Chapter 82 Sweet Fragrance
Gu Xiao left the study, went up the stairs, and returned to his bedroom.
The sound of Nan Zhiyi humming a tune came from the bathroom, along with the soft splashing of water, and a faint scent of her sweet fragrance seemed to linger in the air.
He paused for a second on the bathroom doorknob, then gently turned it and went inside.
Nan Zhi was startled when she saw him come in. She hid in the water, her face flushed, and stammered, "Gu Xiao...you're doing this again..."
Gu Xiao stared intently at her, slowly and methodically unbuttoning his shirt, one button at a time…
She swallowed hard, wanting to look but not daring to, her whole body heating up.
As the night deepened, from the bathroom to the windowsill, all of Nan Zhiyi's shyness and soft moans were swallowed up by his burning lips and tongue.
In this "home" that she wasn't entirely familiar with, she dared not be unrestrained or loud; she could only sob and plead softly, being drawn into his vortex of desire time and time again until she was exhausted and fell into a deep sleep.
When I opened my eyes again, the sun was already high in the sky.
Nan Zhiyi shifted slightly, and the large hand that was holding her moved upwards and squeezed it.
Gu Xiao was still there, propping his head up and looking at her with deep, languid eyes, as if he had just finished eating.
Nan Zhiyi was so embarrassed by his kneading that she couldn't speak, and she pushed his chest with her elbow.
Gu Xiao chuckled softly, then wrapped his long arm around her and easily pulled her into his embrace.
Skin to skin.
Nan Zhiyi sensed the change in his body and froze instantly, afraid to move. She pleaded softly, "Brother, not here..."
Gu Xiao nuzzled against her neck and said, "Your moans aren't as sweet as they were last night."
Nan Zhiyi glared at him, feeling both embarrassed and annoyed.
Without a word, Gu Xiao seized her lips and sucked on them relentlessly until she was breathless, yet he was still not satisfied…
Commander Gu goes to work during the day, so only Nan Zhiyi and Gu Xiao are at lunchtime.
After dinner, Gu Xiao changed into casual clothes. "I'm going out to run some errands. I'll be back later."
Okay. Be careful on the road.
Nan Zhiyi stayed alone in the Gu family's small building, thinking about Zhou Anping, but also worried about her sensitive identity, afraid that she would meet someone she shouldn't and cause gossip for the Gu family.
She stayed in Gu Xiao's room, guarding the window, gazing longingly at the Zhou family's courtyard across the street.
As the sun began to set, Zhou Anping finally appeared downstairs riding his bicycle.
Nan Zhiyi's eyes lit up, and she immediately called over the maid: "Aunt Wu, could you please go downstairs and call Comrade Anping over? Tell her I'm looking for her."
Before long, Zhou Anping rushed in, his face beaming with joy: "You understand!"
Nan Zhiyi pulled her quickly into the bedroom, closed the door, and asked anxiously, "Anping, how are you? Is everything... alright at home?"
Zhou Anping's smile vanished instantly, replaced by anger and resentment: "What's so good about it! My mom suddenly said this morning that my brother is getting married!"
Nan Zhiyi's heart sank, but she maintained a calm expression: "Marriage? With whom?"
"My God!! With Lu Linlang!!"
Zhou Anping stomped his feet in anger.
"Zhiyi, you know her too! She's incredibly arrogant, with her head held high! She only pretends to be virtuous and sensible in front of the elders! She keeps staring at Fifth Brother, but he ignores her. I think she's gone mad!"
I really don't know what my brother was thinking, how could he marry her? It's so annoying! I don't want her to be my sister-in-law!
She launched into a tirade of complaints, clearly unaware of the truth.
Nan Zhiyi felt a lump in her throat as she looked at her indignant expression.
Zhou's parents and Zhou Zhengping chose to keep it from her because they were afraid she would act impulsively and do something wrong, and also to protect her.
If he were to reveal Lu Linlang's despicable scheme now, what would he change besides making Anping even angrier and more disgusted with Lu Linlang, and making the Zhou family even more embarrassed? It would only add to his troubles.
She suppressed the bitterness in her heart, put her arm around Zhou Anping's shoulder, and gently comforted him, "Maybe...maybe things will get better as we get to know each other? Your brother...he's had a tough time too."
"What a load of rubbish!" Zhou Anping even swore, showing how angry she was. "I just don't like her!"
Nan Zhiyi coaxed her a few more times.
Seeing that she had calmed down, he asked, "Has the date been set? Getting married so soon?"
"It's settled! My brother will be back tomorrow, we'll get our marriage certificate the morning after tomorrow, and have the wedding banquet the afternoon!"
Zhou Anping also felt it was too hasty. "My mother made the decision in a whirlwind, and no one could persuade her otherwise."
Nan Zhiyi's heart skipped a beat.
They acted really fast. Were they afraid that things might get complicated if they waited too long, and wanted to make the situation completely irreversible?
"So fast..."
“Yeah! I’m not mentally prepared yet…” Zhou Anping muttered.
She continued to complain for a while, and Nan Zhiyi quickly tried to cheer her up by taking out the gift she had brought for her.
It wasn't until just before dinner that Zhou Anping reluctantly left, holding the gift, saying he would come back to talk to Nan Zhiyi after work the next day.
After seeing Zhou Anping off, Nan Zhiyi's mind became even more chaotic.
It went on until late at night.
Nan Zhiyi was wide awake and tossed and turned.
Gu Xiao pulled her closer to him: "Can't sleep?"
Her body stiffened slightly. "I can sleep, I'll fall asleep right away..."
"No, you can't sleep," Gu Xiao said, giving his hand a quick massage. "Come on, let's get some exercise. When you're tired, you'll sleep better."
His matter-of-fact tone instantly made Nan Zhiyi feel embarrassed and angry. Just as she was about to retort, his lips were firmly sealed with hers.
All thoughts were shattered, leaving only rapid breathing and a gradually rising temperature.
When she woke up, Gu Xiao had already left, leaving her a note saying he would definitely be home before dinner.
Nan Zhiyi went downstairs, and only Wu Ma was home.
Upon seeing her, Aunt Wu immediately served her a breakfast that had been kept warm, saying, "Have something to eat first, then it'll be lunchtime."
"Okay, thank you, Aunt Wu."
Nan Zhiyi blushed slightly for some reason; she had overslept again.
After dinner, she stayed in her bedroom alone reading, but her thoughts kept drifting out the window.
In the afternoon, there was a commotion outside.
Nan Zhiyi walked to the window and lifted a corner of the curtain.
Zhou Zhengping is back, but he is not alone.
Following behind were Lu Linlang, a middle-aged couple, and several young men and women from the Lu family. The group entered the Zhou family's gate in a grand procession.
Nan Zhiyi glanced at Zhou Zhengping.
He walked ahead, his profile calm... more like... resignation.
The Zhou family's small building was unusually lively all afternoon.
By evening, Gu Xiao had returned. He was sitting at his desk working on documents, while Nan Zhiyi was lying on the sofa reading.
Hearing a noise downstairs, she drew back the curtains to look.
The large group of Lu family members filed out, and Song Lanxin, beaming, saw them off at the door. Her cheerful greetings, filled with satisfaction, could be clearly heard from afar.
"Dean Lu, please take care! I like Linlang more and more the more I look at her!"
"Mother-in-law, you're too kind! From now on, we're family!"
"Yes, yes, we're family!..."
Nan Zhiyi leaned against the window and sighed again.
The marriage is a done deal, there's no turning back.
