Chapter 476 What Now?

Gu Changlin finally understood that the woman in front of him was not the unclear woman he imagined. She was Zhong Mingwei's concubine in the capital. Judging from her dress and conversation, she must be a noble lady raised by a noble family. And she really loved Zhong Mingwei deeply. Otherwise, she would not have left the rich and prosperous capital and came to this desolate and cold Ningguta with all her heart.

Gu Changlin looked at the pitiful little An in front of him, and then looked at Zhong Mingwei who had remained silent. For a moment, he didn't know what to say, and just remained tongue-tied.

He had no reason to reprimand Zhong Mingwei. He had no right to chase Xiao An away, but he felt uncomfortable. He looked at the remaining chess game on the small table. His mind was buzzing.

What will that girl do in the future?

When Mei Ya came in, Xiao An had already gotten up and was sitting on the edge of the kang, wiping her tears. Zhong Mingwei took out a handkerchief and handed it to her. When she raised her eyes, she saw Mei Ya standing at the door. Their eyes met. Zhong Mingwei looked away first, and he reached out and patted Xiao An's shoulder. He said in a deep voice, "Go and pay your respects to the Madam."

"Yes," Xiao An hurriedly stopped sobbing after hearing this. She stood up from the kang, looking at the dusty and skinny Mei Ya standing at the door in astonishment, and looked at Zhong Mingwei with some uncertainty. She whispered, "Is... is it her?"

Zhong Mingwei didn't say anything, but just nodded impatiently.

"My concubine An greets Madam," Xiao An hurried to Mei Ya and bowed respectfully. After a long while, Mei Ya did not respond. Xiao An's body was sore, so she had to bite the bullet and said, "My concubine An greets Madam."

"You go out first." Mei Ya's eyes slid from the shining white jade and red coral beads double-knotted Ruyi hairpin on Xiao An's bun, and then fell on Gu Changlin, "Sir, please go out too, I have something to say to Ming Wei."

Gu Changlin didn't say anything, just nodded and left the bedroom.

Xiao An's face was filled with fear. She knelt on the ground with a plop. She hugged Mei Ya's legs tightly and cried again: "Madam, please don't chase me away. I won't compete with you for me. As long as you don't mind, I am willing to serve you and me for the rest of my life. I really don't want to leave you. Otherwise, I... I really can't live anymore! Madam, please have mercy!"

As she spoke, Xiao An kowtowed to Meiya again. Meiya seemed not to hear or see anything. She stared at the sewing basket on the big bed without blinking. In the basket was placed Zhong Mingwei's unfinished wedding dress. It was a bright red piece and very eye-catching.

"You go out first," Zhong Mingwei spoke first. He frowned as he looked at Xiao An who was kowtowed on the ground. Seeing her loose hair, he frowned even more. "Why are you crying and making a fuss? Go wash your face."

"Yes, yes, I obey your command." Xiao An seemed to listen to Zhong Mingwei's words particularly. She hurriedly got up from the ground, picked up her skirt, and went out crying.

After Xiao An left, Zhong Mingwei turned around and looked at Mei Ya, looking at her helplessly: "Girl, are you determined to be estranged from me?"

Mei Ya looked at his normal expression, and for a moment her teeth were about to break. She tried to calm herself down, then took two steps forward, but looking at the remaining chess pieces on the small table, she did not move forward in the end. She then pulled a stool over and sat in front of Zhong Mingwei.

"When did she come to Ningguta?" Mei Ya tried her best to suppress her emotions, staring at Zhong Mingwei's face without blinking, afraid to miss any fleeting expression.

"She came here with Pang Yi. She begged the Queen Mother and risked her life to come to Ningguta." Zhong Mingwei also looked at Mei Ya, but as he looked, he looked away and lowered his head to stare at the snow-white socks on her feet. The vivid little bats on them made his nose sore. "I was afraid that you would be angry if you knew, so I let her stay in the inn and didn't dare tell you."

"What about now?" Meiya asked softly, "Why do you want me to know now?"

"I didn't want to let you know, and just wanted to send her away quietly, but she absolutely refused," Zhong Mingwei whispered. He paused here, put the chess piece he had been holding back on the table, and continued, "She heard about our marriage these days and cried a few times. I asked Pang Yi to persuade her, but it was useless. I was worried that something might happen to her, so I asked Pang Yi to bring her here."
