"Yes, you are better than me." Zhong Mingwei said with a smile, putting down the big bone in his hand, taking a towel to wipe his hands, and crawling to the head of the kang.
"Where are you...hiccup...going?" Ah Chou asked hurriedly, annoyed by his incessant hiccups. He put down the big bone in his hand and said, "What do you want? I'll get it for you!"
"No. Eat your bones," Zhong Mingwei said, while reaching out to lift the lid of the pot. Immediately, the aroma of jujubes filled the room. Zhong Mingwei took out a large bowl and poured out a large bowl of orange-red jujube tea. He placed it in front of Ah Chou. "Don't choke. Drink some tea."
"When did you...hiccup...make the jujube tea?" Ah Chou looked at the bowl of steaming tea in surprise, looking unhappy. "You got off the kang again?! Hiccup!"
"Nothing. It's just a few steps. I'll go down holding the edge of the kang. Drink it quickly." Zhong Mingwei obviously didn't want to talk more about this topic.
"How come nothing happened?" Ah Chou was not giving in. He frowned and said, "What if you fell? Hiccup! The kang is so high! The ground is so hard! Could it be that your bones are harder than the ground? Hiccup!"
Ah Chou rarely dared to frown at Zhong Mingwei. But her sternness was ruined by the constant burping. She was angry and annoyed, and the burping became even more intense.
"Okay, okay, okay. Can I not get off the kang by myself next time?" Zhong Mingwei was so embarrassed that he didn't know whether to laugh or cry. He hurriedly urged her, "Hurry up and drink tea!"
Achou took the big bowl and gulped down the tea. Finally, he stopped burping. However, he could not regain the face he had lost. Achou was very upset and did not dwell on the fact that Zhong Mingwei had gotten off the kang without permission. He was angry with himself and continued to gnaw on the big bone with his head down.
After eating the big bones, Ah Chou was full. He wanted to eat some sweet and sour pork, but he really couldn't eat any more. So he sat aside and watched Zhong Mingwei chewing the bones.
"Why are you always looking at me?" Zhong Mingwei suddenly raised his head and met Achou's eyes.
"Who is looking at you?" Ah Chou was so busy that he turned his eyes away, but soon his gaze fell on Zhong Mingwei again, or to be exact, on the big bone in Zhong Mingwei's hand.
Of course, the braised bones in Ningguta cannot be compared with the big bones made in the imperial kitchen, but the taste is quite good. When Ah Chou thought about the big bones he had eaten in the palace before, he somehow started to drool.
Zhong Mingwei finished gnawing on the big bone in his hand without saying a word, then picked up the kitchen knife from the stove.
"You want..." Ah Chou was wondering, and then he saw Zhong Mingwei using the back of the knife to smash the bone in his hand. Ah Chou immediately closed his mouth, then lowered his head embarrassedly, but the corners of his mouth couldn't help but curl up.
"Eat quickly." Sure enough, Zhong Mingwei handed the smashed bone to Achou again. Inside the bone was white bone marrow.
Why is Zhong Mingwei so good?
I remember she said she liked eating bone marrow.
How come he is so good?
Ah Chou wanted to take the bone, but Zhong Mingwei didn't let him, saying, "Just eat it. You'll get your hands dirty and you'll have to go out and wash them."
"Oh." Ah Chou immediately went over obediently and sucked the bone marrow from Zhong Mingwei's hand.
Zhong Mingwei's heart softened as he watched his little girl eating the bone marrow in small bites like a good cat.
Once upon a time, he was still the high and mighty prince. He only needed to open his mouth and cartloads of pearls, jade, silk and satin would be delivered to any room in the backyard. He did not feel that he cared about those women. It was just a gift, just like he would reward sensible horses. He was not a stingy person. They were obedient and did not cause him any trouble, so he would naturally not be stingy with these gifts.
Today, he is just a commoner and a disabled person, but he has a sweetheart. He has no pearls, jades or silks, and all he can give to his sweetheart is a bowl of hot jujube tea, or maybe cracking a big bone. But this is all his heart, the first time in his life that he has given his true heart.
He thought it was cheap and shabby, but the girl didn't dislike it at all.
