Chapter 232 Freshman Registration

Chapter 232 Freshman Registration

Hearing Zhang Yueran's clearly hesitant words, Nan Zhiyi was initially surprised. Soon, she had a sudden realization and glanced at Gu Xiao beside her. She understood that this girl was probably a little afraid of Fifth Brother.

She stopped asking about accommodation: "Okay, then we'll see what the school's specific situation is when we register for the new semester." As they spent more time together, Yueyue naturally realized that Fifth Brother was easy to get along with.

That night, Aunt Feng and Yue Ran slept in the guest room downstairs.

After washing up, only a dim bedside lamp was lit in the bedroom. Gu Xiao held Nan Zhiyi in his arms, gently stroking her arm with his hand.

"I have a lot of training to do these days and can't get away," he said in a low voice. "I've asked Xiao Liu to come with you for the next few days, so it'll be convenient for her to use the car. If you want to take them anywhere, or have a nice meal, just go ahead and let Xiao Liu pick them up and arrange it."

Nan Zhiyi found a comfortable position in his arms and nodded, "Okay. I was thinking, tomorrow we'll take them to Tiananmen Square first, then to the Forbidden City. If we want to go to the Great Wall, that's fine too... Aunt Feng would definitely like those places. As for food... how about we check out the Wangfujing Department Store area? Or maybe we could have hot pot?"

She asked for his opinion.

Gu Xiao closed his eyes and said in a low voice, "Whatever you like. You can make the arrangements. Be careful and don't overexert yourself. Bring enough money and tickets. Have some fun with them; you haven't relaxed like this in a long time."

"Okay, I understand."

The two chatted quietly about some trivial matters, and Nan Zhiyi gradually became sleepy.

In her daze, she remembered Aunt Feng's bold questions that afternoon, and her cheeks involuntarily began to burn. She subconsciously buried her face deeper into his arms.

Gu Xiao keenly noticed the changes in her body temperature and subtle movements. Looking down in the dim light, he saw that her ears and neck were flushed with a faint pink hue.

He reached out and touched her forehead. It was slightly warm to the touch, and he couldn't help but feel a little worried. "What's wrong? Your face is so red. Are you feeling unwell?"

Nan Zhiyi was extremely embarrassed. Afraid that he would ask more questions, she quickly got up, reached over him, and turned off the bedside lamp switch with a "snap," plunging the room into darkness.

"N-nothing! Go to sleep!" Her voice was muffled as it fell back into the blankets.

Gu Xiao silently curled the corners of his lips in the darkness. Although he didn't understand why, he could sense her embarrassment, so he didn't ask any more questions. He simply pulled her back into his arms and hugged her tightly. "Okay, go to sleep."

Over the next two days, Nan Zhiyi took Aunt Feng and Yue Ran sightseeing in Beijing.

They brought their cameras specifically to take lots of photos as souvenirs.

Zhang Yueran was most interested in cameras and volunteered to be the photographer, constantly snapping pictures of Xiaoman, who was bundled up like a little penguin.

In the capital city at the turn of February and March, the spring breeze was already blowing, but it still carried a biting chill, but this did not dampen everyone's spirits in the slightest.

The smiling faces of the group were captured in many photos.

On the day she went to register at Peking University, Zhang Yueran kept her camera with her at all times.

At the school gate, she first took individual photos of her mother and Nan Zhiyi in front of the plaque at the university gate, and then asked Xiao Liu to help take a group photo of the three of them.

After all the photos were taken, the group followed the flow of people into the school gate.

As soon as she entered the campus, Zhang Yueran couldn't help but exclaim, "Wow, sis, this school is huge!"

Looking around, the ancient buildings, wide roads, and bustling crowds exude the solemnity and vitality of a higher education institution.

Not far from the entrance, there was a welcome area with several tables pushed together and a red banner that read "New Student Registration Area". Several male and female students wearing red armbands, who looked like upperclassmen, were busy guiding new students and their parents and answering their questions.

As Nan Zhiyi and Zhang Yueran approached the welcome area, a friendly senior student with braided hair immediately stepped forward: "Hello, are you new students here to register? Which department are you in? Do you need any help?"

Nan Zhiyi explained that the two were freshmen in the Chinese Literature Department and the Radio Electronics Department, respectively.

The senior student enthusiastically pointed inside: "The registration point for the Chinese Department is over in the Humanities Building, and the registration point for the Radio Engineering Department is in the new teaching building over there. There are signs for both. Do you need me to take you there?"

Nan Zhiyi smiled and thanked her, "Thank you, senior. We'll look for it ourselves, no need to trouble you."

Upon arriving at the registration point in the Arts and Humanities Building and completing the basic enrollment procedures, Nan Zhiyi asked the teacher in charge of registration, "Hello teacher, I would like to apply to be a day student. What procedures do I need to complete?"

The teacher adjusted his glasses and pointed to an office next door: "To apply for day student status, go over there and find the department's administrative staff to fill out an application form. You need to specify the detailed reasons and your home address."

Nan Zhiyi thanked him and went to fill out the application form.

The staff member in charge of the approval was a middle-aged teacher. After taking the form and glancing at it, she said kindly, "Nan Zhiyi, we understand your situation. The application needs to be registered and cannot be approved on the spot. It usually takes two to three working days. These three days are the registration days, so it should be approved before the official start of the semester."

Nan Zhiyi said, "Okay, thank you. I'll come back in a couple of days to pick up the notification."

After leaving the Arts and History Building, the three went to the wireless telegraph office.

This was Zhang Yueran's first time independently arriving in such a vast new environment, and she was filled with curiosity and a desire to explore.

She wasn't so opposed to living in the dorms, and even harbored a slight longing for the legendary communal life at university.

When Nan Zhiyi asked her if she wanted to apply to be a day student as well, she quickly waved her hand: "Sister, I won't apply yet! I want to go to the dorm first! Maybe it'll be fun!"

She imagined the lively scene of living with people her own age.

Aunt Feng also said, "Staying in the dormitory is a good way to experience communal living."

Nan Zhiyi couldn't force the issue, so she could only say, "Okay, we'll talk about it when you want to go back to T's house."

After completing Zhang Yueran's registration procedures, the staff handed her a slip of paper printed with dormitory assignment information, including her department, name, and the dormitory building and room number assigned to her.

"Student, take this slip to the dormitory manager's office on the first floor of the dormitory building, register with the teacher on duty, and you can get your dormitory key," the staff member instructed.

Following the directions, the three found Zhang Yueran's dormitory building.

It was an old-looking red brick building with a sign that read "Girls' Dormitory" hanging at the entrance.

I successfully received the key from the dormitory manager's office on the first floor.

Nan Zhiyi and Aunt Feng then had Xiao Liu drive to the post office near Peking University to retrieve the two heavy packages that Aunt Feng had sent. Inside were thick quilts and some daily necessities prepared for Zhang Yueran.

The group then returned to the dormitory building in a grand procession.
