide is transparent and cannot be seen when applied. It also has the functions of cleaning, disinfecting and sterilizing.

There was mud and dried blood on the wound on her forehead. She carefully cleaned it bit by bit with a cotton swab dipped in hydrogen peroxide in front of the mirror.

She first went to find Kang Yuanchen and asked Kang Yuanchen to wait for her at the foot of the mountain later.

Then one person walked up the mountain while sorting out the original owner's memories in his mind.

For more than two months, it has been raining almost continuously throughout Anzhou Prefecture, with light rain, heavy rain and a few rainstorms.

The wheat was killed by waterlogging, the land was turned into ponds and could not be cultivated, and even the adobe houses that many people had lived in for years were washed away by the rain.

A poor harvest means that food prices will rise, and every family will have to live frugally.

The same goes for Kang Yueran's family.

During dinner two days ago, Kang Yuanhao said he was not full, so Ye gave Kang Yuanhao half of her own pancake.

Gu then instigated Ye by saying that Ye was dissatisfied with Zhao's distribution. Zhao was furious and slapped Ye to the ground. The back of Ye's head hit a stone and she fainted.

Ye was unconscious for two days and her mind was confused when she woke up.

Kang Youan and Kang Yueran were helping to repair the house of Zhao's younger brother at the time. It was Kang Yuanchen from the same village who secretly called the father and daughter back.

The Kang family did not split up, and all the money and grain were in the hands of the Zhao family.

Kang Youan wanted to hire a doctor, but Zhao was reluctant to spend the money, so the two had a quarrel.

So, Kang Youan took Kang Yueran to the mountains to hunt, hoping to get the silver to use for Ye's medical treatment, which led to the scene today.

Kang Yueran was walking alone into the mountains when a wolf howl suddenly interrupted her wandering thoughts. She stopped and climbed up the nearest tree.

She looked around from her perch. The wild boar was not far away, and there was only one wolf. What should she do? Kill it? Or run?
