Chapter 37 Wan'er's Thoughts

When they went around to the front yard, Yu Wan'er had not returned yet. The yard was quiet and no one was there. Ye Jinyun asked Qing'er to take the herbs they had dug and deal with them quietly, and he hurried back to his room to change his clothes.

She had just changed her clothes and Qing'er had already cleaned out the herbs. She was taking them to her room. Ye Jinyun stepped forward to take the processed herbs and handed the clothes she had just changed to Qing'er to wash.

Ye Jinyun put the herbs on the table first, then went to the inner room and took out the instruments for preparing medicinal materials that she brought from the palace. After putting them on the table, she began to put the washed and dried herbs in to grind out the juice.

She had started using this device when she was still in Ye Mansion to make medicinal powder. Later, when she entered the palace, she brought it in with her. She told the palace maid who was examining her that she often got rashes on her body, so she needed to use this to grind some aloe vera juice and apply it on the body. The palace maid agreed to let her bring it in.

Anyway, this is not a prohibited item. Although it is an instrument for grinding medicine and looks a bit strange, after the palace servants accepted the silver she stuffed in, there was nothing to stop them.

This time, when she packed her luggage for the villa, she specially packed it together so that she could prepare the medicine powder when she was outside the palace and bring it into the palace.

As the herbs were put in and began to be ground into juice, a unique bitter smell of herbs slowly emanated from the room. When the juice was almost out, Ye Jinyun took a clean bottle, put all the ground juice into it, then put a stopper in it and put it away in his room.

She placed them in a very hidden place, and as long as no one came to search her house, these things would never be discovered.

She was very sure that no one would pay special attention to the house of a person like her who had never had much presence, so she was not worried about it.

After grinding and bottling all the herbs she had dug today, she gave the grinding container to Qing'er, washed it, and put it back to its original place. She then cleaned up the table and the remaining residue. Only after finishing all this did she sit down to rest.

He had just poured himself a cup of tea and before he could put it in his mouth, he heard Yu Wan'er coming back. Ye Jinyun hurriedly took a sip to moisten his throat, then stood up and walked towards the yard.

As soon as he stepped out of the room, he saw Yu Wan'er walking into the yard with a distraught look on her face. There seemed to be traces of tears on her face. Ye Jinyun couldn't help but frowned and walked forward and said with concern: "Wan'er, what's wrong with you? How did you become like this?"

When Yu Wan'er heard the voice, she looked up and saw that it was Ye Jinyun who was asking. As if she could finally hold it in no longer, she threw herself into her arms and burst into tears.

Although Ye Jinyun was a little surprised by her sudden behavior, she immediately signaled her maid Xiaotao to close the courtyard door to avoid trouble if anyone heard it.

Ye Jinyun patted the slender back of the woman in his arms and comforted her gently. After noticing that the person in his arms' emotions had gradually stabilized, he slowly asked: "What's wrong with you? Can you tell Sister Ye about it?"

Yu Wan'er's eyes were red, and there was still a look of loss on her face. She was sobbing softly. After a long while, she got up from her arms and let Ye Jinyun follow her into the room.

Ye Jinyun knew that she was probably going to tell him something secret.

He told Xiaotao and Qing'er to keep an eye on the outside and pay attention to any movements, then he followed her into her room and closed the door.

Yu Wan'er was sitting on her bed, wiping her tears with a handkerchief. Seeing her like this, Ye Jinyun couldn't help but feel worried. He walked over, held her hands, squatted beside the bed, and whispered to her:

"Did you meet anyone today? You look so sad. What happened?"

"Sister Ye, have you always been curious about why I have never mentioned the emperor and never competed for his favor since I entered the palace?" Yu Wan'er wiped her tears and said in a low voice.

Ye Jinyun nodded and did not deny that she and Lin Qingtang were indeed curious about this question.

"That's because I have a childhood sweetheart. We grew up together. My parents originally planned to keep me for two more years before settling our marriage.

Who would have thought that by such an unfortunate coincidence, I had not been able to arrange the marriage in time, but instead received the Emperor's decree to select a concubine. As the only unmarried daughter in my family, I naturally had no choice but to participate in the selection.

My father couldn't bear it, so he pleaded with the Emperor not to choose me to enter the palace. However, an official in the court who had a grudge against my father deliberately spoke to the Emperor and the Empress Dowager, saying that a fortune teller had predicted that I would have many children and good fortune since I was a child. The Empress Dowager was anxious to have a successor for the Emperor at the time, so she believed the treacherous officials' slander and chose me to enter the palace.

At this point, hatred flashed in Yu Wan'er's previously pure eyes, and then she smiled bitterly and said:

"The news of my selection reached my beloved's family. He was determined to elope with me, but the whole world belongs to the king. We are both children of court officials, so where can we elope to? Not only would we not be able to spend our lives together, but it would also bring trouble to our parents and relatives. So I told him that I just wanted to enter the palace and become a favorite concubine. He gave up on that idea and let me live the rest of my life well."

At this point, Yu Wan'er burst into tears again, and then continued:

"I saw him again at the ceremony today. He was exactly the same as before, but I was no longer in his eyes. Today, I saw him chatting and laughing with another woman on the polo field, and I realized how much my heart ached. I was hiding and watching him from the side, but he never turned around and noticed me. My heart was really broken, so this is why I never mentioned the emperor's refusal to compete for favor. I have hatred in my heart, Sister Ye, wuwu..."

As she spoke, she burst into tears again. Ye Jin stood up and sat on the edge of the bed, holding her in his arms and letting her cry her heart out.

She never expected that the innocent and lovely girl she had always thought of would have so many painful and sad pasts. In the past, she had been so lively and cheerful in the palace, and she must have been suppressing her sadness by herself. Now that the scars have been revealed again, she can't control the surging emotions.

Hug her and let her cry freely. She will feel much better after venting her emotions. She had experienced this kind of heartbreak in her previous life, and she had come out of the sadness slowly in this way.

After hugging her for a while, he found that the person in his arms was no longer moving. He looked down and found that she had fallen asleep due to crying. He put her on the bed, took off her shoes, covered her with a quilt, and Ye Jinyun tiptoed out.

Looking at Xiaotao who was guarding the gate in the yard, Ye Jinyun waved her over and asked, "Do you know the important person of your master?"

Xiao Tao looked at her in surprise when she heard that, then nodded as if she had thought of something.

Ye Jinyun lowered his head and thought for a while, then said: "Take me to see him. Don't worry, your master is already asleep. I'll let Qing'er take care of her here, and everything will be fine."

Xiao Tao nodded again after hearing this, then turned around and led the way towards the polo field.

After instructing Qing'er to take good care of Yu Wan'er, Ye Jinyun hurriedly followed.
