Chapter 210 Oath

Chapter 210 Oath

Looking at this thoughtful service, Zhou Anping couldn't help but glance at the price tag again.

"Fifth Brother, aren't you afraid of bumping or scratching yourself while training with such an expensive watch?"

"A good watch is like a good soldier," Nan Zhiyi said with a smile, "only by withstanding trials and tribulations can it be worthy of honor."

She took Zhou Anping's arm and walked out of the store.

When the two sisters squeezed onto the bus, there were many passengers around them.

Zhou Anping tensed up and carefully protected Nan Zhiyi's handbag, saying, "Don't let the things get crushed."

Nan Zhiyi smiled at her through her scarf, "Thank you for making things peaceful..."

The two sisters parted ways at the intersection of the residential compound's apartment building. Nan Zhiyi arrived home after 3 p.m.

When Sister Zhang saw her return, she smiled and said, "Xiaoman just woke up and drank pear juice."

Nan Zhiyi kissed her son's soft cheek: "Son, Mommy is going to wash my hands, then I'll come and play with you."

Once upstairs, she first hid the gold pen in her desk drawer, and wrapped the ring box and watch in old yarn and placed them deep inside the wardrobe.

She planned to leave Xiaoman with Sister Zhang temporarily while Gu Xiao had a day off on Sunday, and then go out with Gu Xiao.

I woke up a little earlier that morning and put the gold pen in his uniform pocket first. When he found it, I took out the ring and watch... That would surely move him.

Then, after watching a movie in the morning, she went to the Xinqiao Hotel for a Russian lunch... She thought the plan was perfect.

As dusk deepened, the sound of a Jeep engine came from outside. Nan Zhiyi checked the place where the gifts were hidden before taking Xiaoman downstairs.

Gu Xiao entered the room, bringing with him a chill, his military cap still covered in unmelted snowflakes.

She smiled and asked, "So early today?"

He took off his gloves and ruffled her hair: "The operations department is cleaning up for the New Year, so they're letting us out early."

His gaze swept over her flushed cheeks. "Did you sneak a candy? You're smiling so sweetly."

Xiaoman babbled in her mother's arms, wanting her father to hold her.

Nan Zhiyi used the act of handing over the child to avoid his gaze, but her heart felt like it was pounding with a fluttering sparrow.

On Gu Xiao's day off, Nan Zhiyi woke up exceptionally early; she had something on her mind.

As soon as Nan Zhiyi moved, Gu Xiao's arm tightened instinctively. He was always alert when he slept, especially when she was beside him. He could always detect even the slightest movement from her.

Feeling the person in his arms gently break free, he closed his eyes and pretended to be asleep, but a question arose in his mind: Last night he clearly tormented her until the early hours of the morning, and only stopped when he heard her begging for mercy with a sob in her voice. How come she woke up at dawn?

Could it be... that my training intensity has been too high lately, and my stamina can't keep up?

As he was lost in thought, he heard a soft click on the wardrobe door and the drawer being carefully pulled open.

He squinted and saw Nan Zhiyi stuffing a pen-shaped object into his military uniform pocket and hiding two velvet boxes under his pillow.

As soon as she tiptoed back into his arms, he immediately pulled her close and smiled where she couldn't see.

It seems his good wife has prepared an amazing surprise for him today.

When Nan Zhiyi woke up again, she found Gu Xiao propping his head up and looking at her. The collar of his pajamas was loose and open, revealing the red marks on his collarbone that she had bitten in the heat of the night before.

"Awake?" He raised his hand to stroke her cheek. "Sister Zhang took Xiaoman to the service center."

Nan Zhiyi's heart skipped a beat. Her fingers quietly reached under the pillow and touched the velvet box, which put her at ease.

She wondered how to subtly suggest that Gu Xiao get dressed.

Gu Xiao rolled over and pinned her down: "You snuck up this morning? Was it because last night... I wasn't energetic enough? Hmm?"

She blushed and pushed him away, but he grabbed her wrist and pulled her to the buttons of her pajamas.

"No way! Didn't you promise last night that you'd take me to the movies this morning?"

"We can watch the movie this afternoon too." Gu Xiao leaned down and nuzzled her neck with his nose. "Mrs. Gu smells especially good today..."

His warm lips moved up along his collarbone, a clear sign that he was about to cause trouble again.

She hurriedly pushed against his chest: "Wait! Let's... let's change our clothes first!"

"What's the rush?" He deliberately misinterpreted her meaning, his fingers deftly unbuttoning her pajamas. "Shall I help you change?"

Nan Zhiyi covered his eyes: "You should change it yourself!"

Gu Xiao then smiled and got up, slowly walking to the wardrobe.

The military uniform was hanging neatly. When his fingers brushed against the collar, he indeed touched something hard. He took it out and saw that it was a Parker gold pen with "Xiao 1977" engraved on the inside of the cap.

"This is..." He raised an eyebrow, feigning surprise, but his eyes were full of amusement. "Mrs. Gu has struck it rich?"

Nan Zhiyi knelt on the bed, her eyes sparkling: "There's more, look."

She pulled two velvet boxes from under her pillow. She opened the rectangular one first, and on the black velvet lay a Rolex Datejust watch, its dial shimmering with a warm luster in the morning light. "Editor Lin helped me exchange these foreign exchange certificates... You'll need to adjust the strap yourself."

She added quietly, "The warranty card and tools are in the box."

Gu Xiao's breath hitched.

Not only because of the watch's value, but also because of the invaluable sentiment behind it…

"Aren't you stupid?" His voice tightened. "Have you spent all the copyright fees?"

Nan Zhiyi just smiled and opened another box.

Two plain gold rings lay side by side, their inner bands engraved with each other's initials: "Even though you can't wear them often, they can serve as a keepsake..."

The next second, she was held tightly in a hug.

Gu Xiao buried his face in the crook of her neck, his hot breath burning her skin: "Thank you, wife..."

After a long while, he finally let her go.

"Comrade Nan Zhiyi." He solemnly took out a ring engraved with "G&N" and slipped it onto her ring finger. "Thank you for choosing me as your revolutionary comrade."

She chuckled, but tears welled in her eyes. Mimicking his tone, she held up another ring: "Comrade Gu Xiao, please continue to maintain your excellent conduct..."

Gu Xiao held her hand, lowered his head and kissed the ring on her finger, "I swear by the military flag, and by the red star, that I will be loyal to you for life, as loyal as a bullet to its barrel."

His kiss was like a brand, imprinted on the softest part of my heart.

She gazed at their clasped hands; his knuckles were rough and strong, while hers were more slender, yet both wore gold rings symbolizing their vows.

"What nonsense are you talking about..." she choked up, "Who would use a bullet as a metaphor..."

He chuckled softly and kissed the back of her hand: "Then let's try something else. Like the stars, loyal to the universe; like all things, loyal to time. Either way, I'm doomed for you in this life."

Nan Zhiyi then smiled and threw herself into his arms.

He gently stroked her back with his fingertips, his eyes darkening: "We won't go out this morning...we'll treat Mrs. Gu well."

He bent down to find her lips, but she dodged him.

"You're treating yourself!" she said, blushing as she pushed against his chest. "Your legs are still sore..."

He buried his face in her neck and chuckled, his hot breath making her tremble slightly.

"Then I'll serve you..." he said, actually kneeling up, lifting her legs with his hands, and kneading them with moderate force.
