Chapter 26 The Uncle Driving the Coach
"It's not a big deal. I just think that what was originally a good thing was messed up by someone." Zhuang Qingsui lowered his head and twisted his sleeves with his hands.
"Oh, I thought something was wrong with you, but it turned out to be because of this?" Zhuang Qingning laughed, "We are going to find a restaurant to sell tofu, and we are also trying to sell it. If it works, everyone will be happy. If it doesn't, we don't have to worry about selling our tofu on weekdays, right?"
"Nothing is certain to succeed, nor is it certain to fail. It's hard to say, and everything has a process. You have to try. Don't people always say that when things get dark in the east, they get bright in the west? There will always be things that don't go as planned, but there will always be times when things go as planned."
"We have just started selling tofu, don't we expect everything to go smoothly? There is still a long way to go, so we just need to take things slow."
While Zhuang Qingning was talking, he patted Zhuang Qingsui's head again: "Your head is not big, but you usually have a lot of thoughts in your mind."
"You don't have to worry about these things from now on. I'm your sister and I'll take care of everything. Just follow me and enjoy your life from now on."
After listening to Zhuang Qingning's words, Zhuang Qingsui understood the truth behind it. He just nodded and smiled a little embarrassedly: "I understand."
"Okay, let's sell our tofu quickly."
I have just been talking about the waiter at Fushunlou, and he has not been doing a good job of attracting customers. Now if I don't shout about food tasting or something, no one will come over here.
Upon seeing this, Zhuang Qingsui hurriedly started shouting at the top of his voice.
"Tofu, one cent per pound, try it before you buy..."
On the street, the two sisters' crisp and slightly childish voices were heard again.
We had an argument today, which delayed us for some time. By the time the tofu was sold out, it was half an hour later than usual, but it was still sold out completely.
"If I go back to make lunch now, it might be too late. Let's go to the street and see if there's anything to eat and buy some."
Zhuang Qingning said as he packed up the bamboo basket and cage cloth.
"Okay..." Zhuang Qingsui nodded: "If not, then let's eat buns."
On the first day when she came to the town to sell tofu, Zhuang Qingning took her to eat meat buns. The buns had thin skin and large fillings, and were juicy and fragrant. Now that her stomach was empty, she was craving for some.
"Okay, let's eat meat buns." Zhuang Qingning smiled with curved eyebrows.
"Excuse me, please give way..."
An ox cart was speeding along the street, with the whip cracking to urge the ox to move faster, and at the same time reminding people to get out of the way in time, attracting people coming and going, and even people setting up stalls on the roadside came to take a look, and they were all muttering.
"How big a matter must this be that you're in such a hurry to get the car?"
"Who knows? Look at the dirt flying so high. It has covered my vegetables with dirt. Besides, the cart is driving so fast and there are so many people coming and going. What if it hits someone?"
"Who says it's not..."
The people around were talking about it, and Zhuang Qingning and Zhuang Qingsui, who were packing the baskets and cage cloths, speeded up their movements.
I was afraid that if I was slow to clean up, the bamboo basket and cage cloth would get dirty.
But before the two of them could finish packing, the ox cart came speeding over. The driver pulled the rope in his hand, and with a "whoosh", the ox cart stopped right in front of them.
"Tofu, do you have any more?" The person who got off the car was panting and speaking incoherently.
"I'm sorry, the tofu is sold out today. If you want to buy some, please come early tomorrow..." Before Zhuang Qingning finished speaking, he immediately realized, "You are..."
"The uncle who drove the ox cart and took us to town two days ago?"
Seeing that Zhuang Qingning still remembered him, Bai San grinned and said, "You have a good memory. It's me."
After saying this, he wiped the sweat beads on his forehead due to his hurry to drive the cart, and said, "Didn't you give me a piece of tofu as the fare when you took my cart two days ago? I took the tofu and made a stew for everyone at noon that day, and everyone said it was delicious."
"I didn't think much of it at the time. We had worked all morning and were very hungry. The next day, the cook went out and bought a piece of tofu to cook. Everyone said it wasn't as delicious as your tofu and insisted on eating your tofu again."
"This has been bothering me for two days. Yesterday I couldn't stand it anymore, so I came out to find out where you guys were selling tofu. But I came too late, and someone nearby said you had already closed up, so I decided to come early this morning."
"I was so busy this morning that I didn't pay attention to this. At noon, when it was time to cook, they urged me to get up again, so I hurried over here, but I still missed it..."
Bai San scratched his head in annoyance, and then asked, "When will you set up your stall tomorrow so I can buy it early in the morning?"
"I'm almost here after breakfast in the morning. How many pounds do you want? I'll reserve some for you in advance." Zhuang Qingning said with a smile.
"Let's have 7 or 8 kilograms." Bai San said, "We'll have a big pot of food for lunch, so we'll need 3 or 4 kilograms. We can fry the rest at night, or deep-fry it into tofu slices and cut it into shreds to make a cold dish. It's hot now, and everyone likes to eat some cold dishes. They're refreshing and go well with rice."
"That's the case. I'll save it for you in advance and you can come earlier to get it. If you don't come by noon, I won't save it for you." Zhuang Qingning giggled and joked.
"Okay." Bai San agreed readily.
The fact that they are willing to keep it for you shows that they have some kindness towards you, so you certainly shouldn’t delay their business.
"If I can't come here, let someone else come. My surname is Bai, and my name is Bai San. Whoever comes back can tell me my name. Just remember to sell it to them." Bai San instructed.
"Okay, I've got it in mind, don't worry, Uncle Bai."
Zhuang Qingning rolled his eyes as he spoke: "In the future, if you have a large group of people and use a lot of tofu, just let me know in advance. I'll grind more tofu, so that neither side will be delayed."
He wanted to tentatively ask the other party what he did and whether he could sell more tofu in the future. However, he was afraid that if he said too much, it would seem like he was prying into other people's privacy, so Zhuang Qingning spoke more tactfully.
If the other party takes the initiative to speak, then that's naturally good. If not, she won't ask any further questions and won't hurt his face.
"That's great." Bai San laughed. "If there are more people coming back, and they want to buy more, I'll let you know in advance, and you can prepare more."
"Okay." Seeing that the other party didn't say anything, Zhuang Qingning didn't think much about it and just responded with a smile.
There was no way to buy tofu today, so Bai San had no choice but to exchange a few words with Zhuang Qingning, pay half of the deposit, three cents, and then drive the ox cart back.
Zhuang Qingning packed up the basket and took Zhuang Qingsui to eat buns.
