Chapter 64: Dog

Chapter 64: Dog

"What are you looking at?"

Song stayed outside for a long time. Wen saw her, scattered the last handful of cornmeal in the small basin onto the ground, and glared at Song.

"Why, some people are born in the year of the dog, and they run over here when they smell something?"

Wen shouted.

Song shrank her neck.

This Wen was not someone she could afford to offend. Even though she was old now, looking at the fierceness on her face, if she got angry, she could still beat Song down.

Once upon a time, in the spring, Song was greedy and picked a toon bud that grew on a branch of a tree outside Wen's house. Wen chased her for two blocks and even emptied the contents of her chamber pot at her doorstep every night. Even when Song had no choice but to return the toon bud, Wen still scratched him in the face.

The Song family was really afraid of such a Wen family.

"I was just passing by, hehe..." Song laughed awkwardly twice. She didn't dare to stay here any longer and hurriedly pulled Zhuang Qinghe and Zhuang Yuanzhong to go to the fields to work.

What a bastard! Wen spat, closed the courtyard door, and went back to the house.

The weather today is excellent.

The so-called excellent does not mean bright sunshine. After all, in this warm spring day, if the sun is always strong, it will make people feel too hot. The cloudy weather at this moment is warm but not too hot, with a slight breeze, which feels just right.

In such weather, many people go out, and Zhuang Qingning's tofu stall business is also very good.

The tofu was eaten piece by piece, and it was almost finished.

When the last piece of tofu was sold, Zhuang Qingning started to pack up.

"Is there any tofu left?" An old woman with white hair, who looked older than Liu, walked slowly towards her with a hunched back.

"Unfortunately, they are sold out." Zhuang Qingning said apologetically, "Come back tomorrow."

"All right." The old woman sighed deeply, shook her head and said, "I come all day and can't buy it all day. Since it's out of stock, I'll buy it tomorrow."

"Hey, please come back tomorrow." Zhuang Qingning said with a smile, "Please drive slowly."

"Okay." The old woman responded with a smile: "You are such a sweet-talker, little girl. What you say is pleasant to hear."

"But don't worry about it. My house is just ahead. It's very close. You can get there in two steps."

"It's just that I'm the only one at home. Ever since the old man passed away, the children have been busy with this and that, and they don't even bother to come back from the county town. Sigh..."

Perhaps she is an empty-nest elderly and no one talks to her for a long time. So when she meets someone, she starts talking a lot, even telling others about things at home.

Zhuang Qingning didn't seem disgusted, but just responded with a smile until the old woman walked away. Then he packed up his things and prepared to go home early.

I bought some pork shoulder and paired it with the tender green leeks grown at home, planning to make a delicious meal of leek dumplings.

By the way, I bought some soy sauce, vinegar and other things, and finally got some cloth.

Summer is coming, so prepare your summer clothes early.

When they got home, without even taking a break, Zhuang Qingning kneaded the dough to keep himself awake, and then began to chop the meat. Zhuang Qingsui went to cut some leeks from the yard and squatted at the kitchen door to pick them.

"If you ask me, the leeks from our family are still the best." Zhuang Qingsui carefully pinched off the dead leaves of the leeks and said, "The leeks I had in town this morning were so disgusting."

Zhuang Qingning couldn't help but raise the corners of his lips.

This is leek that has been watered with vegetable growth liquid, so the taste is certainly different.

“Then you can eat more later.” Zhuang Qingning gathered the almost chopped meat together, added various ingredients such as chopped ginger and garlic, put them in a porcelain bowl, and stirred them evenly.

"That's for sure." Zhuang Qingsui raised his little chin which had grown some flesh.

Zhuang Qingning smiled with her eyes curved as she helped to pick and wash the leeks, chop them into small pieces and mix them evenly with the minced meat.

When the filling is ready and the dough has almost risen, roll it into long strips and cut it into small pieces. Use a small rolling pin with pointed ends to roll it into dumpling skins that are thin on the outside and thick on the inside.

Zhuang Qingsui brought a small stool and sat aside to make dumplings.

After all the dumplings are wrapped, boil the water in the pot and put half of the dumplings in first. When they are cooked, take them out and put them in two different plates.

"Qingsui, send this to Aunt He's house, and I'll send this plate to Aunt Wen."

"Okay." Zhuang Qingsui washed his hands, covered the plate with a cage cloth, and carried it to He's house.

Zhuang Qingning walked towards Wen's house.

Zhuang Qingning came back early today and worked very hard. Even though he spent some effort making the dumplings, it was just time for dinner. Almost every household had just started cooking. In some homes, people had just returned from the fields and had not started cooking yet.

At this moment, Wen was selecting some green vegetables grown in the fields at home, planning to make some noodle soup for lunch.

"Auntie Wen." Zhuang Qingning walked straight into the yard. "Qingsui and I made some dumplings at noon. We'll bring you a plate. You can try them and see if they taste good."

"Leave it there." Wen patted the dirt off her hands as she spoke. "You didn't tell me earlier that you were going to make dumplings, so I had to go to the fields to cut some vegetables. I can't eat them at noon, and they're all dry by the evening."

Mrs. Wen always spoke like this, and Zhuang Qingning was already used to it. He didn't say anything at this moment, but just took the dumplings to the kitchen, found a clean plate to put them on, and then took a big bowl to cover it to prevent it from getting cold.

"Remember to eat it while it's hot. It won't taste good if it's cold." Zhuang Qingning washed the dishes and walked out of the kitchen: "I'm leaving first."

After saying that, he raised his foot and walked out.

"That's right."

While washing her hands, Wen said, "When I woke up this morning, I saw Song standing outside the tofu shop for a long time."

Song's Tofu Shop?

Zhuang Qingning stopped and the curve of his lips dropped slightly.

"Dogs love to smell. If the meat at home is too fragrant, it is inevitable that it will easily attract dogs. This is not a terrible thing, but if you look like a bun, then don't blame the dog for always following you."

Mrs. Wen had her eyelids drooped and didn't even raise her head.

"I see." Zhuang Qingning blinked and raised the corners of his lips again: "Thank you, Auntie Wen, for reminding me."

"No, I don't have the kindness to think about others."

Mrs. Wen snorted, "But if you get bitten by a dog and can't rent this tofu shop, where can I find someone to collect the rent?"

"Yes, Aunt Wen is absolutely right."

Fortunately, he has a sharp tongue but a soft heart, and he will never admit it even if you beat him.

Zhuang Qingning smiled with her eyes curved as she came out of Wen's house and walked back.

When I got home, Zhuang Qingsui had already returned from He's house with a plate of bean sprouts in her hands.

Mung bean sprouts.
