Chapter 221 Spring Cleaning

Zhong Mingwei finally felt relieved, and reached out to close the window. Perhaps he had opened the window too hard. Zhong Mingwei broke off a small piece of wood from each window, and it was difficult to close it. The cold wind outside rushed in. Zhong Mingwei found a small piece of firewood and blocked the gap, and finally closed the window.

After getting dressed, Zhong Mingwei got off the kang by the edge of the bed. He lit the fire skillfully. Just then, Ah Chou came in with some water, shivering and saying he was cold. He scooped a few spoonfuls of water into the pot.

"Come and warm yourself by the fire," Zhong Mingwei felt so distressed when he saw Ah Chou's red face from the cold. He pulled Ah Chou to sit in front of him. While rubbing Ah Chou's cold hands, he frowned and said, "Why is it so cold? Don't get frostbite."

"No. I never get frostbite." Ah Chou looked proud. "When I was in the laundry department, when winter came, the other palace maids complained bitterly. It was so cold. Their hands were covered with frostbite from washing clothes, but I never got frostbite. Hehe. Am I amazing?"

What's so great about it?

Zhong Mingwei looked at those dark eyes, his heart aching. He rubbed Ah Chou's hands and said softly, "Bury a sweet potato in the stove?"

"Hehehe, Zhong Mingwei, why are you so considerate?" Ah Chou smiled with his eyes curved and kissed Zhong Mingwei's face madly.

Zhong Mingwei finally understood why Achou had to get up to clean before dawn. At this time, he watched Achou crawl under the bed, squatting and carefully sweeping the spider webs in the corner.

"Does that place need to be cleaned?" Zhong Mingwei was puzzled. "What is there to clean?"

"Of course we have to clean it well. We only do this once a year, so the cleaner it is, the better," Ah Chou continued to sweep the corner with his butt sticking out. Without turning his head, he continued to talk to Zhong Mingwei, "You just need to clean up the kang, and I'll take care of the rest."

"Oh." Zhong Mingwei responded sullenly. He really couldn't help much and inevitably felt a little uncomfortable. He didn't say anything else and turned around to fold the quilt. After folding the quilt, he folded both of their clothes neatly.

"What happened to you?" Ah Chou came out from under the bed and looked at the neatly arranged quilt and clothes on the kang. He was immediately surprised and asked, "When did you learn how to fold such a neat quilt?"

"I have always folded it very well, and you just found out?" Zhong Mingwei was a little embarrassed.

Ah Chou smiled but said nothing, which clearly showed that everything was said without words. Zhong Mingwei's face suddenly became even uglier: "Did I not fold it well before?"

"What difference does it make whether it is folded well or not? After all, you still have to spread it out to sleep at night, right?" Ah Chou kindly comforted him.

Zhong Mingwei became even more annoyed by her coaxing. He snorted and turned his head away angrily.

Ah Chou sat on the kang, intending to comfort him, but when he glanced at the window, he saw a broken corner, and immediately exclaimed: "Zhong Mingwei, you broke the window!"

Zhong Mingwei's body suddenly became shorter, and he muttered, "Just find someone to fix it. This window doesn't close tightly in the first place, it should have been fixed long ago. Why are you yelling?"

"Where can we find someone now? It will take at least until after the New Year." said Achou.

"Then let's do it after the New Year," Zhong Mingwei touched his nose, paused, turned his head to look at the spider webs on Ah Chou's hair, stretched out his hand to pull them off, and whispered, "I haven't taken a bath for a long time."

Ah Chou's face suddenly turned red, and he lowered his head and whispered, "We still have to clean up today."

"You only clean the house, but not ourselves?" Zhong Mingwei leaned over and kissed Ah Chou on the face. "You complained about the smell of sweat on me last night and refused to let me touch you."

"No way..." Ah Chou's face was red, and his voice was very low, "I smell of sweat, and I don't want to stink you..."

"That's perfect. Let's take a bath today," Zhong Mingwei said softly, smoothing Ah Chou's hair and smiling, "and sprinkle some jasmine flowers in the bathtub. Then we'll all smell good."

"That's not how you use Jasmine..." Ah Chou pushed him away, but said coyly, "Then go boil some water, and I'll clean up the house."

"Okay." Zhong Mingwei agreed readily, kissed Achou's face again, and got off the kang to boil water.
